I watched this video on Youtube today talking about role play (not erp) and how people created all these societies and events while fleshing out lore. So I went and checked out some of these websites and holy smokes!
People putting in thousands of hours building up these communities. So this is WoW that I’m speaking of but there are all these communities on ESO, FF14 etc. I’ve also seen some weird RP on Conan Exiles, heavy into the erp thing but I’m speaking of something much different. It’s like heavy DnD type stuff that keeps the games going on down times.
I remember that there were just 2 rp guilds back in the day but do any at all exist anymore? Could the AOC community maybe establish their own content on a game that is basically dead and in maintenance mode?
To my knowledge, RP is essentially dead in Age of Conan and Exiles releasing was the last nail in the coffin for that. But you can always check out the Serpents Head Inn or the Purple Carp Tavern and hang out a bit to see if any stragglers are around. I remember a couple of attempts the last few years of smaller guilds trying to form a roleplay base that fizzled out due to a mix of lack of interest and time zone differences. Don’t know if they’re around still, I don’t play anymore.
Most people don’t realize that RP doesn’t have to be some complicated affair. Just being with others in game, using some emotes and throwing out a few 1 liners, all while doing content in the game, is what I call Action-RP. And it’s great because it’s based around the game.
Some can get crazy and want to spew pages of dialog while you stand there wondering WTF is happening lol. But if people were just a bit friendly and gave a damn, it would be much easier.
We can definitely have RP events and back in the day we had hundreds of RP guilds on the RP-PVP realms. Just start small.
Find ONE other player that will do some RP with you, even light RP. Then go out and RP a bit in the main hubs and see if anyone else joins in. You may find a few others. Then organize a lair or dungeon run where you will RP as you progress through it.
The beauty of MMORPGs is that aside from the scripted content and instances, you can do soooooo much with just a couple of friends and really experience a whole other side of the game. Just takes a little bit of imagination and effort.
I think I’m going to make my guild an RP guild that enjoys PVP and PVE content. And little by little I’ll find new players to join and help out.
You can come up with your own bio and history for your character or just wing it. Heck, most players are RPing in ways without actually realizing it. Start small and get a few people to begin. Then in time, you may be able to organize larger events and activities and grow.
AoC has thousands of players and while only hundreds are on at any given time, they are constantly coming online so be patient and you will find others.
I love what you have to say - it helps people to feel that RP is not this all time consuming, intimidating activity, :).
The AoC roleplay discord is no longer up. I don’t know if it was deleted by the host or if I was banned but several other people report that it’s gone as well. I am trying to find out what happened.
I do regular RP (ERP would only be reserved for a certain person if they ever desired it) and know a few RPers of different flavours, no judgment here.
