I do understand it has a numerical effect/affect, but taking 8 times longer than the other furnace for a reduced fuel cost seems very lacking. Fuel is relatively easy to gather (wood, sticks, dry wood and coal) and we never hear people complaining of lack of fuel.
I get the feeling that material efficient furnaces aren’t/can’t be a thing (by why not with at least bricks!!!???) so I’m not sure what the solution is.
fuel is so easy come by, there almost no reason to ever use it. The 1 scenario were you make it do to lack of fuel… you end up having sit around waiting for smelting. >_>
And by which case, you can go out and get fuel… and then build other one. Solving the issue. XD
Maybe some odd ball server setting, kinda make it more useful.
Actually, this isn’t wrong, which is why I use the Kiln instead. The significantly smaller space requirement makes it more useful, it crafts at the same speed, and the fuel is not really an issue.
I do have one Fuel-Efficient Furnace, but it is not in my base, it is in my open-air market where the space is a non-issue. It is mainly there because it looks cool, but I do smelt silverstone and goldstone in it from my rocknoses. The fuel efficiency does mean I don’t need to haul fuel from my main base to restock it as often though.
Furnaces I would agree. The fuel efficiency does not warrant the XYZ footprint of the furnace. But I would also argue that heat-efficient furnace doesn’t either when compared to the kiln. The Kiln is just too good of a unit that fits neatly is a 1X1X1 space with relatively cheap build. the Heat Efficient is what? 3X3x2? That is 18 Kiln spaces that I can have manufacturing at the same time (and split up various things…Hardened steel, iron, bricks, goldstone, star metal, and eldarium all running at the same time.
However as far as aesthetics go, I love the fuel-efficient furnace as far as looks and am trying to figure out how to best use it in a build with the smoke stacks.
Bingo! I’ve never used any of the new T3 furnaces, because I can slap down several kilns in the space one of the new furnaces would take, and get an awesome combination of fuel efficiency and crafting speed by smelting in parallel.
I hope Funcom doesn’t read this and say “hmmmm, time to nerf kilns to hell”
Kilns were already nerfed when the new furnaces came out. So much so that the Improved Furnace was the best furnace (yes, the second one you unlock at level 30).
Funcom had to buff the Kiln and the T3 furnaces to make them even worth building.
Yes, inventory slots is actually a valid point. The T3 furnaces are both smaller in capacity than the Kiln, despite having larger footprints.
The Heat-Efficient Furnace (30) has half the inventory of the Kiln (60), and though the Fuel-Efficient Furnace (40) does have more, it is only an additional 10 slots, which is still a third smaller than the Kiln.
Doubling them up to 60/80 would put the Heat-Efficient on par with the Kiln and give the Fuel-Efficient an advantage of maximum inventory.
Alternately, bumping them both by 50% to 45/60 would put the Fuel-Efficient on par with the Kiln, and keep the Heat-Efficient with a disadvantage.
O… M… G… You’ve done it now… You’ve doomed us all!
But yeah, all the furnaces have their place… I like the Kiln best myself. Smallest footprint (can fit 6 in place of two “Improved Furnace” units), and a good medium of speed and efficiency!
I’ve used them, but rarely. Usually when I have a ton of mats that need processing, and I’m not in a hurry to do so, and I don’t feel like restocking fuel.
So the moon, sun, and planets need to align. But it does happen sometimes.
