Feedboxes went away and you no longer have to feed your pets. However, I heard that if you DO feed them they get a bonus. But how do you feed them?
We took the feedbox out because the pets were eating through it rapidly and just storing the food on their inventory (they would fill up all their slots with food).
But they never eat it. I can place a stack of meat on my wolf pet, but the stack never decays and the pet never eats any of it.
Pets and thralls no longer need to eat and all food placed in them will be consumed and used as an attack buff so best not to use them as transportation for foods.

Pets don’t eat any food placed on them. I can place food on them no issue, they don’t eat it, it doesn’t spoil.

I have read reports that some mods prevented thralls/pets from eating as intended when the hunger system was introduced.

And I answered to the best of my knowledge, which is when I put food on my pets they eat the whole darn thing in seconds. But I am on ps4 so perhaps @Kwalya is correct in that a mod may be conflicting with your pets.

I see abit more topics about thrall pot and food on pets/thralls being insatntly devoured. rare they don’t consume it like crack addicts. XD
PLaying on our own dedicated server. The server still has the values for things like pet food system and restricted diet even though they no longer show in the in game gui…
The pets were eating just fine under the old system with the 3 mods we have in (compass, minimap, and fashionista mod). We don’t play with any real game altering mods.
And yes giving them the right food, as I said a stack of meat on a wolf (which should eat any meat although pork will give the best bonus according to the new system).
We’ll try stripping out the mods and replacing them one by one, that’s a good suggestion.
Edit: I started up a single player game with those three mods still installed, and the pet ate a stack of food instantly… I could see no increase in hp or anything when he ate it though, is there any visible marker that he is buffed?
Still odd our dedicated server is stuck doesn’t seem to be the mods though.
You only see the preferred food buff when the thrall/pet is in combat … it’s a fist icon on their health bar.
We never see if they have the non-preferred food buff.
I play on an official PvE server and my thralls & pets do consume most food items instantly regardless of number of items put into their inventory. So I think it is probably a mod issue (ocassionally I see reports of mods affecting single player differently from server) or maybe a server setting.
(Note: I think there is a bug regarding plant fibre, vines and bark being consumed by pets - both as a preferred food item and non-preferred food item. I’ve reported this in detail a few days ago.)
Yep, ripped out the mods one by one and it was the fashionist mod. put it back, they don’t eat, take it out, they eat. My very favorite mod… I hate the way the armor I like to wear looks… hate it. I’d rather ditch the pet eating bonus that run in around in the disgusting looking armor that gives me the stat I want.
