I know… I’m just messing…
I actually did rent one of those things once, and realised I do not like male bums going up and down ad Nauseum
I would have loved saying teenage stepdaughters who want daddy…
Oh the fun to be had…

Don’t bother it’s really not that good a movie… ![]()
I’ve played AoC and CE, and will likely play at least one of the new Dune games. I’ve also encouraged several friends who are fans of that franchise to do the same. The idea that they are making bad games is a matter of opinion and not fact.
If you honestly thought they were making bad games you wouldn’t be here. You’d have moved on and forgotten about it. Instead you’re claiming to be some righteous anti-Funcom crusader, trying to make everyone else see the light like you’re some video game prophet.
You’re not. You’re some bored little dude that either had their stuff stolen or their base poofed from decay. And now bitter about losing some exceptional steel mace you found off a blackhand fighter II.
To put it shortly, and to give you the non-hyperbolic response, I don’t believe you. I don’t believe you think this is a bad game. I think you’re bitter about something. Whatever it is, I don’t really care. But like I said, you’d have peace’d out without a word if you believed the very words you said. People don’t continue to play bad games. They don’t stick around the forums for months after they quit.
As much as I want this patch Live now so I can go play on some new servers with childlike abandon, I am heartened by Funcom’s restraint. In fact, I think this phase demonstrates they are in fact quite the opposite of @Gheazu’s claim, a very good video game company. From its notes alone the patch that just rolled to TestLive does demonstrate this quality commitment.
The problem with smaller patches in a game like this is the inter connectivity of everything. Fixing a bug on something can domino an effect on something else.
Because there are so many objects that interact with each other thru damage, crafting, upgrading, decay etc. that “monster” patches are done to remove the domino effect as much as possible. Hard to really explain really. I work in coding, and if i change one line in a huge SQL (that is not even close to the scripts used in a game of this size) it can cause numerous conflicts and data issues somewhere else in the SQL. So if i update an SQL report i write for my company, i literally have to go thru the entire “thought” process of the the data stream to make sure i don’t lose or duplicate info.
Same with my home brew Tecmo football game. we make one change to an AI play design code, i have to insure that it doesn’t break another logic i have in place.
Do smaller patches in general sound great and would be preferred, yes. But sometimes they are not executable in an easier method than putting all changes together, and see how they react to each other to catch potential conflicts.
Oh hey, look who’s working on another Testlive Patch instead of working on fixing the Patch everyone else is waiting for. ![]()
Really?
You can have it done right.
You can have it done cheaply.
You can have it done fast.
^^ But you only get to pick two.
In relative terms, I think the cost of this game for each individual is relatively low priced (cheap). So the other factors are getting it done right, or getting it done fast. I vote get it done right - I can have patience for better quality. I, too, am heartened by Funcom’s decision to raise the flag internally, and put on the brakes.
I think my problem lies not in everyone’s opinions, but with the people who are constantly complaining no matter the thread. I have played the game since the announced patch. Hasn’t changed or taken any fun out of it for me. The ones that are the most vocal about wanting the patch now, and that Funcom is inadequate are jacking threads on totally different subjects. And the defenders as you asy, are just trying to counterbalance the negative “bullies”. It begs me to question whether they
(the thread jackers) will ever be happy with the state of the game, its content, etc. I don’t want players to leave and dwindle an already niche fan base, but at the same time, every thread i have seen, no matter the topic, they post something negative about the subject or about the company. Whether its opinions on PR, Game Engine, new content suggested, patches in the works, it in-inevitably turns into ones who like the game and those that can’t wait to throw a negative comment out because “they” want to seem smarter than the crowd, be able to say i told you so, or just enjoy being Debbie downer. And Crom forbid you flag their post on a thread for being off topic. then you are trying to suppress their free speech rights.
And all your points are based on a fix. Breaking them down into 8 different numbers only makes it look like more issues than the 1 patch being delayed. And I do not see it as a fix per say, but as an update that will enhance already fun game play that has some (in my case) minor bugs. to me exploits are not a bug, as no matter how many ways they try and fix them, code is always going to be exploitable. The only real fix is to go to private moderated and adminned servers. So the solution exists, whether one wants to use it in their option. I guess i am one of 1 to 4 defenders of the game (you said less than 1 hand, an i am assuming you have all your fingers). and i will remain, because i get to exist in Conans world when i need to escape real life. And Funcom gave that to me for 9+ months.
it’s a boat, isn’t it ?
Needs more knuckle definition. Which, unfortunately, would affect the scale. The illumination is a nice touch.
I have come to the realization that he just needs to go. He’s a bad fit for a customer of Funcom and they’re just a bad fit for him as a producer of goods and services. It happens sometimes. I’ve gone to fast food places in the past, had great service and take a friend there and he gets shat on, or believes they were. Either they came at a bad time, had bad luck, or their attitude simply didn’t mesh well.
He believe he was cheated. He spent 70 euros apparently (the equivalent of like $80). I paid nearly half that with all DLC’s included (no VAT helps tons). And he would be correct on most counts by what he was expecting. He wanted an indepth REH Conan Experience and instead got a Conan Themepark Survival based on the amalgamation of lore based on the books, comics, movies, and cartoon. He should have refunded the game when he had the chance. He chose to stick around to see if it would change.
It didn’t. Its released. It is what it will be. For many of us, yeah we like the sandbox themepark. We use the Conan backdrop for playing out little seiges or roleplay or whatever. He doesn’t want that. He doesn’t want to RP or Play with blocks. He wants some RPGlike game like Elderscrolls in the Hyborian Age. This isn’t that game. Age of Conan isn’t that game. That game simply doesn’t exist.
Funcom may make it, but the relationship between them and him is gone already. That boat has sailed. Best thing to do is get on the next one and ride off. There’s nothing constructive he can do. Look at his posts now? Its F- this company and F- its community. There’s nothing left but a shell of a hope and a dream. He’s gotta move on now.
At this point if he gets banned, it would be for his benefit now, more so than ours.
I so agree with everything you’ve written except for this. I’m not a fan of banhammers. I think every poster to a message board can be rehabilitated, even if they’re “put in a corner” for a while. On the Straight Dope we had a dunce’s corner for repeat offenders. They could post in there, flame each other etc. yet be unable to post anywhere else until probation ended. Called it The BBQ Pit. I think we need a Yog Pit here.
That’s just my opinion. Also, when someone says something like that, they’re personally insulting my friends which means they’re effectively absent from the thread to me. One other long-time valued poster did something like that recently but he had the courtesy to go away on his own.
As for the patch, after modest playtime it looks really juicy. I feel like Funcom said “let’s skip the paid DLC this time” and gave us something really, for lack of a better word about barbarianism, evolved.
Hahahha!! ![]()

So much Lol, Barnes. Every poster can be rehabilitated?!
I love love LOVE your optimism. But having been a moderator and admin of internet forums previously, I regret to inform you that I think you are wrong. ![]()
I do like the idea of a reduced visibility “Yog Pit” flame section. Those can be functional and amusing. However, I am not sure that would suit the goals of Funcom’s community outreach… ![]()
Not sure but certainly not us ![]()
Since, as explained before, the fix for building issues is done by one group while another group of developers is working on additional fixes and content for a different build.
I did read that, but wouldn’t it be more helpful to pull those Devs over to fixing the bug too? Working on build C whilst being on build A seems kind of obsolite from my point of view, especially if build B is not working.
Like, why would construction workers build on the third floor if the second floor isn’t even stable.
Because they’re building on the stable parts and not on the unstable parts?
Because it could be the electrical system that needs rewiring, and glazers, roofers, framers, and plumbers can’t really help fix that.
I mean i live in Texas, and state employees work the way you think Funcom should be fixing build B while fixing roads. 8 guys standing around the one guy placing the cones. Very efficient for tax payers:/
This. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
And also throwing 1,000 coders at a single problem won’t make the code work go any faster. Instead you would have 1,000 coders standing over the shoulder of the person working on the code. It’s why there is rarely more then 2 coders working on a specific feature or bug in the development world (this is in general, and basic software practice, to clarify).
@WhatMightHaveBeen actually used the analogy I was going to use as well.
Our developers have been working on different aspects and codes of the game. For example one or several coders are very competent with the climbing system while another devoper or several are very familiar with the building system. While all of them are coders/programmers that doesn’t mean they are all equally efficient to solve a specific problem. Generally the programmer(s) who have coded the mechanic in the first place are also the ones looking at issues with said code.
I hope that helps explanation wise
You never have anything positive to say do you? If you hate the game and the company that much, why do you continue to play it!? But hey, at least your trolling career is going ahead in leaps and bounds.
