I started a new character on an official server and have finally moved up north, right outside of Sep. But OMG, everything is so already built up there. I found a nice spot on one of the lakes that wasn’t built up and started building a base there until I finally realized why no one was building there. There are shalebacks nearby and they just keep coming and coming to bother me while I build.
In some games you can prevent mob spawning by building some structure in the area and nothing will spawn nearby. This game doesn’t apparently do that. Any ideas? Or am I stuck with an infinite supply of hides and fresh meat outside my front door?
It’s not just that. There is a boss shaleback that often spawns there that drops an array of good resources. So generally you want to avoid building on a unique spawn.
Most of the reason why people don’t build there is because it is too small of an area. You can be creative despite that of course but not as much leeway.
Venture more north. The highlands are beautiful.
But on a PVE server real estate is hard to come by.
To answer your question though you’d have to build more to cancel spawns. Take what I said at the beginning seriously as you have to consider ToC.
Public server right? This is the biggest issue with PVE public servers. Over building and lacking any admin moderation.
Walk around any public server and what you see is proof people can’t read, don’t read, or think the examples of ToC violating builds is an instruction manual.
As I have said, the game needs more and bigger no build zones because having consideration for your fellow players HAS to be forced on people, because most seem to have no clue what it is.
So you get to the oasis, see how over built it is and decide “you know this looks like a good spot to build”. Like popping in at a obelisk, see 4 open map rooms and think “you know what this place needs? A 5th open map room”.
Last time I had a challenge for a mini boss I had to go to 4 known spawn sites to find one not built over.
This is my top of the list most consistent, most game effecting pet peeve.
Why do public servers lag? Why do we have issues with thralls and NPCs? Go to a private server with active admin on a non Gportal server and the majority of those issues practically vanish.
Why can’t funcom solve the issues with lag, teleporting, stuttering, frame dropage, rubber banding? because there is only one cure for over build servers.
I see. I have tried very hard to conform to the ToC. I’m not sure how many people actually take the Message of the Day seriously, but I did, and went and read the server Rules. I didn’t need to be informed that it is bad etiquette to build on spawn areas, but I’m too new to the game to know what some of those are, and I thought these shalebacks were just a local nuisance. When I was building, some young lady approached me and told me "please don’t cover my eggs, and so I was careful to build around the nests, leaving them all accessible.
But these shalebacks don’t provide anything uniquely useful, just ordinary hides and low level, ubiquitous meat. And there must be a half dozen shaleback spawn areas in the immediate area. I didn’t know about the unique boss spawn, that changes my thinking.
But I want to be a good citizen and I guess my build is not contributing to a good environment. I don’t feel like I’m adding a 5th open map room, but I suppose I am adding to the overbuild blight. I’ve made quite a resource investment here so far, but I’ve packed up and moved before, I can do it again.
Sigh. Thanks for the feedback. I think the Highlands are indeed beautiful, I may clean up after myself and move there after all.
This is where the disconnect between reading ToC and being new fails players. You’re not doing anything wrong because other than experience, how would you know there’s an rng boss spawn?
My rule of thumb is to not build on or near any spawns for animals, resources and of course the big ones like blocking pathways, dungeons, obelisks and other points of interest, etc.,…
It’s sounding like this server is woefully overbuilt and that is the unfortunate reality of PVE servers.
I don’t play PVE anymore, haven’t for a very long time. I could suggest looking at more servers but it can be a time sink to go through all the actions of making a new character and looking to no avail.
This issue is long gone on PVP but I would not suggest PVP solely so you can build. You’d be lucky to keep your build untouched within 48 hrs.
I put up a sign on my base stating “MOVING - REMOVING RESOURCES” and have started scouting out new locations. I found a very sweet spot at River’s End in the Highlands but within minutes it started raining. Ugh. Living in Seattle is plenty rain for me, thank you very much.
I would like to find a location that is reasonably flat, pretty, rain-free, and near enough to important resources (like Shattered Springs), to serve my intense resource needs (I’m a voracious Builder). Any ideas? I don’t have to worry much about Obelisks because virtually every one of them has a map room nearby. I just want a nice picturesque location that I can build on and call home for the duration of my time here.
Try Siptah Island. It’s rain free with lots of ressources everywhere quite evenly distributed.
On the Exiled Lands There isn’t a place metting all of your requirements that would not be overbuild, on any official PVE server.
North of shattered basin in the highlands are plains. They are west and east of the broken aquaduct. Travel a bit more westward and there’s a large swath of plains south of the mountainous region just below New Asagarth.
Much more enjoyable, the music sounds great and plenty of ponds around.
I like the thought of Siptah but we’d have to restart characters (again) and although I enjoy doing that generally, we just recently restarted and are entering our 30’s now so not quite ready to do that again. But next playthrough we will definitely try that, thanks!
I’ve looked everywhere, lol, man this server is built up to the limit. My wife and I are leaning toward starting over on Siptah. It’ll be a completely new experience for us and that’s very appealing. Plus I understand that some of the best stuff is there. As Wolfrider4594 says above, it’s rainfree, plenty of resources evenly distributed, and not built up as much. Sounds appealing.
Are there dungeons there? Does the game provide a different set of Journeys there, because we won’t be able to do the Dungeon Delver that requires Dregs, etc.
Off to watch some Siptah YouTubes. Any additional insights or suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks. We started up and are having a much more fun time here. Place is beautiful and there are a lot of great building spots available, and still decently populated. The one thing I dislike is that they are stupidly generous giving away lootables on the starting beach. The first chest I found within 2 minutes had 347 iron bars, and other similar quality items. I don’t like handouts, never did, takes away some of the sense of accomplishment. If they thought they were too stingy on Exiled Lands, I think there was probably a middle ground somewhere lol.
Combat is more difficult. There’s fewer enemies so leveling takes longer (or at least that’s how it felt when I was last there recently). Everything feels geared towards higher levels and it’s more of a slog to get there.
That’s me though and I admit to not getting past around 30 there.
Everytime I do a new playthrough I cringe that everyone wants to go to Siptah. It’s gorgeous and still fun! But even power leveling is a chore when I can get 60 on Exiled in about an hour lol
