Paraphrasing another poster, sometimes the works of the creators exceed the intentions of their creations and become something… else. Greater, more beautiful and even more interesting!
the argument of admin account and player account is absolutely ridiculous! if you are thre admin / server owner , creating an alt doesnt take from the fact that you are talking about the same person ! you know the admin password, you can use it at will in any account ! creating an alt doesnt make you reboot your mind does it !! totally absurd arguement!
bottom line is if you are a player admin and you are legit and not corrupted by the power and responsibly of it ! there should not be a need od alt character! again this is my opinion ! i just find that argument absolutely non sense !
Then, run your server as you see fit! On the private servers I have played on, and especially the only one I currently play on and have for a long time, it works exceptionally well! We have loads of fun, there! That is the beauty of private servers, there are many, each unique, and if you search, you will almost assuredly find one that meets most, if not all, of your expectations!
If Funcom finds a viable way to disable Family Share ONLY on “official” servers and gives private server administrators the choice, that is fine by me!
In JoshTech (among others), we trust!
I only saw that most of us presented rationale, ways we have used Family Share on private servers to more fully enjoy the game. Most of us opposing the ban on Family Share only did not want it imposed on private servers against, even the will of the owners and administrators of those servers. Let the “official” servers be what they will, Family Share or not, for most of us do not care about that.
I know you don’t have the easiest job in the world, but your listening to us and reversing this is very much appreciated.
Thank you!
Do you really believe that is true? Do you really think we’ve never listened to properly presented arguments, ever or we ignored them despite being helpful and constructive? Or less than to the ones that screamed louder? This is not a trick question as I am genuinely interested if you feel that we don’t listen or ignore constructive feedback. We constantly listen to people who give us well thought out and logical feedback. Even though it’s much less obvious to spot, that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Often.
It’s a very common thing to fall pray to the vocal minority that screams the loudest. Everyone doing the job we do is VERY aware of that fact and it’s our job to see if there is a value to the arguments or not.
The argument you bring up that we only took actions because people screamed at us can be used in any case. People always scream at us. Some people in this thread presented their perspective in a respectful manner. In most other threads there are also players who can contain their frustration and stay constructive while others voice their opinion in a less than ideal ways. Just because there are some of those people in a discussion does not automatically invalidate the presented arguments (it also does not make them more true or more pressing, mind).
We don’t endorse bullying or personal attacks and players are being warned for violating our forum rules for being disrespectful. Even in this thread (this happens in PMs however as in most cases the players involved understand that we WILL enforce our forum rules).
It definitely comes across that way if we are being honest.
I agree 100%.
The only reason i see for this process if you wanted to create unique dungeons and then run them with your friends. Build in account to make the thralls and building an “enemy” building, then switch accounts and attack it with friends (RP servers mainly).
A work around of not switching accounts would be to start a clan, build something, then recreate character. Being admin, it would not require a lot of work.
Now, i couldn’t see myself doing that, as knowing the layout would remove any fun for me, and be hard not to “spoil” it for others i was running it with under the non admin account.
If you do not wish to use Family Share, by all means do not!
A lot of people, not even talking about myself, make good and well thought out suggestions or feedback, and they get nothing, or if they do get a reply it is little more than a stock from a community manager and poking their team or passing a message along then nothing is ever said about it again.
Meanwhile you have people throwing an absolute fit about something else just around the corner, and it is immediately or aggressively addressed. (Life Blood Spear, Family Share, etc.)
So yeah, it really does come across that way to at least some people.
well that IS the job of the community manager, they listen to us and poke devs. The official word comes back in the form of patch notes and announcements. You should understand their responsibilities and limitations, they are not 100% owner, creator, end all be all. They can only do THEIR job and consider the fallout of “miscommunications” or “promises made” that the devs cannot make happen as originally thought.
I am just giving an honest answer.
They did ask how u feel, fair enough
Just did RP on my server, on the same and single account I always use. No meta gaming issues, no cheating, juat a few folks enjoying some good old group ERP (Don’t you judge me) of a Pictish clan.
I really cannot, as a roleplayer and server admin fathom how family share disabled is so crippling to RPers. Honestly it looks like a lot of forum brigading as been going on rather than a truly outraged significant amount of the player base.
I think the Devs , admin and community managers of Funcom do a fantastic job , and sure they have a job i dont envy , you can’t please everyone! I think is extremely unfair to say they don’t listen!
I actually agree 100% in disabling family share accounts , is just not useful enough , specially if you compare it to the harm cheaters , extreme exploiters and hacker do to the game … they get banned no problem make a family share account get around it ! keep doing what they were doing ! alot of empty servers because of it!!
And I 100% disagree with re enabling Family share but that doesn’t mean they are doing a bad job or not listening to me!

As I said prior, there are many who have used their “alt” for various purposes, have put hundreds to thousands of hours into them, some even clan leaders. They build stories with each character, become well known (or nefarious) and add enrichment to some servers. As I said, it should be the owner/admin(s) to decide if and how they would use Family Share. The option should be available, as well as choice of mods, or not.
Says the one of hundreds who have never posted on this forum until this incident effected them. I love how so many first time posters came out of the woodwork for this one issue, but dont give a dam about anything else.
The free ride is back in service, so you can now stop posting again.
… If you’ve put thousands of hours into any game since May last year, you may wanna rethink the usage of your time. Also that sounds like far too much emotional investment into what is supposed to be discretionary leisure time. I lose things all the time in game. Have started over many times. Wiped my server also.
I am at this point hoping that family is not re-enabled as it does seem that it is more an exploiter and socket puppet master’s tool.
Then, do not implement it on your server! As I have said, I have no concern about “Official” servers, and I STRONGLY believe that the server owner/admin(s) should have the choice to block it’s use, i.e., disable it.
