Lag spikes when entering base

Game mode: [Online]
Problem: [Performance]
Region: [EU]

I’m seeing a lot of lag spikes of game freazing
I can reproduce it consistently.

Steps on how to reproduce issue:

  1. Build a base
  2. Go away
  3. Come back an run to the door
  4. Just at the moment you try opening your door (still running) the game freezes for 8-10 seconds

I have it at both my bases, so should be reproducible.

Pretty sure it’s normal, especially the more you build & the more thralls you have. The game has a lot of background work to do near your base. (crafting etc) I don’t get freezes but i get little stutters where my FPS drops 10-15.
Unless you’re actually talking about internet lag & not PC lag?

@Belgarath I don’t think it’s normal.
It’s not stuttering, since the image freezes for 8-10 seconds

I think it’s releated to chests.
I have now experienced the same lag spike when hovering over chests.

Since I have one in both my bases just on the other side of the door, I think that is causing it.

Also, I can exclude internet lag because that wouldn’t result in this kind of reproducible behaviour.

Ok, it’s definitely the chests.
Every time the aiming dot goes over a chest that hasn’t been scanned before there is a lag spike.

So it looks that the game at that time fetches the content of that chest from the server to be able to show it.
I think that is not done in an async way at the moment.
Could be solved by caching this locally (but that could be exploited) or doing it in an async manner.

Devs, could you have a look at this? It’s very annoying

It’s not normal or wanted, but is common. The bigger your base the worse it can be.
Many factors affect this too, server performance is a big factor.
Giving the server a reboot will often alleviate this to a great degree.
We reboot our server every 24hrs to help prevent this from happening.

  1. it is not because it is common that it isn’t a bug and shouldn’t be addressed.
  2. I’ve been playing since very early access. This is something that started happening after the latest patch.

I never suggested for one minute that it shouldn’t be addressed ! Clearly it shouldn’t happen, but it IS common FOR it to happen.

It’s always been a thing in this game, may have got worse recently, but has always been there.

I don’t know what you THINK I was saying…

Like I said, I’ve been playing since very early access. This is something that started happening after the latest patch.
If you think this has always been a thing, then I think we’re talking about different things.
