I’ve done 8 of these in the basic animal tamer building. 6 of them were shade spiced pork. the other 2 jsut pork. Not a single Greater Sabertooth. Just bad RNG? Or am I doing something wrong?
I don’t see shadespiced pork in the list of foods for sabortoothe kittens. Is it called something else?
I believe it’s called Shadespiced fatty meat (though my memory could be playing tricks) - it certainly used to be the best food for sabretooths (used to be 30% chance of a greater) (with raw pork at 20% chance). But it was a while back that I last raised sabretooths, so it could well have changed by now.
Yeah, if that’s what op is using then it sounds like just bad rng.
Wow. No trips to Vegas for me then. Does the tier of the Animal Tamer Pen matter? I’m going go grab 2 more. It’s such a hike though. Oh well scenery is nice.
Best I can say to that is the tier didn’t used to matter (in theory still shouldn’t). Last time I ran tests on the animal taming (spawning 100 cubs, taming at fastest possible speeds) the numbers all came out around the right percentage - but I do remember there were less probable results along the way if you judged it just by that set of 5 - it just evened out in the long term. So, hopefully this time rng balances the score.
bad rng, keep trying. on AVG you should get 1 greater and 4 normal per 5 cubs if you used the fatty meat.
Bad RNG, pen tier doesn’t matter. I have the lowest tier pen and I normally get at least one greater saber from each batch of 5 kittens, but I had one batch that had no greaters whatsoever. happens
61 cubs, only 14 greater.
30% chance of. Greater … so if you put 100 kittens in and got 3 … or 30 then at the time of cooking the 30% did it’s dicd roll …
It’s not cumulative 30% it’s per kitten dice roll
I got my greater sabretooth in a tier 1 pen with a chunk of exotic flesh
Correct - however, over a larger sample size variance will tend to work out, allowing the actual number to home in closer to the number suggested by probability. So each individual ‘dice roll’ stands alone as a separate 30% probability, but over 100 (or 1000 etc) tests, you would expect to see close to 30% overall. (And, if you run the test, you do find exactly that - however, for a smaller subset, the variance can easily swing the results much further - so, for example, any set of 5 could easily have anywhere from 0 to 5 greaters.)
I believe this is called the Gambler’s Fallacy. I’ve got four more in the oven cooking with just pork. Hopefully RNG will be benevolent.
Good luck
Ok did 3 more on pork and still no Greater. Has anybody playing single player been able to get Greater Sabertooth on Siptah using the basic taming pen and pork?
Raw pork or shadespiced fatty meat? I have a T1 taming pen on Siptah and I use shadespiced fatty meat. I normally get 1-3 greaters per every batch of 5 kittens. There was only once that I got no greaters.
I got 6 shade spice in a vault and used that for 6 of them. The rest raw pork. I’ve now got a freezer full of 13 or so normal Sabertooths. Weird. Guess I will give it one more go of four. Really weird.
Try with exotic flesh, I used that with my kitten and got a greater
Um, yes, I’m on single player and got one. I got mine on the first try in fact. Wasn’t even looking for one. Just saw the kitten as I was passing through, stuck him in the pen planning to use him as a decoration or something, and got a Greater Sabertooth.
The food I used? Feral flesh, which has a 3% chance of producing a greater sabertooth.
Having less success with wolves though. And I still haven’t managed to find either a baby croc or a friken normal grey elephant yet, though it seems like the elephants may in fact be a summoned surge only item.
Thanks everyone. I will be making a run over to the other side of the island again. I’ll try using exotic flesh this time.
Is there any chance that the food tables for taming have changed?
