Issues with 'PlayerCanBuildAnywhere'

Basic Info:
Platform: Xbox Series X
Issue Type: Other
Game Mode: Online Public
Server Type: PvE
Map: Exiled Lands
Server Name: The Institute

Bug Description:
Not sure what’s going on. In O8, I can’t build anymore even though I’ve enabled ‘PlayerCanBuildAnywhere’ and I’ve built there before, I’m just continuing from where I left off and suddenly I can’t build there anymore. Then when I walk in front of the build, I glitch out under the beach. Edit: restarting the server seems to have fixed the glitch under the beach but I still have the notification “Failed to place building” even with the ‘PlayerCanBuildAnywhere’ cheat enabled.

Bug Reproduction:
No idea

This is what I’m talking about. I have ‘PlayerCanBuildAnywhere’ enabled but it won’t let me place this. It did about a week ago then I deleted it cause it was happening again.

I was able to build there with the build anywhere enabled but it wouldn’t let me place a few foundations until I deleted a few. Tried doing that same workaround this time but it didn’t let me and now it’s saying “Failed to place building” even though I’ve placed buildings there before. This is frustrating.

Update, this is what I’m able to do:

Yes, the BuildAnywhere is enabled for myself.

Couple of tricks that have sometimes worked for me in the past with similar build glitches -

  1. sometimes changing to building from a different position can work, or rotating the foundation block’s facing

  2. try placing a foundation of a different build set (eg sandstone) and then replace with the desired foundation

  3. try placing a ceiling tile, then going back to placing foundations on top of it - once past the glitch point it should then be possible to delete the ceiling tile

  4. maybe running an additional stack up to full height next to the stack you want, could provide additional snap points to help the system figure out the block you are trying to place (and then delete the extraneous stack afterwards)

No guarantees, obviously, but hopefully one of those options may work. CE’s build system has always been a bit glitchy, especially when building in water, but I generally find that if I keep trying different things eventually something gets it back on track. (Or sometimes, just leave it and come back after a reset - but I imagine that’s more of a hassle in the case of a server rather than singleplayer.)

I’ve thought of all but the first one, I’ll give it a shot and let you know.

I tried but didn’t let me

Sorry to hear that. If I come up with something else, I’ll let you know. Hopefully it just starts to work again in the meantime.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll just have to shift the build a few foundations to the side and back. Unfortunate but it’s the only thing I can think of. Lot of time just down the drain.
