Logged in this morning at 6:50 am on 3/13/25 and noticed I was not where I logged out and all my loot was missing. Checked logs and seen that I had died at 4:17 am just prior to server reset to hunger. But I wasn’t even in the game. Last I was in game was at 11:26 am the day prior on 3/12/25. How does one die of hunger while not in the game and while logged off?
You ever found some ones character laying on the ground where they logged out? Some one walks by in render range your character renders in.
Ya, it’s an untested theory, but I know you can die to sand storms while logged out if you log out in the open.
Simply read the server settings. You can die while offline unless the admin has changed the. Settings to character doesn’t remain in world when logged out.
I get dying if out in the open and someone kills you while off line, but I was locked inside my base and died to “hunger”.
Yes but thirst and hunger will kill you as well because your character is still in the world. Always check your levels. I have had this happen before so I always read server settings now.
Nah, something doesn’t quite add up there. I can understand if you logged off while your character was already really low on food or water. If I were designing the game, I might have those carry on for say, five minutes or something after the player logs out. But then after five minutes with no input from the player’s client, freeze them at their current level. Leave the body and vulnerability to external forces, but food and water no longer an issue. Naturally if they run out of food or water before that five minute timer runs out, character death would occur.
But if food or water just continues to count down indefinitely, even if it’s only when another player is in render distance, we’d constantly be logging in to deceased characters.
This is mostly just speculation on my part of course, but it’s what makes sense to me as an explanation.
Yeah, I can’t imagine it actually works where hunger and thirst tick down. Decay timers on officials are…10 days? 2 weeks? If you only log in enough to refresh the timers, you’d definitely log in dead every time if hunger and thirst still were in effect. Something else is weird here.
It depends on what the servers thirst and hunger levels are set to. As long as your character remains in the world all elements will effect it even sandstorms , purges, & maelstroms.

[/quote] The OP never said what kind of server they were on.
You’re just assuming that they were on an official server. I play on unofficial servers where the admins set the levels and rules. FC doesn’t know how to properly admin their own servers and don’t have the staff to do it so they outsource to a group that also does a poor job which is why most players stay away from official servers. Zendesk is useless just read all the threads on the forums about reports and their inaction to solve the issues. Most game companies have their own CSR\GM teams which actively patrol their servers but not FC.
In 4 years of playing I have never once died of hunger/thirst while offline.
And out of that, about 3 years I’ve been logging off at the base at Sinkhole, which is a pretty busy place and I often had to be within rendering distance for other players.
For years I could even log out with food in my inventory and didn’t lose any.
I guess that changed sometime towards the end of AoS, after I lost my entire stack of food a few times I started putting it in the fridge.
As far as I remember the bodies of the other clan members were visible in the base for about 3-4 days ? Then they disappeared until they logged back into the game.
No, I wasn’t assuming the OP was on an official server. I was saying that if thirst and hunger ticked down while offline on servers with the “players remain in world when logged off” setting enabled, we likely would see more complaints of dying of these things from people on official servers since those do contain players that only log in to refresh decay timers.
I believe officials are set to 0.1 which is why they don’t drain fast but they do drain. Which still goes back to check server settings and checking your thirst and hunger levels. Not to mention the durability of your structures. BTW the reason there’s not much complaining about this is because most of us have been playing for years and it’s common sense.
