Impossible to knock out (certain?) T4 fighter thralls with wooden truncheon

Yes, I started the game more than once, also on different servers. One of the first things I always do is to get one of exactly these thralls as soon as I can.

And to be honest, playing with these thralls is much more entertaining than watching dalinsia ripping through the unnamed city with the player standing aside and waiting to grab the loot…

So, I’m not arguing with that, I totally agree  I said if you’re a low lv, you should knock out each and every thrall within that area. They should not be killed with wooden truncheon under any circumstances. Because that tool is meant exactly for knocking thralls out, not killing. The only determining factor has to be - number of hits.

I also have knocked out a number of T4 fighters there at around level 15. It had taken me quite a while to do using the truncheon and a shield but they were always my first thrall companions. I had never had an issue with them being killed until I started a new game post patch. The way I see it, if you weren’t supposed to knock them out at lower levels with lower level tools, why would they be there? If I had to wait until the iron truncheon at level 30ish to knock out a T4, I would be moving on to something higher and not bother with the lower level T4s making them pointless.

He should be able to make blunt weapon fitting to help. Dos help a bit.

Try this one! You can craft that from level 21 on:

I’m having the same problem using an iron truncheon in single player, can’t knock out a t4 exiled before I kill him/her. If its the low health that is the issue, then why bother with exile named crafters at all?

You can kill simple low level thralls on the river with the starter truncheon, I myself have reported it months ago it was happening and it has not changed. Not every time but if you are not careful and back off and let the thrall level up you can kill them easy. Its been a bug for a long time. Entry level truncheon should never kill entry level thrall that is not a design and if it is its a bad one. As this is a bug report would think maybe someone from the company this bug is reported to should answer sooner or later. So Funcom @hugo is this a bug or design???

The point is, he doesnt care about your point. You make more dmg with the wooden truncheon and therefore kill the T4.

And its logical for him

@Crossforge because Maelstrom88 said its LOGICAL! No T4 thralls for low levels!! /sarcasm

Lvl 24 char - 0 str - Wooden Truncheon - no blunted fitting - vanilla singleplayer no mods, x1 rates:

RMB attacks only (no shield blocking) - you will knock the thrall down before it dies.

LMB attacks only which do less concussive damage than RMB by design (no shield blocking) - you will kill the thrall before you knock it down.

Another example but with a crafter (success with both light and heavy attacks):

Conclusion: You won’t be able to knock down certain thalls with light attacks only when using the basic truncheon with no blunted fitting or str perks. Use heavy attacks instead when clubbing your new friends until you can get better tools (blunted javelin light attacks + shield is a great alternative).

Bonus note: There is a glitch if you hold ctrl (block) while you are using a truncheon, at some point you would start doing health damage instead of concussive damage. If that happens, you have to let go of the ctrl key and stop attacking for a moment to clear the issue.

You’re right that it’s still possible to knock out these thralls with the wooden truncheon if you use the heavy attack AND you don’t have a thrall that ‘supports’ you.
But that’s no news, in fact if you scroll up some entries (number 10) you can read exactly this.

Unfortunately for you, I do actually care about the point he was making. I was rambling for a while, and I only then realized what Jantho was talking about when I hit my post limit. You can see this in this thread.

Also, you don’t ‘make’ more damage, nor do you ‘deal’ more damage with a wooden truncheon. It deals X knockout damage, and T4 Exiles have more knockout resistance than health, so it just kills them all. Continue reading, please.

Look, never knew they were possible to knock out before, I saw this thread, went and killed them, thought it was normal from the knowledge I have. I want you to understand I didn’t stay on the noob river for 20 something levels. I never touched Exile T4s, by the time I was level 24, I was after Black Hand. I don’t go straight after Snowhunters and Berserkers, but I also don’t recruit from the lowest faction. Someone with three times my hours knows more, fair. I get that. Again, just for you jot, I understand now.

Clearly funcom have made T4s more resilient to knockout, as I heard bosses were made stronger. I agree it’s a bug or something they overlooked. I see no other reason why this was happening. Truncheons seem to be untouched. Until they fix it, you need to make a blunted javelin at level 21, it’s better than a steel truncheon.

I’ve killed that drunken lout at least 50x since I started my private server and he still has yet to drop one for me. Had to trade with other players for the ones I’ve got. :unamused:

I am sorry but RMB will kill a thrall same as the left mouse button. New game no mods, vanilla settings, single player, I leveled normal no console, made the wooden truncheon by doing it the same way I would have did it in my modded game. I leveled enough to create a tanner and made leather so could make the starter wooden truncheon. I used no attributes at all so none of them in any way could interfere in this process. I did use some of my journey steps to help me level above level 10 but am still as you can see using starter tools.

After spending some time looking for a named crafter, I did spawn in Valenso Da Reyn is a named, Tier 4 [Tanner] Valenso Da Reyn is a named, Tier 4 Tanner of the Black Hand Faction

I used only the RMB for the full trial and killed the named thrall before I could knock him out. This has been an issue with using this Wooden Truncheon for a while and has been reported more then once by me and others.

I am really sorry but your conclusion is wrong, we do and can kill them any way we use the Wooden Truncheon.

All I am saying is that I can’t reproduce it. I am not saying you are wrong in what you are seeing. There are bugs that some have and others don’t.

But even on yours, the damage was almost @ 90-95% of the bar. The fact you get even that close is preposterous. It should do 1 damage based on no stats (truncheon starts at 1). Even using no armor on the NPC for the dmg output calc, it would at most do aout 2.1 HPs per swing. So definitely a design flaw that a knock out weapon is not doing the main mechanic it was designed for.

I somewhat think that a level 10 tool is meant to be bad. You get a better one at lvl 21 (blunted javelin), by lvl 26 you get blunted fittings, by lvl 30 you get a better truncheon. The first few levels go really fast as well. I am not here to discuss whether it is a bug or not. I came to report my findings. If you honestly want my opinion, it is not even worth discussing a wooden truncheon, we have bigger issues

It’s worth to discuss, at least, for new potential players, who, when come, should be able knocking out all thralls within lowlv area. But not staying and being perplexed why thralls dying by the tool that’s meant doing only one job that is knocking people out.
