IMO the game need a compass or a minimap.
It would be nice with a compass in the top of the screen where u can see which direction ur bed/bedroll is and a marker which u can set on the map.
Or a minimap in the top right corner could work too…
This way you wont have to open the map all the time to see which way to go…
I agree with the compass idea since if you were a person living in that world, you would know North/South/East and West based on the Sun/shadows, knowing your landscapes, etc. It would pretty much be intuitive for one who travels often.
Although the compass would only work outdoors in that regard.
Sadly the Sun doesn’t rise on the East, and moon shadows are between you and the Moon, so nagivating based on them is a baaad idea. I always wanted a craftable compass (some glass and some iron bar).
I think a minimap violates the spirit of the game, but a compass seems reasonable, especially since you can already go to the map and get your heading (kind of implying you already know which way you are facing and have to pull out your map and check the landscape). However, how would a compass be different than that? Would it snap you to first person and show you a handheld compass or would it just show a north marker on the HUD? I think a handheld compass is now one more thing for your hotbar and a HUD marker is just kinda tacky…
It should just be an option to enable as part of the GUI, one that shows what direction you are going. The number of times this would save people a minor headache is uncountable. Even if that headache is a small one, it would still be nice to know you are headed the correct direction without having to open your map. (Say it’s night time, and you are dragging a thrall or something through unfamiliar territory)
I keep wanting them to add a place able sundial we can’t just carry in our inventory or set up at our base
I love the idea of the mini map. I don’t know if I will use it in exile lands but in Siptah for sure. And I think it would help new players a lot. For compass I don’t care at all, but I wouldn’t mind if we could have, so I support this too.
@Halk , This did not cross my mind and I totally agree. The lost on wilderness thing brings savage feelings, necessary for a survival game. Especially when you are hunted by npcs or animals and you don’t have the opportunity to stop and open your map to see where you are, you know, Mr Saber wait a bit I have to check my map please, don’t bite now, good boy . This exactly reason was a necessity for me to learn the biggest part of the map by heart. I still get disoriented some times but mostly nights, in a day light not any more. In Siptah on the other hand, I lost track almost all the time
.
I’ve got to admit, I’m in the compass-yes, minimap-no category. Having played some AC games (which use a minimap), I’m not entirely a fan. I guess it makes it seem too easy, lol (especially if it marks npcs as well - never be surprised again…), and like darthphysicist says, it feels to me like it’s wrong for this game. But something like a compass or heading marker would certainly help sometimes. (I used to use a mod that added a compass alongside temp/encumbrance etc - found that helped a bit with just making sure I’m going the rough direction I want to - but I think that broke when mounts were introduced…) I don’t get lost much on Exiled Lands any more, but Siptah (and Savage Wilds) I found I was constantly having to check the map because the terrain had forced me to turn off course.
But, as always with these things, I can see both being good introductions, provided they come with on/off options for those who prefer not to have them.
I think the idea of a craftable compass is great. Maybe implemented as a special feat learned from some old stone carvings. It sure feels like something not every average savage can learn by themselves. Just a nifty little thing you hold in your hand to display a little compass icon under your healthbar or somewhere else, as long as it is in use, would be sweet.
I personally don’t want either the mini map or a compass on screen.
That being said I do support their additions as long as players can turn them off
I mean, they could have given us a map like they have in ARK. What an amazingly not fun map. Hard to use and you have to pull out a torch to even see it in the dark. Immersively unfun.
You civilized people are soft. Compasses and mini maps? You don’t need those. They just make you weak. Use those and the next thing you know you’re actually stopping to ask someone for directions.
Besides, by now regular players know the whole map by heart any way XD
Maybe a compass could be something you can craft.
But did they have those in the world of Conan? Short of being something magical, I mean.
I still get lost at times and could see easily getting lost in the jungles at points.
Ivse seen something like this on a private server and it will be very usefull in official ones
I swear it is easier for me to navigate in the jungle at night, than in the surrounding forests at mounds of the dead!
Well yeah. That’s why you either wait till it’s light or pull out a torch. Also trying to spin around that fast in the dark IRL is equally as helpful as it is in game.
A craftable compass would be amazing… but i don’t think having the ui with a compass included would be beneficial.
Also, i want to add that having a free and fully discovered map from the begining of the game goes against the genre of the game, and for some reason you can even see where player’s has already built their t3 shrines… much survival, wow
If, in order to have access to the map, you have to craft it first AND it only shows the areas you’ve discovered, That would add a lot of immersion and difficulty to the game. imo would be more fun this way.
After all, is not as if the map changes from server to server, so map knowledge is still a thing.
