I really do like playing this game, I have about over 500 hours spent in playtime, so I’m going try to be constructive with this. Please improve the followers’ A.i. They die like they don’t know better like lava can’t hurt them. Maybe have them avoid obvious hazards and make sure they don’t teleport into said hazards as well or at least not have them die so fast or die in general from the lava when they follow you or decide to melee a guy across a lava bed, that’s hopefully that’s not suggesting too much. I respect that you guys continue to try fix and improve Conan so best of luck towards the future of this fun but broken game.
So now I vent below.
It’s a reoccurring gag for me and my friends to have when the game occasionally crashes on us and we die because of it sometimes and yes that applies to this version of the game and it’s still annoying. You guys for sure reduced some of the crashing for us with some of the recent patches but that’s not the point I’m trying to make.
I’m saying followers follow you too well. Like sure I’m on a server playing and like a good little farmer I venture to the volcano to do business but my game crashes, like minded Conan players will probably assume the worst and wanna get back on to pick up their stuff from their assumed corpse in the lava but then they realize they had a thrall following them. So guess what I see when the arrive back to my corpse, another corpse of my beloved lv 19 bearer name John trying swim in lava like their master.
Your players taking time to level up their thalls/pets but I guess that’s not enough to increase their followers’ IQs, it’s like they want to die.
Love you guys, fix this please.
Steps on how to reproduce issue:
On a standard session, walk close around lava with thrall/pet following the player.
Watch thrall/pet as they die following the player.
(alt.) Have the player’s game crash on a official server while about to walk in lava as thrall/pet follows the player.
(alt. continue) Have the player get back on the official server and see the results first hand or in the event log in the proximity of the last assumed location of the thrall/pet following the player.
a while ago lava was instant kill for you and thralls. they already made it that they can survive a bit. i think its ok like it is. you just have to be a bit carefull. its not their instant death when they touch the lava one time
My clan’s mantra was never bring a thrall you like to the volcano. In the past we kept a few Hybo-3s at our volcano thrall wheels to use while there, as they were tough enough to do the knock-outs and/or kill the NPCs down there, as you usually only encounter them in groups of 2 except for a few choice spots.
Now with the thrall limit that isn’t really an option, so mainly what I do is stick to the upper areas, away from the Well of Skelos, and if I do venture down there to farm gold then I leave my thrall on the down ramp past the living magma at the bottom of the steps. But yeah, it’s still a fairly risky area to have a thrall follow period.
I appreciate the feedback @LostInTim but I don’t agree that we should be going out of our way to have our thralls not walk into the lava.
Like there’s a whole thing with how thralls interact cliff sides where there’s a barrier they can’t pass unless they get launched by a maul or something.
I feel like there should be something similar in place for how thralls interact with the lava or if there is something like that already in place then there’s probably a need for refinement.
Honestly, if they get knocked into the lava that’s understandable but having them die because they have the free will to go out terminator style is a bit immersion breaking.
But wouldn’t you guys agree that this could possibly be quality of life fix?
Oh trust me, I wasn’t at all saying that I thought it’s ok for our thralls to be morons. That was/is my biggest objection to the leveling system, because before when a thrall fell down an elevator shaft or teleported under the lava in the volcano and you lost a full set of Godbreaker and a great weapon, the cheapest part to replace was the thrall itself. Now they’ve made thralls far more valuable, without making them any better at taking care of themselves (like standing in a poison gas cloud while their health ticks down).
I was just trying to offer a few tips as a work-around.
@LostInTim I’m not trying to put those tips down, I honestly think it’s helpful. But when I said I didn’t agree it wasn’t directed towards you in particular it was with the idea having to work around a problem that never had to be one in the first place. And with this post I’m trying to let the developers know just that.
So if this post at least has some to light so they could see that I’m not the only one upset about this it be just as helpful in my opinion.
If not immunity, have thralls treat lava like water. “There is lava in my path. I will not go there. I will teleport to the player when they are in a safe location.” Seems like a simple enough change to make, the coded behavior is already there, it just needs to apply to more than water.
Edit: By the way, if you care about your thralls, don’t even think about taking them into the Well of Skelos. That zone design is a hot mess and your thrall will eventually fall through the ground and die. Guaranteed.
Main problem is that they do treat lava as water. Haven’t you seen Thralls following you in shallow water and even fighting in the river? Once I’ve seen Ansina Hidden-DaggersSWIMMING after me across the Newbie River! Really swimming just like myself. She didn’t swim very long, just teleported back and then teleported after me to another bank of the river - but she tried! And standing in “shallow” lava just like in shallow water kills them fast.
That’s a good point, thralls and pets need to be more adverse to lava than to water. I mean, sure, they’re under your command, but at some point self-preservation should kick in. Jumping into a river of molten rock would seem to meet that criteria of “nope, will not do”.
