Khitan building in desert

Out of curiosity, will I die if sleep in Khitan home in desert with Vanin Fur clothing on? I want to try building a Khitan home in desert and I was told it’s “safe” before on another forum, but I’d like your opinion here as well. I just don’t want to find myself dead one morning. Hmm perhaps I can test this on admin mode when I get to work actually. In any case, has anyone tested before?

I don’t think the building type changes effect on character much.
What type of armor, be it standar/epic or regular/exceptional/flawless however will.
I recall hearing once that if you are in a ‘full’ shelter, you should be fine logging out regardless of temperature effects. But someone would have to confirm that.

I’ll build a Khitan home in the middle of a desert and let the forum know if my character is fine

Our base is almost smack dab dead center of the map.
Our entire baser is Khitan, and we wear around in Royal.
The meter is dead center too.

The type of building don’t affects temperature fealing.

The armor do if there are points in your base where the game don’t give you the full shelter bonus.

The problems begin when you have epic flawless armors from DLCs because they have best resistance against heat or warm, so if you use an epic flawless Kithan armor without having full shelter bonus in the desert your character could die while offline.

It happened to my clan mate, that’s why now when I log off I wear a ‘pajamas’, an armor made just for this purpose regardless the shelter bonus, and a sandstorm mask just in case

Depends on exactly where and how you build. In most of the desert you’re probably ok. But if you build in an area that is already hot like the savannas then it’s possible you might run into some problems.

There’s also things like torches and furnaces to consider, since they also put out some heat.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve built in the Savanna and I do wear Khitan medium for combat purposes so I’ll definitely have to be careful. Are walls with windows dangerous then, since it will reduce shelter bonus from being full to something like 90% full?

From what I’ve seen, windows and open doorways will decrease the cooling/insulating properties of whatever building material you use. So while normally building with Khitan or Black Ice in the desert could make you hotter, if there’s adequate ventilation (which also makes it harder to get full Shelter), then this can decrease the insulation effect.

Thanks… I have windows open on the ground floor tiles all over so hopefully I wont die. I’ll experiment when I’m done with the home. I had large chests full of T3 mats. Not even close to being done.

As mentioned upthread, it’s often a good safeguard to stay your gear in a chest and sleep in the big when you log off. Then if you die of exposure, you don’t actually lose anything.

Anyway, let us know how it goes, and just bear in mind that exceptional and flawless armors have increasingly strong thermal values. At a certain point, mixing and matching can become desirable.

Extreme heat and Extreme cold are about only places in game that building style will mess with you. (even then… you’d have go afk with lack torches in house to freeze, or not changed clothes to die there in desert. XD

You wont burst into flames in insulated or khitan in middle of desert. The temp bar will move abit, but never to point of “Oh God! I’m on FIRE!!! Help me Tom Cruise!”

It’s not a good idea, khitan is heat-resistant lke you know, vanir armour is to.
So all two together, ever if you don’t die immediately the first log-out or while you play around your base, it’s not top.
Chose an other area for you base idea, or change the material you use. Armours used at the right spot is also important of course.

Okay so I finished my base enough to take a screenshot, which I forgot to do, but with many expansions in mind (i.e. areas to put all my temples).

In any case in the desert area as long as I wear heat resistant gear I’m totally fine. Inside I’m completely fine wearing Khitan medium armor, which is cold resistant, and I have not died upon logging on. But once I step out the door my character is very hot, but does not get a heat stroke. I wear Dafari Skin or regular light armor instead most of the time however. Note that I have lots of windows, and even then my temperature cools immediately upon entering the home when wearing the Khitan armor. Kind of weird. I also only use blue/purple torches indoor and being near furnace doesn’t seem to change my temperature.

Do the game mechanics take open windows into account with temperature?

I heard that it does. Some people go as far as making “vent duct”. I’ve seen it on some Youtube video.

Thw following is mentioned. Although I have done a lot of testing. I will share my findings.

Black Ice = Cold Protection
Khitan = Cold Protection
Insulated Wood = Cold Protection

Turan, Aquilonian, Pict, Stonebrick, Reinforced Stone, Sandstone = Heat Protection.

As long as you have the full chelter buff you should be fine temp wise building in places that would freeze or heat you to death.

That being said. If you want to build with materials in areas where they are less effective. Ie…Khitan in the desert insert Windows and add witch fire as it cools the place down.

Windows actually negate an entire panel as far as I can tell. So if you build 3 pieces high (two plain walls with the highest being a window the place will remain moderate.

Adding torches or a fireplace will warm a place, but best to avoid windows in a super extreme cold area.

I did khitan in the Savanah and was fine. I put my kilns and heat generating items in one room and in my main room I had Windows up top.

Just dont put anything valuable on PvP by a window.
