Hi All.
I have a dedicated server. I never have this issue but my friend sometimes does. When he first joins, his character floats above the ground when he’s walking. I see no difference when I look at him.
It looks like he’s not in sync.
We’ve had this issue when connected to my game 9co-op), and on my dedicated server. We’ve had this on both maps and for a long while now.
If he quits out, it may take 2 ore more times but it settles down and he can play normal again.
Has anyone heard of this? Is there anything we can look for to stop this? It’s a pain on his side.
Floating issue is a common issue (player built structures only) for the game where the server or your case the Co-op computer is not lining up with the player’s computer. Two ways to fix it that is relog back in or move out of region and return so it has to redraw the structures.
Typically if he gets that issue often, I would have him log out in a safe but smaller blueprint structure.
Hey thanks! I thought it was something I was setting wrong. Yes it happens in player build structures (our base).
Next time I’ll have him transport to another area then back.
Short answer, have your friend install Conan on a SSD or M2 drive.
The issue is your friend loads in, there’s a delay because of the speed of his drive (this isn’t 100% the cause, but its pretty high). What is happening here is the game loads in, server sends him the map changes (buildings). His game loads up the images and everything else as best it can. But for some reason the information about the Physics of objects (collisions) isn’t processed on his end.
So while he can see the floors and walls of your buildings. His computer doesn’t know they’re solid. So when he walks over them, he falls through. However the Server knows they are there and doesn’t allow him to sink into the floor and pushes him back up.
This is what gives the illusion of floating in the air. Its also why reloading the game, or moving far away and coming back sometimes fixes it. However if he is running on an HDD, the problem will happen very often to where those other work arounds will be common enough to be annoying.
Moving to a faster M2 or SDD storage for the game mitigates the problem heavily to where you don’t see it 99.5% of the time. It can still happen in very very large buildings that you login to, or in crowded areas. But its far less likely.
Also anything your computer is doing that can extend loading times in game will also make this issue more likely. Background processes using alot of computer memory, CPU cycles, or read/writes on the drive Conan is on. Again the latter there is even more likely with a HDD since windows need to write to the drive and the slower it is, the longer it takes to do its process and the longer Conan has to wait to do its thing. Exacerbating the issue further.
SSD’s are pretty cheap and easy to install. Probably one of the cheapest upgrades you can do to a PC (and some consoles I believe if they don’t already have them), but gives one of the best QOL upgrades out there. And Stream has a nifty feature that will move files to a new drive for you, without the need to redownload.
Very common especially on console. It happens every time I log in on ps4, and as others have said here logging out and back in or running out of render distance seems to work. I’ve never experienced just a blanket floating though. It’s usually just a section like one staircase or a foundation or two. Happens much, much less on ps5, but it’s still there occasionally.
Thanks Taemien, for the complete answer.
He’s running on a fast laptop with an SSD. My server is a beast and is also running an SSD as my computer is too. It doesn’t happen all the time but like every other day. It may be his internet connection.
He tried teleporting to the other side of the island and no go. So he just logs out, restarts the game and back on.
Sounds like a latency issue that could be fixed with a setting somewhere.
When you mention laptop I immediately think of thermal issues. Laptops are notoriously heat inefficient so many times they don’t get their full specs as they throttle down.
Not every laptop has this problem, some are quite good.
Just a side note for this thread. I’m working away at the moment and I tried last night to run Conan on ssd on my ps4 off the hotels wifi which is absolute trash. I could log in fine but couldn’t walk on ANY building pieces without falling through them and floating. No amount of reloads or running out of render made a difference. Not sure if it’s the case with your friend, but I can attest that running Conan on trash wifi will cause these issues as well, as it’s the only scenario that I’ve personally seen this happen in.
I have this every day several times running off a dedicated win7x64 games pc on 1gbs fiber connection with only ssds.
Loading (of base assets) may takes 5mins+ sometimes the eternal hovering/falling usually allow you to take trips outside the base,(so through closed doors) even resulting in dieing.
When the “connecting” re-esthablishes, you will be pulled back to the last obstacle in your path.
In that meantime you can execute actions wich will sometimes succeed. I died 2 times in that state by falling. (wich should not be possible?
I tried to loot my clanmate through doors that are closed, i came to in reach but did not yet succeeded to loot his inventory (yet) but was close.
So its not failsafe, and probably prone to exploiting.
My friend has a killer gaming laptop, and just got a Netgear Night Hawk router, but he does live on the coast where the internet gets weird. He says he has good upload and download speeds but he thinks Steam or Funcom may be throttling the game.
I know it’s not my server. It’s new and is a beast. We don’t have this issue on any other game.
It never affects me.
I just figured I’d ask.
This issue dates back to EA in 2017. I believe Funcom’s netcode is restricting data transfer thru a hard cap on the packet size. This causes initial packet loss to the client. Have your friend just suicide once and it will resend the data.
The problem itself has nothing to do with hardware, I have a beasty machine myself and I still get that issue.
