Conan exiles is a survival pvp game. It makes absolutely no sense that someone can jump in water to escape death in pvp. Jumping into water wearing armor should mean slow movement speed, sinking to the bottom after running out of reduced stamina and drowning. There should also be a 60 second debuff to movement speed leaving the water and a delay in switching armor pieces while in water or exiting. Crossing a body of water should be dangerous as it was In ancient times. There should also be a raft/boat system in game.
It used to be dangerous to go swimming. Waters are infested with piranhas.
No
I spent 6 years in Exiled Lands, I learned swimminng in armor, thank you very much

Swimming, or even just floating used to use stamina, you had to leave the water to regain stamina and once it was out you would drown if I remember correctly, was long time ago.
The debuff to movement speed and delay in switching armor sounds like it could make things more interesting.
The thing I don’t get is you can go into water to escape enemies yet some of them such as crocodiles can’t go into water and chase you once it get’s to deep to walk.
I know it’s just a game but even using crocs as an example they are most dangerous in water than out IRL.
Would be interesting if they added enemies in deeper waters too, but at same time it would either have to stay the way it is as if you swimt here is no combat in water, or they could possibly add combat in water but that would probably be quite a bit of work.
As it is now, if you’re getting your ass beat in pvp you can just jump in the water, strip down naked and swim away with a speed advantage. Even having the right weapons doesn’t guarantee you’re hitting them chasing them either.
Jumping in water should mean probable death unless you have the right gear and you shouldn’t be able to strip off heavy armor in the water while magically floating. There should be currents, water predators etc. any person who actually has experience with bodies of water IRL should know how easy it is to drown and wearing anything heavy gets heavier in water. A little realism goes a long way in game immersion. Water in pvp as it is now is a BS escape death free card that needs to be nerfed.
Currents and in water enemies does sound interesting to me, hopefully they do something in the future with it.
I can’t see it happening any time soon if they do though
Have you seen the size of the fish that you can put on the wall? Scary a f if I saw that swimming towards me.
So, you are kind of all over the place here. But, let’s take the core item:
- Make Swimming Dangerous
I’d reclassify it as, make swimming not safe.
As I do not PVP, I can’t speak to the prospect that water is a magical shield. I know that in PVE, I still get hit while in the water. I still take damage, I still get killed.
Armor slowing movement speed is not an unreasonable request. However, I don’t believe the code is up to the task and I can’t see the ROI on the effort .
In the long ago, swimming used stamina and there was a movement penalty when exiting water if your stamina bar was dry, because stamina did not regen in water and regenned very slowly, compared to the now. This dynamic is still true for mounts, but a decision was made that swimming should take zero stamina and fast swimming should use less stamina than sprinting.
Since this is a game, requiring folks to remove armor to swim is an unreasonable ask. Those who have been around long enough remember having to remove armor to climb, which made little sense as the weight did not change, it was still being carried, you just climbed naked, in some places.
Most of the water in Conan is creeks and streams and rivers. These are not inherently dangerous to cross and, if we apply the penalties you are suggesting, the result will be a metric sh*t ton of bridges spanning waterways.
But, back to the core point. Make swimming not safe.
I agree.
Add water based enemies.
We can already use one handed weapons to attack while swimming in the water, so there is a defense characteristic, but let’s add danger to the water in the easiest and most rewarding way possible, through combat focused encounters.
Crocs and bullsharks. They must become a thing. Destructible rafts.
The rest… meh. Too much trouble for what is worth.
Agreed. And a much more concise response than mine.
I’m short on time.
Pass. I would be ok with the addition of some predatory animals being added into waterways such allowing crocodiles to swim or bullsharks as @MarcosC suggested. Heck I wouldnt even mind if Piranhas and Oscars were added back into the game. But as far as adding additional movement penalties into the game for swimmers go; hard no from me. If an adversary enters the water take pot shots at them with a Bow (it is easy to do) or jump in and pursue them.
This .
Water bridges, especially in Siptah were so freaking annoying.
It’s not only unnecessary land claim, in times people block swimming paths too.
No thank you.
If i have to compare the old swimming with the current one, i will choose the current one. I love the decathlon champion mobility i have in the game right now.
As for pvp? Javelins exist since day one, they do good damage now, use them. Yes you can toss them in the water, nothing new, just lock your target, nothing big.
It’s hard to take Conan exiles seriously as a competitive survival pvp game when a bunch of risk averse clowns can simply jump into an ocean or lake (two types of places that are inherently dangerous) strip off their armor in the water and swim away with a speed advantage even with a ton of crap in their inventory. Yes ppl can chase others into the water but it’s a hassle considering ppl should just stam out and drown in heavy gear to begin with. Deep water should kill players who aren’t prepared to be in it. I get that without a raft system part of the map might be difficult to traverse but players have also been asking for a raft system too. It should be a simple fix to implement stamina drain in water for non water gear and would go a long way for balance and some realism. Fighting in water really shouldn’t even be a thing. People just need to drown. This would also fix underwater ice vaults and other water related cheese mechanics.
We shall have to disagree.
People don’t even fight they swim away
You did not drown. You just were totally defenseless if something or someone was waiting for you on the shore.
No
I’d like some animals and hazards in the water… maybe the occasional jellyfish on the beach to avoid stepping on. In a wild world of no performance concerns, I’d even love a good darfari canoe pursuit with blowguns and stuff. The more the merrier (provided its technologically feasible). Anything that makes the game into a good story/epic tale is great, so that story can also be told…
