Isle of Siptah - Surge Suggestion

The wild surges only spawn T1 crafter thralls. IMO there should be chances for T2 and T3 crafters as well.

I admire you tenacity. I have placed 50 chaos into the altar and triggered the Surge. Iā€™ve cleared 3 waves of NPCā€™s, with every triangle dropping 5 mobs every time, 3 triangles in total gave me 45 mobs (thatā€™s like clearing Mounds of the Dead 3 times over) and then I ran out of food and healing items, my armor and weapons where in bad shape and my level 2 fighter was almost dead. Best non-fighter thrall I had was level 3 dancer (on a contrary level 3 archers/fighters where pretty common), so I took her and headed home. And the Surge was not even over.

So far my impressions on this - whole system is a trash casino style waste of time and no number tweaking could change that. FUNCOM did an outstanding job by forcing players to grind two new types of resources to be able to have not the thralls themselves but a chance to get them.

100% what we experienced. Basically the surge in a nutshell. (we had to use admin tools in SP to do all the tests of course)

@SirDaveWolf Have you tested a specific surge or all of them? I did some tests for someone else and I had pretty poor results until I summoned two specific surges where I started getting 1-3 T4 crafters (blacksmith, carpenter, armorer, smelter). I am not counting all the T4 bearers/dancers/archers/fighters in this. It might be my luck but there is also a possibility that specific surges are bugged while others work as intended. It could be also that some surges are just better for thralls and others for specific mats, etc. To be honest, this mechanic was reworked so many times that I have no idea what is in the latest build.

I am pretty that the good thralls only spawn in certain waves. Similar to the purge where the purge crafters only spawn in wave 3 and wave 6. Not all waves are the same and there are 7 waves in total.

We did tests with surges with 100 chaos, 500 chaos, 750 chaos and 1000 chaos (and even beyound).

I personally did a test (5x 1k chaos surges, different altars) and the only useful worker thrall that I got was a T4 carpenter.

Please note that you have to kill 500 maelstrom monsters in order to get the required chaos. On the servers we played on, it could happen that the server FPS went down drastically when the maelstrom started, making it nearly impossible to fight and farm these said monsters.

Also trying to attract elder monsters, which give the greater ??? is almost impossible. Every monster literally oneshots your T3 building pieces, wasting a lot materials (that you have to grind without T2, T3, T4 thralls).

Afaik, you can only get T4 crafters from the highest tier surge (unless something changed and I am not aware).

Yeah, I am not 100% so donā€™t quote me on that.

Wow this is interesting to readā€¦ I had just assumed the summoned surge would be T3 MINIMUM with a chance of namedā€¦

Needs to be fixed ASAP as nobody is going to waste their time doing these in this state.

I really think this needs a hotfix

The lack of useful thralls in the Wild Surges also makes the whole Siptah experience very unwelcoming to solo/single players. The only way we can handle bosses in dungeons effectively is to get a decent tier thrall and level it up; the only way we can get a decent tier thrall as Siptah currently stands is to run the dungeons. Catch 22.

Would it be possible to allow admins to set the max level of thralls that spawn in a wild surge? That way, players who are happy with the current situation wouldnā€™t have their experience harmed.

I also feel the ratio of higher level thralls appearing needs to be addressed, across ALL surge types. Wild Surges should have the current ratio for a standard Surge and the standard Surge rates wildly increased.

Absolutely agree!!! Spot on. The Wild Surges are utterly useless, give them a chance (2%) to drop a named, (10%) for T3 (25%) for T2 and (100%) T1. As it is, they are a drag on the server performance. Make the damn Ley things do something else maybe same mechanic but only way to get purge thralls.

As it is, if I had a choice, I would throw the T1 thralls on the ground as I do in Exiled Lands.

Pets. Grind for greaters for the vaults. I have a greater lynx and a greater dog. Both can run the vaults with me with no problem and are a huge help. I agree the surges need a overhaul, especially in the crafter area. But the greater animals are leveling really well, good strenghth and hp and take the vaults with no problem.

Possible Suggestion:

  • Unstable Surges (beach locations): spawn 1-3 T1 thralls (good for starting characters)
  • Wild Surges (current locations + more random spots): spawn 4-6 T2-T3 thralls
  • Summoned Surges (leyshrines): spawn current waves with T3-T4 thralls + veterans/elites (and pets)

in all honesty, I prefer the rareness of thralls. Makes Siptah feel like a different game than exiles. More like naked and afraid. Exiles really got so meta and easy to fully staff it lost some of the player side. By making thralls a perk and no an attribute, it adds to the gaming. This ties to how the island pushes game loops where players actually cross over, is one of the best trade offs.
If we go back to easy T4 gathering, then it will only end up as Exiles with a paint job.

Totally agreed. The progression on Siptah is much more interesting.

That said, I think that people are right about the wild surges. It would be nicer if they had T1 and T2 crafters, with a rare chance of T3. Leave T3s and T4s for summoned surges.

And adding a few NPC camps with nothing above T1 would add a bit of human interaction to the map.

I think thatā€™s not possible lore wise. Because the maelstrom eats every race, be it serpentman or humans. And all the humans have actually gathered up north on the small island.

But on the other hand we have Darfari camps in the exiled lands that live in the sandstormā€¦

But you are not afraid anymore just as you find gold nodes, craft 200 Gold Coins and buy your first Lynx cubā€¦ Iā€™ve never used pets in vanilla as they could kill crafter Thralls at NPC camps. Now there are no camps, only Surges, and pets have 10 slots for their food and my loot but Thralls have 5 slots for their food, their weapon, their shield and my loot, so pets are way better for most of time (and way easier to get).

Put simply: There needs to be a better ā€œpay outā€ than what summoned surges are providing, but not so much that it destroys the ā€œrarityā€ of what weā€™d be getting.
