I think the pet rebalancing the devs mentioned a long, long time ago needs to be attempted first. Then we can focus on pet breeding. I think pets should become more viable alternatives to human thralls, being at least 70% as powerful as the hardest hitting thralls. Perhaps their survivability can be drastically improved if not their damage, so they will never reach the dps of T4 fighters.
Make them better at PVE and worse at PVP, so that pvpers won’t demand yet another pet nerf.
I would even suggest making pets the ultimate pve companions since they can’t be knocked down like human thralls while fighting bosses such as Rockslide.
Yeah, she was in the book. Pretty faithfully depicted in the movie, too, compared to many major characters who got turned into comic relief. But compared to some of his contemporary authors, such as Agatha Christie, Tolkien was indeed quite conservative with female characters.
Tolkien was a wonderful creator of worlds and mythologies (even though he did plagiarize a lot), but as a writer of prose, not exactly brilliant. He definitely deserves major credit for bringing fantasy to mainstream popular culture, but he’s not my favorite author by a large margin.
That’s a pretty good description of how I feel, too. Except I don’t think they write male characters to be played by actresses - I think they just write sexless characters.
Peter O’Donnell’s Modesty Blaise, written in the early 1960s, is another great example of how a strong female character who feels like a woman should be done. Of course, part of what makes Modesty Blaise so special for me is because she’s a rarity among female protagonists. But she never became the big hit she could’be been because she was ~40 years ahead of her time. (And the last book alienated many fans, unfortunately.)
For computer RPGs, it seems the Japanese are better at writing female characters than Westerners - although for every well-written Japanese female protagonist there are a zillion fan service objects.
This is true. This is also why manga murdered homemade comics in the US. Japanese comics hold 91% of US market. I am from Central/Eastern Europe and when I was a kid here in the 80s and 90s it was all Marvel, DC and Dark Horse Comics. Now it’s hard to find these, we have artistic comics like various Conan series or Slaine etc, indie comics, and beside this Manga is ruling everywhere.
Why did Japanese comics conquer the world? - good stories, great characters which you’re going to remember whole life, and no woke nonsense. Majority of people reject woke culture war, comics or Disney’s results show that.
People expect to be entertained at the peak quality of entertainment instead of being lectured and brainwashed with copy/paste woke nonsense.
