Fall damage has been "nerfed" into oblivion? Why?

I was just mule kicked from the top of a tower on the edge of Sinkhole, fell all the way down into Sinkhole (100% guaranteed death before the patch), and took less than 150 damage.
I thought it must be some kindof bug, so I respawned, went back, and just jumped into Sinkhole… and took 100 damage.

Just WTF. I have no words.

Funcom please stop these stealth changes to core aspects of the game that noone ever asked you to change. You’ve basically just entirely trivialized fall damage to the point where you can Super Mario jump from the highest cliffs and not die… in a “survival game”.

I noticed a lack of fall damage recently too. I assumed it was a bug and didn’t think about them actually changing it, since there was nothing in the patch notes about it. I don’t even know what is bug and what is game anymore.

a few of us noticed this the other night.
4 of us took very low fall damage, 2 took high fall damage.
at least 1 person that took low and 1 that took high had the exact same attributes / perks :man_shrugging:

I play this fun little game where I jump off the highest thing I can find to see how much damage I can take before I die. Been doing this since my EverQuest days and this has now been ruined. My small amount of joy, gone.

People have told Funcom exactly the same years ago. They still do it. And will do it.

Its “Age of Heros” thralls flying and entering in the ground , Thanos snapping your fingers and making barkeepers vanishing , Dr strange making all barkeepers returning from oblivion , freya teaching us to make one invisible helmet and fall damage almost removed…

Wait until they bring the next age “the Age of Gods”

:joy::joy::joy::joy:

Just tested with a friend with 260 health.
He jumped into the Sinkhole and still had 3/4 of his health.

I realize that this is a video game, but it’s advertised as a survival game. There are hunger, thirst, temperature and environmental effects, sandstorms, bleed, poison… but you can Super Mario jump from Fingerfang Rock or the top of the Volcano now.
WTF?

This also makes the Slow Fall spell even less useful than it already was.

I’ve just started jumping off cliffs now while traveling as no reason not to.

I would suggest you to report it as bug. I don’t believe it’s an intentional change.

Server owner for the server I play on found out it’s tied to friendly fire multiplier settings. For whatever reason they made fall damage “friendly fire”, guess they made gravity our friend.

Are you kidding me? That would explain it for me, since I had the friendly fire damage multiplier at 0.1 from when I briefly enabled PvP on my small private server with just me and my friends, before we decided to just disable PvP.

As far as I know, the setting is irrelevant if you have PvP off. Or it was, I guess it’s the fall damage setting now! And if you want to have PvP on with low friendly fire damage, tough luck if you also want fall damage. Absurd.

I looked into this :stuck_out_tongue:

They botched a little function that determines whether you’re in the same guild as another person or not.
It’s working backwards… anyway… the result is… and this will explain all your above reports.

Players who are in a clan will take reduced fall damage, multiplied by the friendly fire multiplier…
Players who are NOT in a clan, will take full damage.

I had a feeling it was something like this.

Thank you @Xevyr. I am pretty certain that they already took the memo from you and where to find the mistake to fix it.
Sincerely thanks a million m8.

I’m sure they already knew and probably even fixed it for the next update :joy: we’re just behind them in time cuz they need to prepare stuff in advance for certification etc.
But I did message one of the devs about it just in case.
