I suggest a breeding system

Hello, a good idea would be to implement a breeding system for all types of animals, where when wild animals are captured they can be paired with each other. Giving these a puppy with different statistics.
If these two animals are colossal, the son would be more likely to be colossal.
These may have the statistics distributed in a different way.

Greetings.

When I started reading this I had high expectations … then I found out it’s about animals.
Not interested, sorry.

Maybe go play Sims. There are no children in Conan and I doubt that’s going to change any time soon.

I don’t think anyone is debating on whether children hypothetically exist and that slaves for the Giant Kings were encouraged to procreate.

The issue is whether that has any place in the game mechanics. If this was to become a full life sandbox (be born, grow old, die) where you can move through generations, a lot of changes would need to be made to accommodate a completely different style of game (it becomes a life sim instead of a survival game).

Can children run around Exiled Lands, can you capture them like baby animals? Possibly kill them, even if accidentally?

How do anticipate breeding humans to work? Stick two thralls in a pen, leave the female in their until gestation is complete and then BOOM, another fully grown thrall?

And that’s all aside from the grossness of forced breeding. How about no.

Man I was just joking … but, speaking of things:

And that’s all aside from the grossness of forced breeding. How about no.

Conan Exiles is set in the world of Conan the BARBARIAN, not Conan the politically correct gentleman
Ra*e IS a thing in this environment.

Again, I’m not talking about whether it exists in the time period. But that doesn’t mean it needs to become a game mechanic.

Age of Breeding NOW!

Breeding cages for Thralls are lore friendly.

How about we get back to discussing animal husbandry before this thread get locked for being inappropriate.

Some things don’t need to be added into games, no matter how realistic or thematical it would be.

when the source material is too inappropriate for discussion that is when you have truly lost the plot.

They should filter it out automatically so US players can see people getting cut with chainsaws instead of nude boobs.

I hate when Howard’s novels, roleplaying games and other things get remade and censored because it’s inappropriate for current political trends (which may change tomorrow). It’s like living in some police state dystopia where words and thoughts are controlled.
Like they are removing the word “exotic” from RPGs and novels, because calling some unknown distant civilization “exotic” is a racist word now
For me it’s take it or leave it, you don’t like Conan universum, go play Dungeons and Dragons, or other Unicorns & Rainbows.

That’s an interesting discussion and I agree, but probably it’s not the place to talk about it.

But if you ask me, conan is already a 18+ game: sex, death and stuff should be ok … don’t know the current laws, but … guys, we go round the map murdering people and taking slaves !

Is really ra*e and some sex the worst thing at this point ?

Language and writing were also made available, the poetry of Khitai, the philosophy of Sung; and he also came to know the pleasures of women, when he was bred to the finest stock. But, always, there remained the discipline of steel.

And it’s curious to see how that has changed with the times. In the 1990s the game and its settings were sexist, racist and otherwise bigoted. These days, elves and orcs can make babies together (which used to be biologically impossible in old lore) and it’s entirely socially acceptable, even if the elf and orc are a same-sex couple.

In the process of getting rid of racial stereotypes and prejudices (or imaginary races, so who was offended in the first place if dwarves hated orcs?) they also got rid of unique racial cultures and societies, and turned everyone into humans with different physiological features.

Robert E. Howard’s works got away with a lot of stuff because he wrote the stuff he wrote in the 1930s, when our Western culture was still very different from what it is now. And no, I would not want to see those works censored or edited to become socially acceptable for the 2020s (even though Red Nails would probably have more overtly lesbian themes) because they represent the time and age when they were written.

But there’s no need to go to extreme lengths in derivative works. Just because we don’t see all of the brutalities in Conan Exiles doesn’t mean those don’t exist in the game world. You can freely imagine doing stuff with your entertainer thralls, without need to make it into a game feature. I remember with some fondness the “sex scenes” in Divinity: Original Sin 2, where the characters were just standing in their underwear facing each other, and a male narrator narrated the scene in a matter-of-fact tone. As a player, I knew what had happened between the two characters (in considerable detail) even though I didn’t see it happen. From a narrative perspective there was no need to animate the whole deal.

If you want to make an adult movie in Conan Exiles, I suggest you get creative with emotes. I mean, I did build a brothel in my Exiled Lands town a couple of years ago:

Agreed it would be great if there was more of a farming system where you could raise livestock for food purposes.

Don’t take me wrong, I totally agree with this.

I was just saying that I wouldn’t feel bad if Conan Exiles had sexually explicit themes… or, even better, I was trying to say it’s a bit illogic to strongly go against these themes while in the whole game you basically kill (brutally) everything you come across.

Just to point out how stupid this society is: killing people, murdering animals, that’s totally fine … but hey, don’t you dare to put some sexual stuff in this game or people get offended

They are unneded, totally agree.
But to strongly oppose to these stuff … I think it’s a bit illogic, that’s it.

ALSO, do consider that those games/movies/series that offer extremely immersive experience are widely appreciated. Look at Game of Thrones …

Details are what makes a game really great.
That said: yes, we have more serious problems to solve :joy:

I has not changed, it WAS changed. When you dig and do some research you’re going to find out all these TTRPG studios, game studios, tv stations are owned by the same few billionaires who try to control and create culture to make us all equally enslaved.

In the 1990s the game and its settings were sexist, racist and otherwise bigoted.

I did not find them sexist back then but yes it had more realism and flavour.

Even in Howard’s novels women are often main heroes and important NPCs (Belit) which was unheard of in his times when women were basically enslaved in the kitchens and bedrooms. He based Hyborian Age cultures on actual existing cultures to some extent, but it’s kind of realistic not racist. If one get’s butthurt because his ancestors are portrayed as savages running around nude, then he needs to cope, as every culture had started like this.

Tolkien on the other hand did the same thing, but in a completely different way, also there was not even single one female in LOTR, they made them up in the movies and removed several important male characters like Tom Bombadil.

These days, elves and orcs can make babies together (which used to be biologically impossible in old lore) and it’s entirely socially acceptable, even if the elf and orc are a same-sex couple.

These days science has to bow before politics.

In the process of getting rid of racial stereotypes and prejudices (or imaginary races, so who was offended in the first place if dwarves hated orcs?) they also got rid of unique racial cultures and societies, and turned everyone into humans with different physiological features.

Exactly what I wrote before, the owners of these franchises force this upon us.

It’s already happening, Howard was cancelled and latest TTRPG was remade… They created a quiet second edition which removes the word “exotic” in description of Khitans. I’m sure Cimmerians saw Khitans as exotic and it was also the other way around. Does this word sound derogatory?
Who’s the zealot behind this change? Well it’s easier to find out who had bought out the company which makes that TTRPG.

We want that virtual reality or not? There is a great mod Devious Desires for Conan that allows to have sex with other players and thralls + it brings in 1000 other emotes including face expressions etc that are very handy for RP.
We had some fun with the mod (of course we experimented with sex scenes) but it grows old quickly and everyone returned to normal playing. Including sex in vanilla Conan would probably be a big deal for younger teenagers and soccer moms.

But again why is it normal to show violence and why is it taboo to show women’s breasts etc?
I think it comes from ancient religious orders where women were treated as property and told to cover themselves.
I’m in Europe and for example in my country women are encouraged to breastfeed in the open, on the streets or in public transport… Because it’s normal thing for a mother to feed the baby and it should not be branded improper. And they eventually did start to breast feed in the streets and it’s cool with me.

You need to have an Inn, a Blacksmith and a brothel in every self respecting fantasy town :joy:

Yeah I support that. Very cool

The dystopic futures of Cyberpunk 2020 etc. predicted a world run by megacorporations, but those were always the heavy industry, energy industry or weapons industry, with their private armies. The real 2020s dystopia bad guys are entertainment companies like Disney and Hasbro (and of course, Microsoft, Google and Meta) who don’t need private armies because we want to love them.

Yeah. Howard’s “Sword Woman” looks like it was written in today’s “woke” culture, and would be a strong contender for a Hugo award if it had been written this decade. Very underappreciated, when most Howard critics love to point out the obviously sexualized stories which Howard wrote in order to pay his mother’s hospital bills, as he knew the publisher would be more likely to publish stuff with nude women in it.

Red Sonya of Rogatino (in Shadow of the Vulture) and Valeria (Red Nails) were strong, independent warrior women, too. Sure, Valeria got her “damsel in distress” moments but redeemed herself pretty well in the end. Conan himself was saved by women in multiple occasions, most famously Zenobia in The Hour of the Dragon. Bêlít is somewhat more questionable, she was more worshiped like a goddess of sex than served as a pirate captain - but she was still a character who was obviously in control, even if the weapons she used weren’t swords (or, I guess “swords” were what gave her the power over her followers that she had…)…

But in Tolkien’s defense, please let’s not forget Eowyn from Lord of the Rings. She may not have been a major point-of-view character, but she did play a major role.

Ah yeah people with blue hair who never had sex think lusting for women is bad. And they think women don’t like to be obsessed about. Sexualization of women? Just look at social media, women have always used their looks to manipulate us weak minded barbarians :joy:

The problem of woke movies and games is that makers/writers don’t understand that female nature is different than male nature and strong woman can be still strong while remaining a woman.
Instead they write male characters but employ actresses to play the role, the result is odd and cringe like in Disney’s Star Wars for example.
This is why strong females from old books or movies from the 80s are legendary today, because they were strong women and did not have to act like guys to be strong.

Eowyn from Lord of the Rings

Wow, was she in the books? :joy: I thought she was one of these made up characters created for the movies. Last time I read LOTR I was still in elementary school and I found it boring as hell :joy:
I worship David Gemmel, Gleen Cook, Howard and such authors. Tolkien is cool and magical, but when I am on page 52 and they are still preparing the birthday party for Bilbo… it’s was not for me
