Well I’d say that both electricity and opportunity are both costs, and when consumed (whether to mine coins or to fuel an all-night CE session) holds no further value, except in so far as they created something else, be that enjoyment and pleasure / entertainment, or something (slightly) more tangible.
But - and please do correct me if I’m wrong, because I absolutely admit to a certain level of ignorance here - isn’t the blockchain only used to verify transactions related to Bitcoin itself, meaning there’s still no value to “the whole world” - except if you think Bitcoin is a net benefit to the world in and of itself?
The technology behind it could be (and in examples other than Bitcoin, are) put to uses other than the hyper-speculative alternative to regulated banking, but it all depends on the implementation.

First, this all comes full circle with my view of Conan’s PvP Experience. For years, I hoped and prayed, I cajoled and howled, but I couldn’t make PvP back into what it was during EA. I just couldn’t. That level of acceptance required a melding of what I wanted with the realities of what has come to pass.
If you accept Bitcoin or other popular crypto for their mission statements, you understand some of them (not all) are meant to form the basis of a decentralized, anonymous, transaction-dependent and completely secure trading environment. This is the grand idea. Unfortunately, people have for whatever reason turned it into a cash alternative, which makes completely zero sense. Buying it at this ridiculous peak without actually owning even a fraction of a coin is denying yourself access to commerce and paying the fiatmasters. It’s completely counterproductive.
As for value, the calculations and problem-solving were completely tweakable and readable due to the open source nature of the project. This established math made serious alterations to many AI creators’ Brain Volume, for instance. Kaspersky took whole days of hashing and made it into their Open Source Uncrackable Code Name that then turned into the free SSL alternative. Almost every quality Host these days offers free SSL, all thanks to this “jumping off” point.
And finally, it depends on your worldview: I took and take it as a challenge to come up with the best machine for the fewest watts. It’s been personally energizing and exciting. But again, thank you for letting me show you what it looks like on this side of the Rose Colored Glasses.

I always took everything very seriously and didn’t understand fun at all.
But thanks to everyone here who has helped me so much to understand things and others better, I’ve gotten better and better at it.

The name “crom coin” makes me cringe, so i voted for direct purchase.
If they were named atlanteand shards, mark of acclaim, dragon tear or whatever token name they had in age of conan i wouldm´t mind purchasing those.
Just be more creative with those names, it was said that the bazar was meant to be something as part of the lore, and crom coin doesn´t sound like it.
