Hogwarts Legacy - Instanced Building System

I am very impressed with Hogwarts Legacy in general. It’s got a building system in it as well. I think Conan Exiles could benefit from exploring some of the ideas and concepts and then perhaps implementing them their own way.

What I want?

I want a small cave or crater instance I can build in. One without a decay timer. One that would then prohibit me or clan members from building elsewhere. This would be a choice I would make just to avoid the decay timer. Base could still be raided on PvP servers, and visited by any random player. The key here is that for each of these inhabited instances, you guarantee a small footprint and ultimately less load in the main world. The goal being that you could then implement other game play features.

H.L. is doing a lot right. I know you can’t just copy/paste features into your game, but give it a look. I think C.E. could benefit from some of this stuff.

You did just introduce magic after all.

Adding instances to a game with no instanced areas wouldn’t improve loading at all; in fact it’d make it run worse. This game isn’t built for that setup

So you’re saying that you want each player to build in the same cave… so instanced as in… per player…
Then you also say that these could be raided via pvp… how? aim the catapult at the instance portal? :stuck_out_tongue:
Am I understanding correctly though that this is what you’re asking for? an instanced part of the world that would be unique to every character?..
That will probably never happen, it’s more of a MMO thing.

Essentially if we take off all the decoration, I am getting the impression that what you’re saying is that you basically dislike the decay system :man_shrugging:

Correct me if I’m misunderstanding, but it sounds like how a home can be bought in an mmo by multiple players but the interior loads differently depending on the person. If that’s the case, then no thank you, i do not want a feature like this.

I don’t see instancing being something that is needed nor warranted. The maps are large enough as it is that players can play on a server together and not run into each other unless they schedule a meeting over discord.

If you’re worried about decay timers, try changing your server settings.

Yep, in complete agreement. Works with that game as its map is comparatively minute.

Certainly doesn’t embrace the core tenets of the Conan genre though of pillage, plunder, defend, create a kingdom, lose it and create another, etc. I cannot see the hacking, slaying, jiggling, spattering of Conan Exiles plugging into the pastural nature of that game very well

Great ideas pop up out of most games and I am sure Devs of all game platforms do think about using some of them where practical and copyright-possible. I do like the multipe layering of tasks and achievements I have seen in some streamings of that particular game - hang on…when is the new achievement system dropping?

I nice idea though @GodisGood - thanks for posting.

An instance that multiple players can zone into is not that complicated. Not a popular opinion though. Oh well.

ngl it’s a good idea. But it also means changing some of the best features completely, which means it’ll make CE not CE, and people bought the game because it’s CE.
They can put this in the new Conan game, but then it’ll have a different player base than ours.

Tbh, long ago in this forum I asked for points of Terra forming in the map. I 'd love to have basements on my builds.
The map as it is has few places that you can fix something like basement!
Still i can understand how difficult and tricky can be, so i just left the idea as “wrong”.

When My daughter introduced me to this game two months ago, she knew this old lady could not handle decay timers. I love building. She knew I would love this game. She rented a small server for our family and friends and turned off decay. I completely understand your want of an instanced place. I would too if I were playing on official servers. I am grateful they allow for private servers. I have fallen madly in love with this game and for more than its housing. I hope you get some positive feedback from your post.

Elaborate further on that, please.

Tell us how implementing instanced locations into a game that has zero instanced locations in it currently, even the dungeons, wouldn’t be complicated.

Do you have hard numbers ready to show potential server strain? Where would the instanced world data be stored?

Well the concept is much like how they ran the guild bases in Age of Conan. There were only three locations that you could build a clan base in, and a limit of (I think) 4 “spots” per location. However, each of these 3 locations had and unknown number of instances (honestly it could have been unlimited though I doubt that would ever be necessary) and people could visit one another’s guild bases and what not.

HOWEVER! As you pointed out this game is not instanced like an MMO is and thus randomly tossing something like that into here would by no means be simple and would likely have a wide range of ramifications. This is likely the reason why Funcom has not explored the idea of doing this to this day even though they have experience doing such with AoC. An MMO and a Sandbox Survival game are just two completely different things and what works for one does not mean it will work for the other.
