Items decay in inventory that have no decay timer

about 3 times now when i log out and come back later the items in my inventory have just decayed
this is per the event log
these are items that have no decay timer
i have also now lost items placed in a chest/cupboard

that is a good idea
but i did that after i died twice or so
then for some reason the items that have no decay timer what so ever decayed inside the cupboard they were placed in
but really why would we even die while not playing that is just dumb
