Do characters remain across servers?

I play on a private server with my wife, but every time I log in I see all these official servers and I wonder what it would be like to play with 40 players. But I’m not yet ready to restart from scratch. Can I bring my main from our game with all his Knowledge and Attributes to another server or do I have to create a new character when I get there?

You can’t transfer your character from private to official, only official to official or private, but I think it’s not possible right now

You might like to check this Character Transfer - Conan Exiles

Most likely - no you can’t!
However, if you want to go for an official - go for PvE… well who am I to judge, if you are enjoying pain then PvP and all it GRIEVERS might suit you

Has not been possible for a long time now, over a year. Will be 2 in the spring.

Every Official server is its own world, so to speak.

So yes, you must make a new character for any you join.

If you do plan on embarking on such a journey, consider your options carefully. Because they’re Official, that means anyone can join, build and are subject to the Terms of Conduct you agree to once you join the server. You can read terms ahead of time by visiting the top of the main page of the forums.

When I say to consider your options carefully I mean in respect of the type of mode you want to play: PVE, PVE-C or PVP, the region, the community and politics on a specific server. It’s usually best to start off on a low or mid populated server during primetime to get a feel for current events.

Open your map as soon as you finish creating your character. If there are 20+ religious altars, almost guaranteed the map is overpopulated with builds. But you’ll really only see this on PVE or PVE-C.

If you choose PVP perhaps it may be best to remain quiet as well.

It really depends.

This :point_up_2:.

I would suggest you to stay on your private server for awhile.
Every biome hides secrets and surprises. The only way to see all these, to learn safe paths, to visit all the poi, is to play single player or on your own server.
Then it’s performance too. Official servers are old and their performance is not so good as the one your server has.
If you learn the secrets of this game then you ‘ll be able to be lvl 60 from scratch in hours. So even if you won’t like the server nothing will stop you to jump to another. The game doesn’t stop on 60, the game starts at 60. You’ ll see. Have fun m8 :metal:.

Yh I knew that I just didn’t remember when it was disabled, plus I wasn’t sure if it still was or not since I’ve never used that function nor care about it

If you play on one of the roleplaying servers, frequently they have ways of forwarding your character progression. You can usually find access to them through one of the various modding discords of mods they typically use.

Ive never seen it get to 40 cap. At 25 players servers start to strain. At 35 players strange stuff starts happening

Ok, got it guys, thanks for the info. I don’t mind re-starting for fun, for me the journey is the reward. I’ll find a good low-pop server and stake my claim!

Probably have to put in another request to merge servers, or find out when the next one is scheduled. I’ve been through the merge, and it worked with ~240 slots.

Ask yourself, do you want to play in an MMO here, at this point?

Wait. I have mods installed and the official server that I join probably doesn’t have any. Am I going to have to uninstall my mods to play on one of those servers and then reinstall them on my dedicated server? I just thought of this problem. How does the game handle this situation?

You don’t have to uninstall. Just join any official. Any mods will not be used.

The technical side of it is it will launch with any mods are listed in the modlist.txt.

When you join a server with a different modlist (even an empty one), the game will ask you if you wish to restart the game. If you do so it will launch with the modified (or empty) modlist.

If you wish to avoid that step, you’ll want to edit the modlist.txt file manually, or use the mod list in the Launcher to match the server you wish.

I do heavily recommend keeping your current mod order saved in a note somewhere and remember to adjust to that if you go back into singleplayer. Saved games will load with any mod order or modlist thrown at them, even if it was different prior. This can have some weird interactions (such as modded building pieces disappearing).

Though in most cases items such as materials, armors, and weapons will remain even if their mod isn’t present (they’ll appear as black squares). And they’ll return to normal functionality once their dependent mod is back. Same thing with customization mods, you’ll lose any customization while the mod is gone and they’ll come back once the mod is back.
