a word can have a different meaning from what the word is derived from. In this case it is prejudice, discrimination, and outright violence towards a person based on his/her ethinicity or phenotype.

What’s embarrassing is those who treat others differently based off the tone of their skin. This seems to be a popular thing to do in the US as they like to divide each other by where they migrated from.

You’re describing hateful conduct. Not all hateful conduct is based off the tone of one’s skin.
Original definition as recorded in the United States, seems to be quite descriptive on what Race is.
When used to describe a person’s lineage, they would have to be a point in a line of lineage, a ‘race’ coinciding with an almost geometric line or ray. With the name of the race being the origin point of said line or ray.
In this case there would be a singular focus point (a common ancestor) that spawns multiple rays from that origin point and each point would spawn additional rays akin to something that looks like a starburst with each point spawning a new origin of a new ‘race’.
Which sort of coincides with the modern interpretation of race which is actually more correctly called ‘breeds’. As we tend to see race as a group of people by physical characteristics. Which ironically, I found this from the same source as above while writing this paragraph:

I have, lost my religion reading it. Found out what I had been taught for 12 years was just mens opinions. Then I read a bunch of various religions books. What I learned is most religions are the same what they preach and how they act define hypocrisy.
