Oh, great, another flame war about nerfs and another round of pointless poop-throwing between PVP and PVE players.
You wanna know who to ultimately blame for nerfs? It’s not PVP players, it’s Funcom. They’re the ones who make the final call about how to balance the game, and since nerfing is the cheapest way to do it, they’ll often resort to that.
That being said, this whole “show me where we asked for things to be useless” trope is just as incorrect as “PVP players are to blame for all nerfs”. Yes, it’s Funcom who makes the final call, but take some freaking responsibility for the way you ask for changes.
“Nerf bow damage”, “nerf all daggers”, and “nerf the poison” are just 3 examples, off the top of my head, of calls for sweeping nerfs that would affect much more than necessary, just because someone got butthurt and didn’t want to stop and think what the real problem was.
Fortunately, we do have some cooler heads on these forums who will eventually wade into a discussion and help reduce the scope of the requested changes down to something reasonable, and kudos to them for doing that work.
Long story short, anyone who is bіtching about nerfs and blaming other players for that needs to stop and get involved at the proper stage of the process. Instead of moaning about how PVP players are to blame for the nerfs, make sure that every nerf suggestion you see receives proper – and respectful – feedback from the community at large.
If you’re like me and don’t have any decent PVP experience, make sure to loop in players like @SirDaveWolf, @Xevyr, and @Barnes, to name a few, and ask them to give their own opinions, since they’re known for backing up their ideas with actual explanations and data, instead of just throwing insults along the lines of “you don’t know how to PVP, so shut up”.
And don’t let yourself be silenced, either. PVE players have just as much right to provide their own feedback about the ramifications of PVP-inspired suggestions. We’re all playing the same game, and this is the place to discuss it, so no one is right to tell you to shut up.
In the end, if we can’t count on Funcom to not listen to knee-jerk nerf requests, we’re the ones who have to make sure it’s not the only thing Funcom hears. Yeah, maybe that sucks, but the alternative is getting hit by yet another nerf and coming here to vent about it. That’s about as useful as a fart in a spacesuit.
