Funcom, can we expect a new map or a complete overhaul of the Exiled Lands?

you may be overlooking the simple fact that CE saved them from bankruptcy… why would you work on old games that were driving you bankrupt when CE makes you profitable?

That is partially true, but I think it’s a bit more fair to say that they stopped most updates on them (Age of Conan had certainly stopped seeing updates for quite some time) before Conan Exiles had been released.

Again, why wouldnt they stop if they were bleeding cash? Bankruptcy is not something a company wakes up to one day, calls the bank to see if they can buy a new stapler and goes, “Whoops. Guess I’m outta money.” Once CE turned it around, you can hardly blame them for saying “okay, now that this game does well, lets frit away all our cash on those games that didnt do it the first time. A simple bug fix will do it…”.

I want a new map. Thats all.

It would be nice to get a new map, but I doubt we will. Siptah did not do as well as liked and that was the stab at new map. Maybe if all goes great with the next couple of Ages, they would consider it again, but I wouldnt get hopes up on that one.

I am commented that Age of Sorcery was a major update. You may not like what they brought but it was not a small patch. Exiled Lands will probably not get much new content since they stated they maxed out the map already. They had already updated the cities a year or 2 ago now. They already added all the dungeons they had planned. So, anything new will probably be on a smaller scale.

I would love a new map but those take a long time.

I enjoy IoS map, although it is not very popular. I think they still can add to IoS but not 100% certain they still have space or not.

Nice thing about being on PC is you can have mod created maps such as Sapphire Exiles, Savage Wilds, The Empire of Stygia to name a few. It’s a shame that consoles are not able to use mods.

I’m not talking about an enlargement of the map, it’s technically impossible. I’m talking about a map revamp. NPC camps could be like those of IoS (with Bosses and treasures to find) and the old dungeons of EL really need to be repopulated (frankly The Dregs is empty…there is not even a miniboss before arriving at the final boss) and I’m not talking about jungle which is quite uninteresting.

Althoigh I am well documented as having experienced bugs with the Encounters, there has been 6 of them to date, not 4:

  • A Snake Cult Caravan
  • Sacriffice Interrupted
  • Portal to Yuggoth
  • Grave Matters
  • Blowback
  • Head Hunting

When considering that we are currently only two chapters into the first of numerous Ages, there will be plenty more where they came drom.

As it should be. And you will find that this is the general consensus among the community. If it were to start offering in game advantages that would constitute pay to win advantages.

I for one would not want them to redesign the entire Exiled Lands. For one that would be a massive undertaking. For two, we do not need to reinvent the wheel; if its not broken don’t fix it.

I am pretty sure you would get way more people complaining if that would happen who would want that exact Exile II standing in the exact spot they’re used to

Just the other day there was a reddit post that blew my mind bashing the AoC mod for adding content and calling the authors “parasites” for changing Funcom’s original content… if you get that with an optional mod… I don’t want to see the reactions when such changes are brought on by Funcom and not optional

However the top right section of the map is still fairly empty and even Dennis said so on the dev stream that they’re looking into potentially expanding in that direction and they’ll see what they can do.
So you never know…

But that’s the point. Its not broken, but its wobbling and in need of repair. Enapets is not saying “replace” the Exiled Lands, but fix the parts that aren’t working so good. In other words, it “is” broken (not to the point of being unplayable, but certainly showing its age) and needing to be fixed.

Everyone’s beating around the bush. Exiled Lands is broken. In 2017 it was a good map. In 2023, the game has far evolved beyond it.

If you are on PC, load up Savage Wilds. Seriously, try it out in Singleplayer for a bit. Load it as the only mod. It is in all sincerity what Exiled Lands should be.

Since the game has released there has been MASSIVE improvements on the tools available for the devs and modders alike. The devs are constrained by a map made nearly 6 years ago. There is inefficiencies with it, slapped on fixes and patchwork additions, and it was never really designed with the modern Conan Exiles in mind.

The Exiled Lands, should not simply be revamped but replaced. Replaced with better progression flow, better techniques for adding dungeons, with, and better placement of resources to encourage players to run into each other for PVE and PVP reasons.

There is too much wrong with it to revamp or improve it. It should be replaced. When you have seen what a map can be, you never wish to go back.

I agree 100%, this map is amazing and while it does have its problems in some areas it is no less than way ahead of both official maps in so many ways
Like I said, it has its problems like… rocks and trees that spawn as non harvestable inside your base and won’t disappear until you have been out of render distance and return, this happens in a lot of places in Savage Wilds map, but I think they will eventually get these fixed.
also there is the problem of too many big mountains that suddenly spawn in while you are getting close to them, maybe not really a bug, but a bit annoying suddenly seeing a mountain that you cannot pass unless you find another route around it, but the map is brilliant and the dungeon design is both clever and great looking, they offer more than just difficult enemies but also puzzles that you need to solve in order to progress, and it has a much more fleshed out trading system than the official maps - savage Wilds is highly recommended for those that can play on it (pc users and streaming accounts)

This I don’t agree with, Exiled Lands contains a lot of nostalgia and has become a big part of Conan Exiles during the years, a revamp of some areas yes, but I think a new map with a better connection between the official maps so that we can travel freely between the different maps without having to go through a character transfer process would be great, this off course would have to be arranged server collections so that you cannot travel to just any server map, and maps should not be a paid expansion, so add Siptah map as a free map for all game owners with the exception of the Siptah building sets and the unique armor sets that came with it, they could still be a paid option when buying the Siptah dlc

I’ve played on Savage Wilds. It’s not that good. Loads of vastly empty space. Invisible walls all over the place for no reason. It is really not that great of a map. It is not that bad of a map, but I would rather play on the Exiled Lands any day of the week.

Hard no. Should more options exist? Yes. But that does not mean you just get rid of the map you already have in the process.

This is actually a Funcom issue. They need to fix it on their end. It can randomly happen in Exiled Lands and Siptah as well.

I’d like to know where these walls are, I haven’t encountered them in the last year and a half of playing there. As for open space…huh? I mean it has more than Exiled Lands, but way less than Siptah, and those are designed with people building in mind. Which to me is a big boon for a map. Maps are meant to be played in, not visited.

Maybe I wasn’t clear and for that I apologize. By vast areas of open space I mean HUGE sections with no NPC’s to fight. Nothing at all (maybe a gazelle to two but seriously, nothing). This is a known issue because the mod designers expect the server hosts to populate them map themselves, so if you are not having this issue on the server you are playing on, that is because your server host populated the map more so than the original map has. If you are playing it without any added mobs and disagree, you are not being honest as the mod author has even stated this to be a “feature”.

As for the invisible walls, I’ve encountered them in a number of area in the southern jungle, the water near the jungle where the map clearly shows more space, and even islands, but NOPE you smack right into an invisible all. I’ve hit them in lots of places. Those are just ones I can think of off the top of my head. And resources are FAR more spread out than on the Exiled Lands so if you build near the south, you are completely screwed at getting things like black ice or star metal as they are VASTLY further away (with theoretically far more people trying to kill you in between if you are playing pvp).

I have never encountered this on either the exiled lands or the isle of siptah. But this happens ALL THE TIME on the Savage Wilds map. Sorry, but you are going to have to give some proof before I take your work on this one.

There is an option to enable them through the map’s commands. I’ve played around with it and it gets really sketchy in the north when its on. Use at your own risk.

The areas you speak of are where the map ends. Exiled Lands and Siptah have a wall too, that just kills you. To me a wall that blocks and one that kills isn’t a criteria of map choice.

As for travel, use the caravans. Just like you do map rooms and obelisks. You’ll have the same issues as Exiled Lands in PVP when you use its fast travel system.

Its an issue all modded maps have because when loading into a server there is a client-server desync on initial load in. When leaving the area and coming back it fixes it. But can happen on vanilla maps if there is a performance issue.

Robtheswede stated it was being investigated internally with Funcom. They have yet been able to fix it entirely.

Well, if Funcom ever does do a new map, I hope its like a “Lost World” (dinosaurs). Fortunately, Conan fighting dinosaurs is also lore-friendly. I’d like to see Conan Exiles ramped up its survival aspects in a hostile, prehistoric world setting. I think it would be fun to try to exist in a primitive world where its dangerous to walk outside your front door.
(Ark tried to do something similar, but added sci-fi and breeding to it; I’d like to see Conan Exiles do it ‘better’).

This one does also feel that the Exiled Lands could use a bit of tinkering.

Perhaps an itteh bitteh map expansion (just filling in that bite between jungle and highlands) but that is complicated for already discussed reasons.

The Dregs could use a little dusting off.
There are also a few spots that look like they lead somewhere, but are just blank black space, or tease us with a disjunction that doesn’t break reality.
Warmaker has a few spots that look lovely for expansion… Looking at you Yeti.

Also some of the factions are extremely limited in presence or impact. Recruitable Lemurians are in one camp and don’t even appear in their faction gear, dressed like Exiles instead. That’s hardly worthy of a faction. Zath priests are an alternate Mitra… No, please.
There are a few NPCs (non-Cimmerian Berzerkers) who exist and would be great to add at some spawn points.
Volcano thralls are just inferior to Cimmerians and Treasure Hunters… This is very sad considering what a pain they are to acquire.

Oh, and possibly can we get the Mummy of the Ring and Toth Amon to fight? The latter seems like a good Age of Sorcery capstone boss.

These aren’t major issues, but they are room to grow. Places that could use a bit of polish to restore the shine and catch the map up to where the game has gone, especially with the notation that the majority of the game is expected to be played at max level.

Siptah is in a better place in many respects, in that the majority of the buildable map is useful at all levels, if a bit on the tough early side.
However, it is smaller, has significantly less variance in biomes and npc factions (Accursed being basic carbon copies of Forgotten Tribe doesn’t help. At least the Stygians and Black Corsairs have their own outfits, also, the Primitive Degenerates feel just a touch incomplete, much like their heavy armour set) and completely lacks a capstone. There is no way to remove the bracelet and leave the island. No way to ascend the Tower.
It just feels a touch unfinished to this one.

That said, while a new map would be quite a bit of work, this one would be in favour, especially if it is of the Savage Wilds or Empire of Stygia flavor. If this one recalls correctly, in a stream they noted that they did not want future play spaces locked behind a paywall (such as the Siptah DLC). So that is hopeful that there might be more spaces. However, it is unknown what sort of funding goals they would need for that.

This one would love to see a public counter in the Bazaar noting how much in sales would be required to fund a new zone. Sorta like an internal Kickstarter goal chart.

I completely disagree with this
While the desert portion of the map is old… and it does feel old indeed… it still has its place.
However, the North was added afterwards and it is an absolute masterpiece to this day and imo the best map there is for this game with attention to detail to every small thing. If the rest of the map would follow the same principles and quality then it would be the best map for CE without question, but yea the old desert and the jungle to the east are kinda dragging down the average.

So while there could be improvements I agree, I would never want to remove / replace it and I think most of the issues could actually be fixed via some refurbishing / remastering.

Also note that the distribution of resources makes perfect sense when playing the map as “intended”… Keep in mind when it originally launched we didn’t have this fast paced progression and I mentioned this a couple of times before, but having a 0.2x -ish XP rate is what feels natural in this game, they just sped progression up so much over the years that everything feels a bit skewed… With that slow progression the resource distribution is pretty much spot on - at least for gameplay… maybe not the “PvE / PvP reasons” whatever that might mean  (just wondering why would anybody want to run into others when gathering resources on PvE, not exactly the best time to socialize when the other guy is stealing all the iron nodes :joy: )

Anyway, my point is that I think EL is definitely not beyond repair / hope

I though that the context of my post was fairly straight forward, but just in case it was not, I will clarify. I have no, and I mean absolutely zero objection to fixing bugs, optimizing performance, improving AI and doing reworks. However, I do object, and very strongly at that, to replacing or changing camps, completely changing the outlay of dungeons or redesigning the map. And based on this statement, I assumed that is what Enapets was requesting.

And that is what I assumed that Enapets was asking for, although I am happy to stand corrected if he wishes to clarify.

This is what I was originally referring to @Bodin, and I am vehemently opposed to it. Changing the core gaming experience, ie- the environment/map itself, would not be well received. Just look at the Momentum Movement update, it was not even as grandiose as this notion and it was an umitigated disaster. So I personally am NOT in favour of rewriting the gaming experience we have known and loved (thousands of hours in the most cases) for some 4.5 years now because the grass might be greener on the other side.
