Just started couple of days ago and mid 20’s. The two of us are playing agility builds using bows and iron poniards. That may change, my wife is developing Alchemy and is going to provide us with some respec options later. But for now we’re starting off learning agility builds.
Is this a game where it’s beneficial to put ALL or MOST of your points into a particular damage stat (Agility), or is it best to spread them around? What are the most important stats for us? And now that I’m at Expert Armoring, what’s a good armor set for me to set my sights on for the two of us?
Once 60 I do 20 STR 20 AG 20 VIT for fighting in general.
There’s a few perks that you’ll have to decide on for preference.
Add in agility damage weapons and armor. Additionally buffing yourself for agility helps. You can use foods and potions that last 1 hour or end upon death.
I believe zamorian armor might have full agility for the most part. I’m at work so can’t remember all or reference it right now but if you do a search on Conan Wikis it will list all armor pieces with agility. Keep in mind that some may not be available to you as they’re either only in admin panel, are part of DLCs, Battlepass or Black Lotus Bazaar.
Ok, thanks for the response. I took your advice and read through the Wiki. I read something about Black Corsair armor, which is light but all pieces give agility damage bonus. The recipe is way over in the jungle (N8) on the Eastern coast, not sure if we could survive that journey but unless someone says “No way” , we’re gonna try it.
Is strength useful to us if we’re only using agility weapons right now?
when i start a new character, i grind my way up to 30 or 40 just by scavenging gear, i dont start building base or even crafting til around then.
if you only use agi wpns, strength is only good for the perks, tho i think it adds some to your encumbrance stat (how much you can carry). the damage type of your weapon is gonna determine what stat it pulls from.
i know i’ve heard ppl say 20 str 20 agi 20 vit is the ‘only’ viable build on official pvp, i play on private pve servers so i dunno. i like my build, but i dont know if it would be viable in competitive play.
also this: if you can manage to kind of sneak into the siege base at al-merayah at early level there’s a musashi’s katana somewhere in there. alternatively, you can pull the sentries outside of the base to fight with the nearby elephants, see if you can get them worn down enough that you can kill them, and get some yellow border hardened steel wpns, if you luck out youll get short sword for your agi build, makes a nice scavenged wpn to use for grinding experience
@RagnarRandom, by “scavenging gear” I assume you’re not referring to some kind of scavenging mechanic in the game, you just mean “looting gear”?
How do you survive to 30-40 without doing any crafting? Just incrementally killing things and getting better gear from them as you go? Wow, that really works? Nice to know, I have no idea how to tell what kind of mobs I’m capable of taking down, I just keep trying them all but none of them has dropped gear. Maybe that’s only humans at camps?
yah by scavenging thats what i mean is looting
only humans drop gear, and that’s actually a new-ish thing, they didnt used to drop gear. when they do drop gear it’s got bad durability, but you can repair gear you have taken the knowledge to make even if you havent actually made any.
and my statement that i dont start building til later, that’s somewhat inaccurate. i will make a simple staging base with nothing but some crafting stations and a bed while i grind up, so that is still building. i dont usually do much crafting though until i get up to 30 or 40. but if you put your first 20 points into agility, you can do quite a bit of grinding on noob river just with stone weapons.
didnt mean to make it sound like i was some sort of badarse tho, i play on private server with drop on death disabled, alot of my playstyle doesnt transfer to official servers so take it with a healthy pile of salt
tho talking about it makes me wanna log in and play on official for a while, see how far i can get with just the scavenging style.
That recipe requires black silk which is only a material that can be acquired and not made at any bench. It is an rng drop from certain NPCs in that camp.
Light armor allows easier stamina regeneration but is poor in terms of armor value. A heavy set would probably be better suited to you as you’re learning.
Strength is useful and unless you’re minmaxing, the absence of some agility is not a make or break situation.
Take some time to read the perks in the attributes. Strength is a valuable attribute.
I’m going to add on here that as you’re learning, go with the playstyle that suits you. Learn, rinse, repeat.
The more you learn on your own the better as those experiences will be ingrained. There’s a lot to this game that is not apparent and experienced players can advise on but won’t replace you learning on your own.
Like me for instance. I’m PVP so I’m looking for the quickest and easiest way to get to 60 and be ready to fight. But I learned as you are now and am intimately aware of most of what Conan has to offer. My advice for leveling is to take it slow and easy so you get familiar. There’s so many ways to play Conan and I would never suggest power leveling or farming first.
Happy adventures and get comfortable with dying, losing your stuff and the bugs and you’ll be awesome.
As Kiki said, once you get your playstyle focus on that.
I’m more of a generalist and PVE style player and so my agility builds are
Ag 15
Vit 15
Grit 10
Enc 20
I know what you are thinking. This is a carry-all build and it is but the encumbrance affects Agility when you pick Precision Strike and who wants to turn down free armor pen?
Weapons of choice
M Black blade with Fencer kit (giving you 84 light attack and 83 heavy but katana light attack is where the blade just works the best)
Diseased Spike with Master Weapon fitting. Another fast attacking weapon
I haven’t had too much success in short swords since the update due to the stabby nature of the weapon requires a more precise targeting that I can only master with target lock at this time with any real assurance. The punching daggers have the same issue but their attack is so quick and so low in stamina costs, so what if you miss the first 5, you can adjust so the next 15 hit.
Armor
I flip depending on mood between silent legion medium with gauntlet of the brute switch or a mix of godbreaker/chilled godbreaker (getting the temp regulation to 23H/32C protections, gas mask, healing, and better stamina regen on top of the massive armor) The boots do nothing for you special since you are using legendary gear but they do give you 10 in either heat or cold protection which is why I keep it. Make with a scoutwright and put armor reduction on the helm, chest and legs while the hands and feet get gliding joints. You can literally go anywhere on the map.
Great advice, Kikigirl, many thanks, and thanks also to all others who responded. Great game, great community, how has this game been so far off my radar? I think when I learned it was Funcom that probably turned me off, I’d had so many disappointments with their other games. Looks like they finally pulled one together.
My wife and I are enjoying it thoroughly and looking forward to taking it slow and easy and organically learning our way though it.
As @Kikigirl, suggested. The Wiki is your friend when it comes to choosing armour sets as the preview in-game doesn’t give the bonuses unfortunately. Basic Light, Medium & Heavy armour pieces give +carrying capacity bonuses and these are really useful, not to be overlooked. In the end you’ll likely have a couple of sets of equipment: One for adventuring, one for gathering & one for sleeping* in I guess are the three basic ones. A set to set your sights on? That again is really up to you, don’t be afraid to try out different types to see how you like them. For me personally for adventuring/fighting it’s usually a medium armour +stamina set, +agility set, +vitality set, or some combination thereof. I don’t really use followers of late, so don’t have a follower-specific set.
Attributes again are such a personal thing. As an agility fighter I have the generalist allocation similar to @erjoh above (A20,V15,G10,E15, I have A20 for the double-jump which I love, and try to keep my encumbrance medium or lighter for the Precision Strike perk). However when leveling up I tend to focus on getting E, G, V and A to level 5 first, then getting E to 15 for the Hard Worker perk, I find that extremely useful. It’s not a hard and fast rule I stick to, but something I find I generally do in all my playthroughs.
*Your character can die (albeit it very rarely) sometimes when waking up in the world, so I would recommend getting into the habit of them sleeping ‘naked’ with all armour/equipment safely in a bedside chest or similar
