How to Play The Secret World

Since the Launch of Secret World Legends, players have asked how they can play The Secret World again. This should be helpful if you’re looking to dust off your character in the old game.

  1. Log into your Funcom account.
  2. Use the drop down menu on the left to select your TSW Subscription.
  3. Beneath the “Download Game” link, click TSW LocalConfig
  4. Save this file into your Secret World Game Files(You WILL need to overwrite the existing file if prompted)
  5. Start the game normally.

Your game client will need to patch a bit. Once it is finished updating, you’ll be able to log into The Secret World as long as the severs are kept open.

How does it work for a new player? Is there any official way (don’t mean ebay or something) to still purchase a copy / get the key of TSW?

Keys are no longer sold through our official channels.

My personal suggestion would be that you play Secret World Legends, not The Secret World.

Thank you for the clarification here. I just had a friend telling me that even if one manages to get a key, there is no longer a possibility to even create an account for the old game. So maybe that’s a vital thing to point out here just in case.

In regards to you last statement: I am lucky enough to have both a TSW and an SWL account and I am more than grateful to have been given the chance to experience the original and that some kind soul still keeps the servers running.

That’s not exactly true. It is still possible to create an account for The Secret World with a Funcom key. It is not possible to make an account with a Steam key, and it may no longer be possible to get a Funcom key from your Steam key as “The Secret World” no longer appears in the Steam client.

That is good to hear, really. Thanks for the answer!

I do realize there’s topics a person knows more about and another one knows less. Even in means of official staff. I’m not going to be a snitch, I have seen the mail of my friend and it did state exactly what I wrote earlier. All I’m saying is, that I think it is important that in certain things there shouldn’t be multiple “truths” around. I highly appreciate your clarification in that regard.

Can you elaborate how one goes about doing this?
I have both TSW and TSW:L game accounts active. Want my wife to be able to play TSW with me, but cant find a key!! :frowning:

Without a key there is sadly no creating a TSW account. Funcom no longer sell keys for TSW, and trying to get one from elsewhere, means you are running the risk of it not working as a key.
