Great Game, Horrible ENDING

You make a great response. im at pease with this argument now.

YES, because in the end they spell out the wrong one.

Look at Conan, he doesn’t wear the bracelet and he lives in Sepermeru, because the devs spell out the correct ending for him lol. Remove the bracelet and stay.

They kinda do. Listen to what the archivist says. Read what the text warnings say. You are given the choice. Just because you only get a cut scene for one doesn’t make the other less legit.

Conan is chilling in Sep City before he continues to wander Hyboria. That’s all. He’s not sitting in that bar saying “Oh how wonderful this place is. If only I was trapped here, like you!” Dude just wants to bang Razma and get on his way.

Cutscene in a game decides everything. It leads the story where to go, and it leads to the wrong ending unless we don’t go there.

I said let us play without the bracelet like Conan, he’s free so no need to feel trapped, and we are too if the devs give us a better ending. And Conan will say something different the next time we meet him.

Instead of wearing the bracelet on the wrist, our exile pries the gemstone and wear it as a pendant on the neck which means he’s a free man living in Exile land and because it’s needed for maproom. That would let us know whether other player has beaten the game or not.

In the end this is still a game, and exile land is the only available land to play, stripping us of our progress and throw back in the game by creating a new character and start from zero is really a bad choice for an “ending”.

Unless the devs make a new DLC MAP with different contents like Ark with Aberration/Scorched Earth/Ragnarok etc, but in order to play it we have to beat the Exile Land first, after that we’re free to travel between servers/maps. One million plus people will probably play and try to beat the exile land for playing the DLC lol, or just a map update but only for people who have removed the bracelet but still on the same map/server.

The cut scene is just the result of a choice. That choice is simply stay or go. If you’re staying, there is no reason to remove the bracelet. A disadvantage even, as the process may or may not destroy it. The character leaving is a signal that there is a much wider world with more to offer than the Exiled Lands.

I will admit, a cosmetic pendant as a bit of flair saying “hey I beat the story missions” would be pretty nifty. And about as game breaking as having a hard to find emote. I like that idea.

BUT! Bare sunburnt barbarian butt! A separate map, sold a DLC, where one could move between it and the old map, would be, broken. What if you and your clan don’t have the DLC, but mine do? Can we raid you in the Exiled Lands, then retreat to safety in the Free-but-still-hanging-around Lands? It makes it absolutely pay to win. Having a section of the map behind the death wall, but only accessible after the story quest, turns it from an optional accomplishment to a mandatory step.

Besides, do you get absolutely no joy from leveling up? Most games in the past just gave you 3 lines of typo riddled text and reset you to the title screen. The game is the reward. You don’t get a little patch after watching a good movie.

The next result of that choice is the deletion of the character and put us back in character creation menu. So it’s not stay or go, it’s still stay or “stay”. With “stay” as in, let me strip you of your progress and you start again from zero.

The better ending would be removing bracelet, prying gemstone and put it on a necklace so not to break the story that it’s needed for maproom/obelisk attunement, and put the character back in the game with removed bracelet but now wearing a necklace, it’s a proof of a free exile that can leave whenever he wants but chose to stay in the land. Also everyone can see whether other player is wearing a necklace or a bracelet.

If you like it the way it is then fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

People come and go on a server, so if one goes then raid the others. He’ll meet another clan on the other server as well. As for a section of the map beyond the death wall, it can act as an incentive for people to actually finish the story, it doesn’t have to be mandatory, can even only for acquiring cosmetic items or rare mount or whatever is tempting but won’t give people advantage since that part of the map isn’t part of Exile Land, just a taste of the outside world. It’s just a stretch so I won’t delve too much further into it.

I get it that this is a sandbox and we play how we want to with whatever contents the game has to offer, but this thread isn’t about that. The thread already says Great Game.

If you’re saying there are games in the past that ended like that, I’d say yes but NOT all of them, right? Some even have satisfactory ending, multiple ending, even NewGame+ , but here like the title says, horrible ENDING thus whoever resonates with that would pour their own idea about how the game should end, but if you think it’s fine as it is then I’m fine with you being fine with the ending as it is. but I’m still not fine with the ending itself.
