Horses and the game

,

Im struggling here… Mounts have been added in Dec 5, 2019. That is 7 months ago, a long, long loooong time ago. For all this time mounts were completely ignored by most players. I decided to give it a try, trained and became skilled virtual rider. I always posted how fun and different mounted combat felt, but people literally didnt care about horses. Everybody (PvP or PvE) was still running with Demi God thralls, watching TV shows while their follower was literaly beating the game for them. 14K HP / 1K armor thralls that could solo the game, but that was ok, “it was balanced”.

As far as I know, for all this time horse mechanics have not changed drastically, or changed at all. Saddles, damage, charge, weapon limitations, mobility… its all the same. People choose to keep their super hero thralls rather than a mount. But now thralls got nerfed, riders were given the opportunity to also bring a follower and suddenly… 7 months later, with no mechanics change, guess whats happened?? Mounts broke the game!! Its “Unplayable” as some say.

Im honest here, could somebody please explain me what exactly is unbalanced? All I see are PvPers complaining about a mechanic that exist for almost a year, saying its OP, demanding nerfs that are sole focused in PvP, ignoring the fact most these suggestions would literally make horses not viable anymore, not even in PvE. What also puzzles me is the fact PvPers are always focused in finding means or tactics to become more efficient, 7 months have passed since Riders of Hyboria, horse mechanics have not changed since, how come horses didnt break the game before? If they are so overpower, so unbalanced, so gamebreaking as people claim… how come nobody realized that 7 months ago??

Actually… something has changed, it was not the damage, not the cripple, not the charge… Riders can now bring thralls…It seems like, as usual, thralls are in the center of balance problem. It looks to me like horses are not the only problem here, sure, they could be tweaked, Im not saying its a perfect mechanic, but for almost a year people literally found horses worthless, until they could bring their beloved thralls along them.

How to “fix” this problem? Im not sure, is there a real problem there or adaptation process? But its certainly not the 1.5x damage, not the cripple, not the stamina, it has always been there, why is it suddenly a problem now? Not allowing riders to have followers again is also not a good approach either, I barely see PvE raiders, that would make them inexistent again.

This is not a “solution” neither a “suggestion” topic, you can post yous but thats not the debate m proposing here. Im simply showing there is more into the matter than saying “Horses are OP and broke the game… 7 months later”

The story for me is, I started playing just recently, like 1-2 weeks ago. And the first thing I noticed, is that using a horse gives you so many advantages, making it “OP”. Hence my posts here.

I also researched a bit, and learned that after the mounts update, there was this mace META, where you could kill someone in epic flawless heavy armor with ~3-4 hits within 2 seconds. I am pretty sure horses were just food for it, since you could probably knock people off so quickly.

Next to and after the mace META was also this issue with bows. I heard people were only running around with 40 ACCURACY and bows, killing each other quickly, because of an armor penetration bug. Same applies here, I guess horses were just food.

I don’t know when Funcom fixed these issues, but as I know Funcom, 7 months is actually an average time frame for them to fix such problems. So no one really used horses in that time period, because there were stronger META builds.

I apologize if this sounds harsh, but if you make a whole post centered around one assumption, maybe you should research that assumption first.

It’s true that people didn’t complain about the balance of mounted combat immediately after they were released. These things take some time. But it’s not true that they waited 7 months to start complaining. There are complaints dating back to March. Maybe even earlier, but I did only a cursory search in the General Discussion forum and that’s the earliest complaint I could find in the 5 minutes I dedicated to it.

Now that this was shown to be false, maybe we can transform the topic into a discussion about mounted combat balance
