So Predatory is the keyword for Light Attacks only.
While it removes the special status impact of the weapon, given the realities of stamina management, that’s not as harsh a restriction in context.
Are there any other weapons you have seen with that trait, other than the obvious Predatory Blade?
Also, is Executioner back in function?
With the much higher damage and lower HP pools, that’s going to be just beastly. Also, this one has better luck with Thralls using Two Handed Swords or One Handed maces. They seem to make better life decisions when equiped with those weapons. Probably some factor this one is ignorant of, or just happenstance.
This one must note that it seems that the powers that be certainly responded with the power up for all the legendaries this one has seen. Even the stat sticks are quite impressive. Aja’s Bane lost its Str+, and there was much lamentation, but then it got Execute, hopefully to a commiserate amount of rejoicing and accolades.
From what I’ve seen many of the basic legendaries got all kinds of new effects. I don’t know what all of them do since some of the effects have changed or are new. But the old favorite legendary meta from before is getting flipped.
Players are going to be encouraged to seek out these old weapons as if they are new. And new favorites will come about. My hope is they come up with a system that makes finding a legendary, even if its not a specific one a favorable event in its own right.
That’s how it should be. Getting a legendary, any legendary should be celebrated. Not getting your 10th set of Akbitan Knives and tossing them away like before.
Why not?
with my current build (full authority, 2 thralls) I’m more or less playing as a mounted knight so I’m weaker in combat (compared to the SAV build for example) but I can make full use of the predatory blade from the horse (I have a pretty decent area attack and immunity to stagger while on the horse, plus I feel like the dmg is split between me and the horse)
anyway, my contribution in combat is more of a “bonus” since the game is more of a thrall management sim in PVE and my 2 main companions (Lianelle & zerk) can handle anything in the game on their own besides the 3 bosses (wine cellar final boss, arena ch and maybe rockslide without using AP katanas)
So the game is now more or less about how many legendaries you put on thralls (I’m still talking about PVE) , so it changes more for mid-game (when you already have a few legendaries but not capable companions) and for a few people trying to fight alone and not leave it to thralls (u have my respect guys - or girls)
A set of returning throwing knives, in concept not unlike the axe of Nergal, could be lots of fun.
Off hand weapon use still has plenty of room to grow and throwing weapons could always use some love.
From everything this one has seen, there is nothing this one would consider a junk Legendary.
A few are niche (such as using a different stat than most weapons of their type/moveset), but not uninspiring.
Squabble about repair aside, it’s a premium line of upgrades.
Now that the prize is right, perhaps a bit of tinkering to bump up the challenge of acquiring them. Perhaps having easy access to a random legendary is good enough as they will have to be rotated onto the wall or thrall eventually (unless they dismantle into something equally interesting), but they really seem like worthy targets for acquisition. From the tiny amount of putzing this one has done (bracing for the hate now) some of the world bosses seem a little on the softer side. Perhaps they could use a little damage boost and just a few more hp. Not Rockslide. Never Rockslide. They aren’t made of tissue, and this one has a fair amount of experience with the game, so… perhaps not the best person to judge, not trying to gatekeep newer players or such… however, many can be defeated with a decent kit in swift order.
The difference between grabbing a skeleton key and going after a wine cellar or nameless city boss is noticable. This one prefers the level of bite and questing of the Latter, but the odds are never in this one’s favour. There is a mild concern that rolling on the Red Mother’s loot table just may not really be worth it moving forward.
Grumble. This one loves the power level of the Legendaries in AoW, but acquisition and retention (or lack thereof) are chewy bits. Not as easy to gauge in the limited windows as the snapshot of the raw stats is.
Well, it took him long enough. You can spawn, run to an isolated spider in the black galeon area without fighting a single enemy on the way and get your first legendary. If you’re lucky, you can get a second near in a chest bellow the galeon, without even having to fight. It’s not a very good legendary (hammer of the whale or some daggers I forget), but it’s much better than stone. There’s also a spider in the silkwood that almost has no others close. Lure it out, do the same, get another legendary. These are just examples. You can easily kill a croc at any level or a hive queen. If you go to Sepermeru first, that’s what you do after looting the chests.
Go to the pagoda a few times, get your first epic armor. From there, go to the mounds if you want heavy. Farm stargazer crest and the little camps surrounding the mounds. Capture the isolated berserker. Game over. After that it’s smooth sailing. Take the zerker to the jungle and level him to 10. Then farm the UC. Those bosses are ridiculously easy. By then both you and the zerker have maxed out. You do this without placing more than a bedroll. After that, you build your base.
It should be harder to get these weapons. You should have to craft your weapons at first. Then you could hunt legendaries, when you were maxed out and in armor.
It takes you weeks to open a skeleton key chest? I open several a day starting as early as level 20. Perhaps this says more about skill than you’re willing to admit. If you had a buffed weapon that was triple the stats of other weapons, you’d have a much easier time building up a stockpile.
The way i did it was run the blood crystals. And hope i get momentum or bb pick. Then it is now just a blood crystal loop to pile up legendaries and thralls lol.
After so many thousand hours there’s no skill, you just dance in the rhythm of the battle repeating the same moves. Missed a step and accept damage, if you don’t, you simply have a flawless fight.
But we must understand that this game for us is simple now, what comes with the new players is different and heavily respected. We need them to be happy and stay, after all we ain’t going to leave no matter what . But yes, filling chests with legendary weapons was never hard. It was only in the beginning intentionally hard by not allowing us to open chests until 60… Then again, unnamed city was hard back then and no dungeons existed to provide you legendaries. After the release of skeleton chests at any lvl the game is hard no more. @Taemien thank you for this photo, i believe i am covered, with this damage and this durability your fights finish with almost no hits, so your legendary weapon will melt in your hands before you’ll get 20 more legendary weapons.
About the reach, consider your self very lucky, 18 visits is very difficult and rare to provide you 2 bows, very lucky actually!
I remember the first time I saw a giant croc, @stelagel . I thought wow! How am I supposed to kill THAT? I played my first game completely blind, knowing nothing on purpose. No youtube, no wiki, nothing.
It was EXTREMELY fun. I remember still my first nemesis. A regular croc that spawned near my shack on the noob river. I would give a kidney to live that experience again. My first playthrough was really awesome. I was constantly in awe. When I got a purge, I didn’t even know what it was.
FUNCOM can’t make it too hard for new players. That must be ballanced with very hard content for veterans. This new purge system seems very much in line with this ideal. I think I’ll love it.
Seconded. And I can also attest to this from personal experience. I have never even received a Reach of the Red Mother, and I have been playing since the game launched on Playstation. To lend further creedance to this, it took me 5 months to get a Sword of Crom and 12 months to get a Final Breath of the Red Mother! So my position is this: do we now have to spend some 6 to 12 months grinding a Legenday item every time we want to use it, only to then repeat the process again a few weeks later when it breaks? I am sorry but to me that is the anti-thesis of fun.
Or, for that matter, any specific legendary, be it from a skeleton key chest or a boss.
I lost my Lovetap when my neighbor’s purge destroyed a part of my sandstone-and-flotsam starter home. A couple of weeks of active playing later, I still haven’t found a single Lovetap in all the chests I’ve opened.
Because what we really need on official servers is more hoarding
You know what would be nice, though? If we could restore a portion of a legendary item’s durability by “sacrificing” other legendary items. Not a full repair, just a portion.
Legendary weapons do no need a further trade off (i.e.-becoming irreparable) for their increase in power. They already have a trade off; the insane amount of time investment to secure a specific one owing to the RNG grind.
Its only redeeming quality is 34 damage. But lacks the special effects that other bows now have.
This is less of an issue now as more effects are being spread out to different weapon types. If you’re looking for a very specific weapon, then the system isn’t working correctly. How it should work is when you find a legendary, any legendary, you can have a use for it. This way there isn’t a reason to look for specifics.
Its time to learn to let go of attachments.
I think the part I love most about these changes to legendaries, is that they are pushing towards all of them being useful, all of them being somewhat replacements for each other (obviously agility weapons need agility builds and strength builds need strength weapons) and when you use up one, you use another and your experience is slightly different.
Like when I found the Axe of the Lion had the predatory effect and was like… wait… I dunno if I don’t like this or not. But as I played with it… and with the new combat changes it kinda grew on me. Just slicing things up with light attacks was a bit of fun and different to how I normally would use axes.
I think what everyone has to be prepared to do is simply forget what you know about the game from Age of Sorcery and on back and embrace the new experience and learn it as if playing for the first time. Age of War is to combat as Age of Sorcery was to building.
This is not a bad thing. Just different. There’s a few holes in it, as is expected, but you can’t know what is wrong and what is simply different without trying it out. I recommend everyone to just live on the Public Beta (if its available to you) instead of your normal server.
Can you really replace the sword of crom by another legendary, @Taemien ? Or the Blindsight eye patch on Siptah, for instance? Pristine Khari weapons?
Unless you don’t have to grind for an eternity, I’m cool with that. But there are weapons with an extremely low drop rate, so much that you can go entire playthroughs without getting them. I think those should have an unbreakable perk or better drop rates. The run-of-the-mill ones can waste away.
You do make a good case., but I would protect a S tier class of weapons from durability loss, or make them easier to get. Rng can be very cruel.
Anyway, even with the durability loss, I prefer what we will have to obsolete legendaries.
Here’s an idea. Why not making those specific very rare weapons non rng dependant? Survive 10 max kevel purges and get the weapon to drop from the final boss, for instance. I’ll take merit over luck any day.
The Whole Legendary means its should be hard to get, hard to keep Makes Zero Sense…
A Fork… a FORK can be Legendary cause Tom Cruise used it as a screw driver, and handed it off to you.
Its still a Fork… it doesn’t stop being able to be repaired.
Several of Weapons and Armor you get are Just that… Famous cause someone used it. And died and lost it in Exile Lands…
Handful of them would have “No Repair” Status cause of Magic Used to Make them… Or Design is lost.
THATS How it should be.
Basic LI’s should be fixedable and useable. If they wanna make a New Tier of 0.0000000000000001% drop rate gear thats 5-10% better that can never be fixed.
DO IT.
But don’t make everything feel like its super ultra important. The 40+ Shields with heat protect that I have dropped on Ground… WORTHLESS.
The 1 Black Blade… Ya, its a Katana and its Durability is Garbage, Even if you bump it up. Its still a Normal Katana… just better made.
Familer Axe… Just normal Axe, Ramza herself didn’t even hold onto it. Or Ask for it back.
not really Legendary…
ACTUALLY, Make a Ultra Rare Tool Kit, the buffs a LI Item, and then stops it form being repaired as the Price of a good def/dam Buff. Give it a expire timer so it can not be stored or saved in any Form.
Its Gotta be used within an a time frame.
Choice Wisely.
Heck, Once Tool Kit has Dropped, it marks Player like Summoning a God Beacon. PVP is Now Forced On.
Best use it Quick. =3
