Moving while hitting

I think there’s something missing in the fighting mechanic, the combos are ok, but I was wondering, why when you press the attack the PC needs to stop his movements? I think this is not realistic neither entertaining.
I think the fighting would have a huge improvement if the attacks didn’t stop the movement, maybe just a slow during the hit of like 50%, what do you think about it?

It’s definitely needed, especially to deal with running enemies. Right now, there’s no way for wolves or hyenas to overtake a player that keeps moving, nor can we successfully attack purge enemies that decide to charge without stopping.

Adding attacks on the run would go a long way towards making the AI more of a threat in PvE.

That’s exactly what I think, it would improve a lot both pve and pvp!
I also think that some of the slower weapons could also have the chance to shine again

There already is a partial form of that if you sheathe your weapon as soon as you hit or miss a hit, since you recover instantly and can start sprinting again.

Maybe something akin to Dark Souls’ sprinting, rolling and backstep attacks might remedy this, each weapon in the Dark Souls’ series had a unique attack if the attack button was pressed during a roll, sprint or backstep. For example, the longsword’s sprint attack was a running horizontal slash, the roll attack was a stab and the backstep was a lunging slash.

With some very standard weapons I can strike and move. I have no problem with that.

I agree with you. A while ago I posted about having some sort of charge attack. It has always seemed ridiculous to me that all you need to do to make yourself almost untouchable is go into a brief jog. There needs to be a way to counter this both for player characters and npcs. Dodging should still be a viable mechanic to avoid being hit, but a light jog that doesn’t use stamina? Doesn’t seem right that you can avoid any attack this way.

You can strike and then move, that’s a pretty obvious statement. I mean moving -while- you do the hit, like it actually was before they introduced the combos

that could also be a thing, but it would be more difficult I think (?) not sure

with that you just interrupt the attack and you can sprint after a while, but that’s not even remotely the same ^^
