I did lvl 5. purge today and it was a big difference compared to lvl 4. All purges before spawned kinda far away from my base. The lvl. 5 spawned much closer, right next to my base on the cliff, and enemy archers started to attack my fighters from above.
This resulted in my thralls randomly separating from the group, running away a going for solo actions (to take out the archers), instead of defending the coffer building. Few of those died because they’ve become surrounded and staggered by hits to death. The rest who survived had roughly half of HP left and less.
I am not really sure how to deal with this. All my fighters are T4 in best gear, most of them lvl 10 and more, all have the best legendary weapons, but when they separate from the defending group, their tier and gear often won’t matter, since they would get surrounded and staggered too easily.
I was trying to help my thralls with fighting the best I could, but with so many troops running around it gets really chaotic. I would like to have some strategy which would prevent unnecessary dying of my fighter thralls, since purge lvl 5 (average?) imo should not be that hard for the best thralls in best gear.
Do you guys have any ideas? What is your best strategy?
This does not have anything to do with the level. Ive had this happen with level 2 and 3 purges as well. The purge bases spawn just a few feet from my base cause me to aggro not only the archers but also the 3 spearmen inside the camp.
Ive lost 4 T4 thralls to this lol. Its pretty sucky when it happens but I have not been told if this is a bug or working correctly.
This is all you need to do a max level purge. Don’t even bother trying to build a defensive base or maze as the NPCS get stuck in them constantly and it ends up making the purge take 3x-5x longer. You can easily solo up to like threat level 6 with good gear. For a max level purge you need around 7-8 BIS geared accursed thralls or better.
Honestly doing it any other way is a complete waste of time as the rewards are absolute dog droppings. Also the rewards for purge level 8-10 are exactly the same the only difference is how many enemies it sends at you. Theres no reason to do above an 8 unless you just WANT to.
You want it low (when i say low I mean like medium or below, medium is best) because if the camp spawns in front of your base its possible a thrall or two gets pulled into the camp and surrounded by waves that spawn. This is about the only way a thrall can die using this strategy. So make sure you respond to this immediately and if you need to, pull em out of the fight for the rest of the purge. At 15 distance they dont tend to stray too far from the platform (most of the fighting takes place on it)
Just dont forget to change both attack and chase distance
True, but the thralls will still be distracted by these archers and jerk back and forth.
Perhaps you need to consider the option of placing in advance, in front of the place where the FOB appears, a column with ceilings, on which to place a couple of your strong archers, who would start a shootout with the Stygian archers and kill them. Or the player himself will do this, if the situation on the battlefield allows.
For this purpose, I myself am now preparing a couple of Brute cannibals with a 100% chance of increasing ranged damage.
Never had any issues with the stygian archers nor would I ever waste my time using archer thralls. As I said in a previous post, if one gets pulled out and gets surrounded (Which does happen from time to time) all you need to do is pull them out of the fight manually.
I’ve done around 30+ X level purges on officials, even with the extreme lag and connection issues and thralls teleporting… I have yet to lose a thrall or even get halfway close to losing one.
@Obsidious , I have a slightly off-topic question for you. I looked at your screenshot above - you have a luxurious chest, a treasurer in Stygian vestments. I saw the same skins several times in streams. But I have other, more primitive skins, and an accountant in a simple Shemitic outfit.
There are a few ways.
All are (as others mentioned), resource wise, wasteful.
We do not profit from the Purge, some of those rescues from cages are good, some time uniques, especially named bearers and dancers.
But the boxes rarely pay for the repairs.
This one suggests, for higher tier purges, something of a maze with an open top. Use your own archers, well Armoured, to distract their archers. The Purge likes to go after doors, so put several along the path. As already mentioned, keep melee combatants on a very short leash.
If you are going to get in the mix, use a good AoE weapon.
Greatsword, Mace or Axe and Shield.
Something with wide arches and knockdown.
You will get mobbed.
Spear+Hammer+Sword is what this one frequently gets swamped with. Spears stutter, hammers sunder, swords knock down. Such an annoyance.
If you have ever played a tower defense game, it’s not dissimilar.
Weapons that poison my help you.
The Headhunters throw explosives, so perhaps you can use poison or tar shenanigans. This one hasn’t tried yet.
Yes, it’s a scroll that gives you a feat. I got Elite Stygian raider armor set, burning siege cauldron and stygian infantry ration(a food item). I don’t know how many there are, but there are new feats to loot from the purge.
Yes, I also received all this for the X purge… and also some kind of cauldron repair kit, if I’m not mistaken. But there was no chest skin and no accountant.
Thank you, we will carry out purges.
HAHA! this is what i do- no walls just the chest and an army of level capped thralls. Archers go up top somewhere where they can only be hit by arrows.Lesser thralls become archers- i use respec potions to boost their agility then give them stygian heavy
Set melee thralls to attack 50m and chase 50m - the camp WILL die, ill guarantee you that.
All melee are combined arms- i use all legendaries- spears, hammers, maces , axes and swords. Use effect weapons- bleed ,sunder, disease ,cripple etc.
I love epic battles, so I do like to build an army. It does make the purges “harder” because the enemy will definitely spawn more troops in each wave, but I’m all for it. I did get sick of this situation:
So after testing, I found this “kill corridor” concept very much to my liking. The archers on the side grab a lot of attention, but are hardly in any danger. I then draw enemies at my leisure into the courtyard where they are greeted by my battle hardened killers:
This is on a private server, Savage Wilds mod. Lots of flat-ish land out front for an attack base to spawn, and I used the extra foundations out front to make sure that if they plopped on my doorstep, it wouldn’t automatically pull my ground troops to their deaths.
Thanks to the new revamped and ingenious purge design having less thralls will actually makes purge much more manageable and there is no reward available from any level of Purge that can justify loosing even one level 20 thrall
As for strategy - you could refer to this guy - he is quite creative at base designs
P.S. And in case you are only in for the rewards - don’t bother doing level X as it has basically the same loot as level VIII, while beeing much harder (or longer, depends on how you perceive it).
