Is the guardian a good pick for PvP?

I dont see many around, and it seems from what ive heard that DTs bring more to the table both in leech and dps, and conqs bring more to the team.

Any point in going Guard instead of the other two for PvP?

Guardians run faster, has better weapon range, better mitigation, can use bubble while cc’d and land long combos that can crit really hard on soft targets, especially in frenzy stance recommanded if not flagboting.
Conq is more popular because it can stack the highest crit chance/weapon damage increase in game and dts because vom makes you able to burst down targets even while turtling in defensive stance.

That’s a very fast answer, there are ofc more details to this.

Well in a good group play guardian is amazing, and by far the best tank to pick flag with, as the flag penalty is not as big on it, because of long reach, passive cc resists, reach of weapon and ofc bubble that can be used while in CC.

Playing dt is extremely frustrating due to bad range, seems to have insanely bad hit rating and you will be perma cc:ed
Conq is the go to tank thou in pvp

What the other two said. It’s a solid, forgiving, very easy to play melee. It doesn’t have amazing damage anymore unlike the other two but it’s totally possible to get kills still. Including with the flag on your back, because yes, it has great weapon reach and CC resists + a tiny speed buff. Stance dancing is mandatory to do any damage but you have more than enough spare points to spec into guarded frenzy and cunning deflection + the passive armour & prot so it’s still not even that dangerous.

It really shines in proper teams because others will be debuffing targets for you as well as healing you (2 things guards can’t really do, by the way).

Do yourself a favor op. Do not roll a guardian for PVP. You will hate it.

Guardian doesn’t have a high damage? It’s joke.

Storm Strike 1,5-2,5k from two hits then reckoning on frenzy 1k-3k then instantly Bloody Vengeance ~700-2K and Disable feated in tree so you have next 1k-2k from fast combination.

Also if you are playing on counterweight you can fatality clothies from 50%hp, one time i did it from like 60-70%. Also one counterweight + reckoning can one shot people like sins, demos, necros.

You should remember guard have nice AA perk from AA named Prime Initiative. You can silence every CC’s when you want because you have control of that. If you see someone os casting stun, knockback, fear etc you only click on Prime on 75%-90% of cast and people are confused about that for 3 or more seconds.

Playing on Counterqeight:

  • counterweight is long combo 3,5 second casting
  • you are easy to target while doing this combination
  • you can one kill people from half of his hp
  • reckoning can crit up to 2,5-3k when you have featet CW in AA

Playing on Prime Initiative and using Flashing Arc 7 and 8:

  • guardian is much faster while using FA 7 and 8 so it’s harder to target and if you combine it with combo jumping you will be very dangerous
  • you can cut Cc’s when you want so killing people is easier (for me)
  • more frequent combinations combined with every white hits on target so you doing fast . damage and still good as on CW

I used to play on Counterweight but it’s not my playstyle, guard is too slow for me… For me it’s better to run with Prime Initiative on PvP.

no spam dmg like DT or auto dmg like conq, but a fair crit chance on the main combos and if you have a good bear shaman with you it’s totally beast.

feel like this class goes along the lines of “an aquired taste” for newcomers who never experienced it in its former glory. Counterweight may feel slow, but it’s a crazy combo if you abuse shield and have a debuffer with you like a BS. I can imagine with exiles rune a guard pulling off 7k fatalities very regularly. so theres that. lol

I can’t imagine CW with exile rune but one time i one shoted demo with one CW without reckoning. But for that you need T4 or T3 craft, now i have T3 but i’m doing my best on that. : / I spent a lot of time on CW but i changed playstyle, Prime giving me more fun.

Don’t listen to people telling you guardian sucks in PvP. The truth is there are very few good guards left in PvP. The only good ones that come to mind is lognam and tyyr on his guard.

Yes guard needs some buffs, they need a bleed, they need some sort of debuff. Like make intimidating shout apply a -10% phys debuff. Guards have a lot of crap and useless talents in their outdated feat trees.

That being said guards can absolutely annihilate some of the most troublesome classes in PvP (Sin,ranger,demo). I have copped 6k+ counterweight crits by geared guards against my demo.

One of the reasons that ppl prefer dt’s and conqs is because they can still annihilate players without having to stance dance. Guards big hits rely a lot more on going frenzy to pump out the damage which unfortunately leaves them a lot more vulnerable.

That being said guards have good survival ability, can hit like trucks and have that crazy range.

cmon u cant play guard solo( = pug minis) and u cant duel on guard cause u only have 1cc( i dont count this fear/stun cause anti-cc has less cd) and u have almost no dmg in def stance( mb exile rune can help),but if u have good team,guard will be fun for sure. IMO

Op asked if it was a good class for pvp, overall it’s not. end of story. Why do you think there are so few guards? Because only dummies and flagbots play them. Even fully geared pvp 10 guards with max aas are a joke. And forget about pvp with sword and shield. It’s horrible. This class needs a serious revamp that it’s never going to get.

I said guards need reworking and a buff. Unfortunately guards are a bad duelling class but they can still do well in pug minis with gear and a competent player. They can still annihilate clothes.

Conqs and DTS rely a lot less on stance dancing.

Lol I really can’t take what you say seriously because you lack the ability to read. No point in trying to be rational here anymore because you have already made up your mind.

Balacai used to absolutely destroy on his guard in minis and even used to laugh at how easily he ripped the heads of clothies.

I guess having polearm range doesn’t help if you only land 50% of your combos.

Guard needs a rework period but don’t exaggurate how weak they are because you have tunnel vision in PvP and try to duel the first person you see in minis.

Guard doing good on minis but polearm is forgotten and need to be fixed anyway. We have only few guarda with me in minis for today because the tree ia forgotten and it’s hard class for duels compared for rest two op tanks. The guard need little rebalance also for me the conq and dt need a little nerf for pvp.

I’m personally haven’t any single problem to get a kills and my guard have the best K\D ratio if comparise it with other toons on my account, but the biggest problem that u are must flagbotting 80% of pug minigames if u want to win it. It is just so boring.

Is not a problem to kill people on minis while the half of tree is not working well or forgotten. We can talk about buffing guardian but i think better way is to nerf the other tanks and fix this old tempest tree.

On the other side, Aett, guardian is the soldier which is least affected of snare effect carrying the flag, due to mini speed boost and ofc weapon range. A guard with flag can still get a lot of kills, DT on other hand will be affected much more by snare.

As you show guard can hit really high, but also suffers from big weapon dmg range of pole arms.

Guard is perfectly fine maybe if some of you stopped mindless flagbotting and focusing incorrect targets you might start to see some better results.
