Funcom Taking a Month Off? Exploiters Win. R.I.P. Conan

, ,

Lol. I play offline (limited data and time), so exploits don’t really affect me. I get my community through my church and family (4 kids), and don’t usually have enough patience by the end of my work-day to deal with most multi-player environments. This is the first game I’ve ever been motivated enough to post in a forum. It really is a game with some incredible potential and I genuinely want to see the performance improved to where I can fully enjoy it, just by myself :).

They’re just people. Don’t we all hate it when our bosses overwork us like a robot? Chill for a bit and just take a break. Or don’t play. Or play other modes.

An extra month is not going to kill any of us and if it means it’ll help keep the team from burning out, then why not. Whatever the reason is, they’re just people. And people need time-off.

The exploiters on my server are now spamming the chat with the link from reddit abotu them postponing this patch, after 800 hours in this game, they sure love to neglect it and reward bad players!

When I find exploits I post how to do them to put people on level playing field. My post have been removed by funcom several times lol

You do realize that they have a studio in North Carolina right? In America… right. Yeah not buying that. So you are telling me that basically the entire country takes off then. So everything just stops. Blam. That’s it. You even have to know that is not true. In this day and age it is not possible. Maybe some do get off, what they probably do is rotate people off and on. Which makes way more sense then what you just posted.

Like I have seen some excuses but if Funcom wants to go with that one then it is really worse than I thought originally. You are supposedly a AAA publisher now and cant fix the game you just released less than 2 months prior because you have to take a vacation. Lmao. Like seriously. Really lmao. It is straight up comical at this point. I feel for you PC players. I have no idea about XBox. But us PS4 players are just hosed. The game is broken and unplayable. Not someone is cheating or there is a bug that causes this or that. Like literally you can not play. Think how you would feel after that. And to think I complained about ARK. They should win an award if this is common practice now in the gaming industry lol.

My understanding is that the NC development staff are committed to other projects. Even if there were availability in the NC-based team to work on this, the ramp up time required to get someone up to speed who has not been working on the project probably eats away all of the benefits of transferring the workload. Plus, the inclusion of new staff onto a project always increases the chance of human error, which would make a buggy situation even buggier.

As for the Norwegian mandatory vacation and cycling staff in and out… if the development team is small enough, even losing one person to vacation time would cause delays. There may not be anyone to cycle through on the patch development team.

Funcom may not have much of a choice about these situations. Despite that, they still need to compete in a global market place. At the end of the day we all get to decide whether or not to continue buying products from Funcom. If Norway’s labor laws get in the way of Funcom’s market viability, so be it.

Yeah I am just not seeing it. Labor laws or not. It just says you have to take mandatory amount of days off each year. Not when. Yes I know what yall said about the temperatures and such but dont you think this is a horrible time of the year to do so. Plus like I said it says anytime during the year. If the Devs want to take off right after release then they should be fired. And if they are only using the NC team for other things while the product out is dying then that is also a problem of mismanagement. I see why this company almost went completely under once before. This studio will be in the same spot come this time next year and will be trying to push that mutant game on all of you all and it will happen over and over. I am through with them.

That company is a joke. Just when it seems they can not sink any further, they surprise anybody and brings the collapse to a new low. You are just mocking your playerbase, Funcom. You should be ashamed of your high levels of incompetence. Minor bug fixing, not new content at all and a paid DLC is what you have offered to the community since fake releasing two months ago. I was a faithful and patient player of AoC since it’s begginings, I buy CE on the first day of EA and I have more than 1500 hours of playing but now you have traspassed all limits. Enjoy your vacation, you have earned it.

Reaing this frustrating me( Is Conan Exiles really official supported game? May be this game gave off th third indi-company?

I can see how it would be very frustrating to roll on a Private server for a while and make a lot of progress, only to have it wiped out by a rollback, or to be playing at a disadvantage due to unscrupulous Admins, but for me I’d take this risk over being stuck on a an unmoderated server full of spiteful little scumbags and exploiters that can’t be gotten rid of.

It’s by no means a given that these types of games come with official servers provided by the publisher, and in this case it seems Funcom have almost shot themselves in the foot by doing so. So much of the bile on this forum is directed at official server related issues, with a prevailing attitude that purchasing the game somehow entitles the player to make demands that these servers be policed and moderated in the same way that private servers are.

It can be frustrating waiting for exploits to be squashed, but in my experience in this type of setup, it’s the people that are more of a problem than the game. In an unmoderated environment, the dregs of the gaming community wil always find a way to cheat, harass or otherwise ruin peoples fun. It may get harder for them as bugs are removed, but they’ll still find a way to be assclowns.

I think it’s laudable that FC decided to provide these official servers, which they were in no way obliged to do. I wouldn’t like to presume how much providing this service costs them, or whether this cost has ultimately been offset by additional players drawn to playing on official. I’d be surprised if they weren’t having second thoughts though.

Personally I do hope that these exploits do get fixed for the benefit of the decent people playing on official servers, but I certainly don’t begrudge the hard working devs having a bit of downtime after a no doubt very hectic release period either.

A extra month is gonna wipe most of players of my official server due to decay timers.

There are some big posts about this, Funcom said they were listening and debating it xD.

But then not changing decay timers till August means most of players who go on holidays etc will give up playing once they come back and see everything gone.

I could survive with 500 fixes patch coming later, as I play on pve. People on pvp seems to be another case.
Can survive with decay times as short as they are, but my official server will be even more dead, if possible…

Wait. I am confused. So by them providing servers that is a good thing right and they should be thanked because they didn’t have to? This is a multiplayer survival type game right? I have never played one where they didn’t supply servers. I dont think this should be looked upon as good only that they did something every other game does. Like PvP servers are always supplied by the company. You have options to have your own personal one but they offer “official” servers.

Sorry if it’s confusing. I’m not suggesting everyone sits down and writes FC a thankyou letter, I’m just saying that it’s unrealistic to expect that these servers are going to be anything other than the Mos Eisley of the gaming world. Some other multiplayer games provide official public servers, yes, but there are an awful lot that don’t. It isn’t a given.

Ah ok I see what you are saying. Thing is I wouldn’t buy a game or play one that doesn’t offer it especially when it should be a given since they stated they would. I get what you are saying though. In this day and age I thought that was part of your 60 dollars. Because they sure dont offer enough without it.

No, these kind of games all offer official dedicated servers, a requisite for them to be competitive.

Even indie survivals like osiris new dawn, citadel, dark and light or savage lands have them.

That is what I was thinking. I cant think of another game that doesn’t that is realistically any good. This is a AAA game right?

Sorry Funcom.
I have followed you since the start of Early Access, but what you now do is very badly. I know that peoples need holidays etc. I also work in a company and when we dont can handle the time plan we worked longer and start earlier and changed planed holidays back that WE can handle the time planed to sell our machines for the car industry.
When you take a break now (and the Game is currently in a Stage were no break is accesable) that only shows us that you are Not interested in your own company to survive, Conan Exiles safed you! And peoples will remember. Age of Conan there are many years between but If you will sell a Game next year the peoples will remember and you dont need to try this becouse it will be a wurf in a black hole.
When you take a break now and leave the Community alone that SUPPORT you, i also will take a breake from you, but forever and not for 3 weeks and i will Not be the only one!

How about the original Minecraft? One of the biggest selling games of all time.

In any case, I’m not arguing against official servers being provided if the publisher chooses to do so. All I’m saying is that it’s unrealistic to expect that they’re going to be moderated, and the entitled raging expectation posts that we see from certain forum-goers is very much out of place. If the official servers are your bag then I wish you the best of luck!

Pure hyperbole. What company in their right mind is not interested in surviving?

I don’t know much about Norway’s labour laws but it has been suggested that this sort of thing is not at all unusual. In any case, let’s not blow things out of proportion. People need rest, and it’s hardly the end of the world if a patch is delayed.

Very true! It’s easy to lose focus when stressed out. I know that some of my best work has happened shortly after having a good holiday
