Mods and September 1st Release Date

Gamers as testers? Reminds me of self checkouts. Like it or not, we are now part of the work force because we benefit directly when we do it.

Random thought
it would not solve anything entirely, but it might help in some regard

Is there the slightest possibility to maybe convince the devs to leave 2.8 on a separate beta branch on steam at least
so that they’re not forcing a premature update on everybody whether they’d like it or not and those who wish have the option to keep playing the current game for ~2 more weeks giving modders a chance to catch up and players of modded servers to patiently outwait that period, etc?

Sigh, not this discussion again. Funcom has a Q/A, like any other company. No, they are not “outsourcing” to gamers to be their Q/A and only Q/A.

There are plenty of real things to be upset about, like telling mod creators repeatedly they would have 2 weeks to prep their mods, and getting 6 days (and a very buggy devkit to slow us down further) without diving into conspiracy theories. This is a very overused clichĂ©, that some game company doesn’t have a Q/A because bugs exist in a patch or game. I would rather the thread not devolve into that further.

Not in 3 days time. If any thing like that could be done, prep work would be necessary (no, I don’t want to hear that it would be “simple to do”). Nor would they want to, nor would I think they should when I take my own emotions out of it and think about it in pure logic. They are very committed to the Thursday release date with the free week options on PC and Game Pass, and the launch of the new monetization strategies. This is it, nothing we can do about it.

Mod creators got screwed, nothing is going to change that. Best we can do is work hard. I’ve been pulling 10-14 hour days since the dev kit dropped, but I’m completely worn out already. Body just can’t keep up with this type of hard crunch anymore (health reasons). So the best thing the community can do is the things I talked about at the top post, support the mod creators, and be patient for us to finish our work.

Please don’t do this to yourself. I can understand that there is a lot of pressure because people want updated mods, but it’s just not worth it. I have no problem with just leaving my server offline until all the mods are updated.

Same.
For a lot of us, if modders can’t push the mods out when the update hits live, we can wait. No need to rush, especially if it is taxing on one’s mind and/or body.
I usually don’t even play the game for 2-3 weeks when an update comes out, to be sure every modder can catch up.
It is just a game. People who play it can wait, it should not be n.1 priority.

If I were to hazard a guess, its not that simple as taking a break. I know sometimes when I go to bed and there’s still a solution churning in my mind, I can’t sleep until I get it out.

If our modding community has one flaw, its that they are their own worst critics and vicious taskmasters of themselves. The best thing for us to do is not stress them out, and of course show the appreciation they are due.

Or just saving the database and playing vanilla till its all ready to go. Especially with 3.0, people should be able to busy themselves
 I know I know
but I like to be optimistic. This is one of those times where if someone has 50 mods on a server that are all ESSENTIAL they really should examine their approach.

And one look at the current state of the forums validates my concerns

I’m sorry, I do feel genuinely bad for a lot of my other CE players out there but just looking at all the “GAME IS RUINED/UNPLAYABLE/WTF” threads, I can’t help but laugh at your comment now

I have no problems playing. Spent all day playing on the Elpis server on Xbox. :sparkler:

Then you and I must be in rare company. The only bug my server got was the 0 Grit Thrall conversion. Everything else works like clockwork.

Still sucks for everybody else though.

Should have known that the one troll in the thread was a console player. Gotta say, if they ever open up modding to consoles, you all have painted a bleak picture of what we should expect over the years and given us every reason not to have our mods available on console platforms

From a PlayStation fanboy, adherent and follower up to the PS4: the word “Mod” is like saying the name of the Devil herself. It took me weeks of Steam discussions to stop thinking of Mods as Cheats.

It’s not a conversion issue, there was simply no converstion taking place at all. All follower data is as it was before the update so the reason they don’t have Grit is because that stat didn’t exist so there is no record for it in the database.

Posted a “fix” here if you want, basically it’ll take the agility stat of already existing followers and duplicate it as their grit value:

Forgive my ignorance, but your “fix” only works in single player or on a server that you have admin rights to (not Officials), is that correct?

Nice post btw! :+1:

Yes of course, you have to have access to the database file, so only single player or private servers.
Though who knows, maybe Funcom will run a similar-ish command on their officials once things settle down a bit

Actually I play on both Xbox and PC. I am just not dumb enough to trust mods made or updated before an update or expansion goes live because you never know what may be screwed up. BTW stating fact isn’t trolling.

Mods updated before the patch with the latest dev kit is fine. They released the dev kit days before the patch. Granted the first dev kit had issues. Majority of mods were worked on before the patch went live, including Pippi. Some mods were posted before the patch went live that morning.

Even if they release the updated mod after the patch, does not mean its all working properly. Either case a mod that isn’t working should have its issues reported to the mod author, along with a detailed report.

Many mods that were not updated, still appears to be working. Granted, I did not do a full test either on them but they have not crashed the game and able to maneuver in places with those mods being used. One notable exception which I am still researching what is the cause.

and thats exactly what was needed but not worry the one and only great amunet has replaced all those missing tables in the devkit

Recent update:

Having issues with Hosav UI (which I know is being updated, although EEWA is priority fix). It crashes the game when you get near or start a fight with NPCs. Thralls/Pets are not effected by this issue from what I can tell.

Suggestion remove Hosav until its updated.

I am still running bunch of tests with some help from others.
