Purchased Conan Exiles Complete Edition through Steam. Let it install last night.
System was rebooted at least twice after install.
Attempted to start game this evening. Started from Steam Library game library menu.
After a moment, I got a screen that showed me the various DLC modules already purchased with a GO TO STORE option for each and a single BACK option at the bottom. None of the buttons did anything.
I realized in a minute that a game screen was underneath the DLC sales screen. I alt tabbed to it, and the game crashed immediately. I told it to send a report.
Game is installed in default location on boot volume covering a Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 terabyte SSD.
I have some minimal memory acceleration set up to factory rated speeds for the strips, which appear on the Gigabyte official compatibility list.
At the time of the first event I was running September’s nvidia 431.86 drivers.
I run four monitors, but none of them over 1920x1200.
I updated to 441.20. No change.
I used Steam to verify the install. No change.
This system has never had any version of the GeForce Experience installed. I’m pretty paranoid about bloatware.
I run Malwarebytes, but had deactivated it for the game session.
FWIW, this is a dev box, so it’s got Visual Studio 2017 installed with virtually every option and target environment enabled.
Forgive my memory and the relatively dumb suggestion, but have you tried escape key when the DLC screen pops up? I haven’t seen it in a while so I don’t recall if that will close that DLC screen, but ya.
Next suggestion. Sounds like you know your way around a computer so, have you messed with the graphics settings in the ini’s yet? Kinda a long shot, but was thinking of maybe if you matched the resolution of your monitor (s) and your native res to the game ini files, along with enabling (or perhaps disabling) Fullscreen, could be worth a look at.
I’m not familiar with dev boxes though and Visual Studio, not sure if there is any connection there.
P.S. Our systems are almost identical, so, high fivesies. Also, I understand your reservations about GeForce Experience, but it’s pretty great. Especially these days with integrated Reshade.
In addition to Multigun’s suggestions, and after you have gotten past the advertisement screen, let me suggest that before running the game you change a couple of main menu items under Video settings.
First, run the game in Windowed Fullscreen. It resolves potential future problems and I have used this setting exclusively with this and all previous games.
Secondly, change the resolution to exactly match your primary monitor’s resolution settings. This allows no-pause alt-tabbing back to your desktop, bypassing the need for your VGA to accommodate changes.
After doing the above, restart the game, just to the main menu, several times.
Multigun, the escape key had no effect on the DLC screen. Nothing did whatsoever.
I only mentioned not having GeForce Experience because the sticky common technical problems thread comments that many crash-on-start issues appear to be – anecdotally – related to having GFE installed.
Jim1, thank you … but after this evening’s apparently significant update to the game, which Steam forced me download and install before allowing me to run it … any attempt to start Conan:Exiles tells me that it can’t start because Steam is offline, even though I can open the Steam app, look through the library, verify files, and play other games just fine. Yes, even after a reboot. Very frustrating.
It’s looking more and more like Conan Exiles is a candidate for a refund request.
Ah. Another Win 10 update. Another client verify files. Two more reboots. Crashed very shortly after trying to join an Official server, but let me join the second time after restarting a third time. Methinks it’s a new Windows 10 configuration issue, maybe.
Could be a Windows configuration thing. Be interesting to hear what that is if that is indeed the case.
Feels dumb for mentioning this but, since I literally just dealt with it on an unrelated software, thought I would bring it up. Make sure and check any virus software protections installed on the system to see if it’s blocking anything.
