Family Sharing and Conan Exiles - Feedback thread

I’m guessing it can’t be done by CE server setting, as it is Steam’s login. No that is most likely a non point as it wouldnt be worth the developer resources to redo.

I agree with many of your sentiments here. Constructive and respectful conversation on this thread died out quite a while ago. The sense of entitlement has been breath taking to say the least.

I still can’t believe I’ve been told I deserve less than others because I own 5 copies of the game and don’t use family share. Where is the logic in that?

I was behind the family share people at the start of this thread. Then rationale broke down into accusations of Funcom intentionally being money grabbers, demands for free copies. and even legal action was suggested.

It is obvious people on this forum are passionate about this game but the outrage and comments on this particular thread have left me shaking my head.

@MaithCara Maith, it doesn’t matter what and which argument you present to that guy.

He is, with the name calling, condescending and provoking attitude, just out to get a rise out of you, perhaps to prove his point in some weird way

Let it go

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback

No worries, but thank you! My skin is “thick!” :joy:

Gearbox did it with their Borderlands forums. DE did it with their Warframe forums and Dev Streams. Etc. It’s not as rare as some people think.

Kick and screaming doesn’t get them to make the change. It gets them to look at the arguments for making the change. It’s the attention getter.

What name calling?

I’m not expert, but I think it was the sock puppet thing. Some people here, including @Lleilwin, are admins of the highest quality. As an admin myself if I were thrown in with people accused of puppetry, I might bristle a bit too.

People shouldn’t have to fork over for a new copy of the game just to ensure a level of transparency when adminning a server. It’s what I do, but it’s wrong to force people to expend more money for these functions.

Sock puppetry mentioned as an act, not a name however. And saying that family share has enabled it is not a slur, but a self evident reality.

Also, I mean in a thread where others are accusing people who work very hard, under tight deadlines and resources, to provide them an outlet for entertainment, are being called money grabbers and con artist… Its sock puppetry that gets called name calling?

The technical use case for family share being crucial to enabling roleplay in Conan Exiles has not held up under scrutiny of the even the most superficial initial questioning. And the calls for refunds, or free game copies in its withdrawl were absurd in my estimation.

On top of this, the alt brigading on the forums regarding the topic has also not put it in the best light either.

If you are talking about my suggestion of giving the people who used family share a single additional copy of the game as an alternative to family sharing, it was not absurb in the slightest given the current state of events when it was suggested.

From my own personal experience as a forum moderator in years past, accusations of sock puppetry can harm an online identity like none other. I was piping up because it has to do with @Lleilwin with whom I have had personal dealings here, and it’s super easy to simply dispatch that as just another “epithet.” My intent was to with any luck bridge the gap between you two, because you’re not much farther apart than your choice of a phrase.

Also it helps return to civility if you can actually picture there’s meat feelings on the other end of a keyboard. I appreciate your contributions, @DethosThePict, and I don’t want them summarily branded immoderate.

For the record this is not the solution I would’ve chosen had Family Share been turned off, as it was. Rather than reversal, I would’ve offered up a free play month as a mea culpa, so that Family Share toons can rescue their hoardings, and either make other choices or pay for additional keys. But no more reversals, Funcom, solutions. You’re better than that.

I do understand there are feelings, actual flesh and blood people on the other side of a screen. Now that said, the existence of feelings in the face of facts, I do not lend much weight to. I especially can’t when I hear people describing their gaming habits in terms that present it as an addiction, not a hobby, or form of escapism taken too far for that matter. And it is even more disturbing when they themselves have demonstrated a forgetting that their are also other flesh and blood people involved beyond themselves, for whom their emotions unchecked can have consequence.

Hey everybody,

We truly appreciate the feedback you’ve shared with us over the past few days about this topic. We’ll be working on extra tools to fight back some of the uses we’re not okay with of this feature, and do it in a proper way.
As you might be aware by now, the temporary change was reverted already last week.
Since there is not much to discuss about it for the time being, we’ll proceed to unpin and close this thread as it has served its purpose.
Thanks again for your patience and support.
