Playing on american official server and when thralls die the name goes from english to german. I have seen lots of posts on this for private servers but havent seen any for official servers. At least none within the last year or so. Is there a known fix for this? Or can we not fix it on an official server? Playing on official server 6442 PVE for isle of siptah. Also this is for pc xbox game pass
Greetings Zenmaker!
Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to our forums!
In order for us to properly assess this, could you please send us a screenshot where we can see the thrall’s name in english and then being converted to german?
We’ll be waiting for your reply!
How exactly was my reply “offensive”?!
It was simply a sarcastic joke.
But somebody doesn’t know how to use google translate as it seems.
This is a legacy bug from the release of Siptah.
It’s nothing new but is being ignored I guess.
Actually, I saw it on PlayStation prior to siptah, but yes, it did show up again after it released.
It’s a common bug since… years. Should be registered in Funcom’s list of bugs, if such a document exists.
6442 has been misconfigured for years. Funcom has ignored numerous bug reports about it.
Nothing to do with a specific server, this has been around since EA all over.
It is server-specific. No surprise they messed it up on numerous servers, but they managed to not mess it up on some, so you can actually play Official Siptah and not experience this problem, just have to be lucky to find a server they didn’t mess up the config years ago and leave it to fester for eternity.
It’s because the servers have this setting in German:
This only changes how the date looks like in your taskbar, nothing else. This is not the timezone or location or OS language or anything like that. For example, if set it to French it will say “vendredi 12 janvier”, and with English it will say “12 January, Friday”… and that’s it.
This setting can be changed in real time on Windows, no reboot needed. Only the Exiles server needs to be restarted, so it’s trivial to test.
I tested this on my private server, if I change to French: dead NPCs show a French name, if I set it to Spanish: Spanish name. English: English names etc.etc.This is despite Windows being firmly in English, with English location set too (both client and server and the game itself is fully in English too).
Even with the setting above, it hilariously tries to find a “UK” translation, here’s the log from my server where this shows:
[2024.01.11-21.14.57:746][ 0]LogTextLocalizationManager: No specific translations for (‘en-GB’) exist, so (‘en’) translations will be used.
(The message goes away if I use English (United States) format.)
Why do Conan servers use this specific Windows setting to determine localization is another matter though, and terribly silly! Never seen another program do that so I am guessing it’s not intended. I think Conan Exiles servers simply read the wrong field from the Windows settings.
This has been a thing on Playstation for over 5 years now.
