I’m disappointed that I can mark my map, but my wife can’t see the marks I’ve made. We both frequently discuss map points of interest to each other when we play and mark waypoints for traveling, but we’re forced to rely on our own personal marks without the ability to share them and see each others’.
There must be a mod that does this, right? Could someone please refer me to it? Bonus points if it include a compass showing marks! I know CE is a meant to have a minimalist UI and I do appreciate that, but there are certain quality of life issues that have become so standard in these games, they really stick out when they’re missing.
We’re running our own private server so we’re both admins and don’t have any other players with us, so that’s not an issue.
I don’t know if it was Tot! Admin or Roleplay Redux, but one of them have an option to add custom map markers.
They’re visible for everyone and don’t need to be discovered first.
Maybe this will help you.
Pippi has warppoints you can place and admin can make them visible on the map for everyone on the server. I’m not sure about map markers in general. Maybe check it out?
There’s a pretty easy way to communicate locations using map coordinates. For example lets say you wish to meet up at Arcos the Wanderer in Exiled Lands. You would say go to G3-3.
G3 is the map square. The 3 on the end is the specific location in the map square. Split the mapsquares into imaginary 3x3 grids with 3 rows and 3 columns and each grid square there is has a number assigned similar to the numbers on a phone 1, 2, and 3 on top, 4, 5, and 6 in the middle, and 7, 8, and 9 on the bottom. So the 3 on the end in this case would be the upper right corner.
The Black Galleon would be I7-8 as another example.
This should get you within visual range of one another. Even at night as long as someone is carrying a torch.
As usual, Taemien, you have great advice, that’s a handy mnemonic device that we will use. That said, it would be nice to just be able to mark my map and tell my wife “Go to my mark”. Seems like a simple request and very moddable, no?
I installed Pippi but I can’t figure out how to access it. I’m renting a dedicated server so after I go to Server Settings and press MakeMeAdmin, when I go back to the main menu, there is no Admin Panel option like I see in all the Pippi tutorial videos.
How do I access Pippi’s admin from my client running on an offsite, rented dedicated server?
In the admin cheat menu, type in the word ‘marker’ and it should come up. I think it is the icon on the item is an exclamation point. You have to be in admin and have Pippi installed and activated. You may also have to make sure your rank is admin (not sure). Once you place it, you can interact with it and set the icon and description. You also have to set up who can see it, etc.
Yes, I have Pippi on the server and on my client and my client matches the server’s mod list, so all is working. I can access the Admin Panel and Pippi controls, but don’t see anything that resembles a map marker.
(As a side note, I also cannot access the chat box. It’s displayed on the screen, but none of my controls for displaying/hiding it work, it’s just always on. More importantly, I can’t enter any text into it because I can’t figure out how to get my cursor over to the chat text line. Nothing I do allows me to interact with the chat box, I see it but cannot get my mouse into the chat text field.
As you know, some of the Pippi commands are issued from the text box, so without that, I might as well not have Pippi installed.
The mapmarker is in the cheat panel. It’s a placable object.
The chat input should work, the moment you hit “enter”. There is also a little gear-sign where you can configure the chat window.
Yes, the ENTER key should take me there. It doesn’t. When I hit ENTER, nothing happens. The chat box is up all the time now after fiddling around with chat settings, but it just sits over there, staring at me waiting for me to find a way to get my cursor into it. Nothing I’ve tried allows me to type in it. I must have somehow disabled my ability to chat, even though the box appears and when I use the Pippi admin to enter a Broadcast message, that appears in the chat window. I just can’t get my cursor into it to actually chat in real time.
Talyna, could you please step me through the process of creating a mapmarker that my wife can see on her map, using Pippi? I know you said it’s a placeable from the cheat panel in Pippi, but I don’t know how to parse that. I go to the Cheat panel and I see a bunch of abilities, and don’t see one that appears obvious as a mapmarker. Sorry for the noob questions, but we’re still really learning this game and its intricacies and it is mindblowingly complex at first view. Everything becomes crystal clear as we gain experience with the various systems, and we’re having a lot of fun, but the added dimension of a complex mod like Pippi has been humbling! Thanks
