Multiple Issues w/ Thralls

Figured I’d make a comprehensive post of the different issues I’ve been experiencing with my thralls in game in case anyone else has experienced similar. Some issues I’ve seen mentioned previously, others I have not.

  • Thralls not able to be placed at crafting benches thus not able to complete journey or achievement. This one is known as I’ve seen other posts regarding it, but adding it here for the sake of being thorough.

  • Thralls constantly eating from the feeding pot/trough, but no change seeming to take place. In addition animal thralls/followers take food out of the trough despite it not being in their diet range and take a lot of it leaving nothing for those who specifically need that food type, as well as not balancing the amount . Food ends up just spoiling due to it rather than being evenly consumed.

  • Thralls falling through the floor. Now, as an avid Ark player, things clipping into the floor is nothing Im not used to. However, this seems to be inconsistent on when and why it happens in Conan and sometimes I’m able to see enough of them peeking through that I can command them to stand guard and pull them out of the ground. Other times I’ve only been able to retrieve them through admin ghost commands and making them follow me out of a wall/cliff side. And lastly, I experienced a thrall going missing despite them being marked as next to me and assumed either of the above scenarios have happened. I used the admin commands to ghost to check to see if the thrall was in the ground or the tree next to me but can not find her at all. I eventually gave up and went to bed. Relogging does not fix this, teleporting or commanding follow does not fix this. It’s extremely frustrating how often its been happening as of late.

  • Thrall’s death counter changing/inaccurate. Yesterday I was out adventuring with my thralls and found ourselves in some stick situations. Both thralls had “died” twice. After the first down both of them were marked with the singular death marker as it should. The second time however after some traveling I noticed one of the thralls who should have a double death marker had no marker at all anymore. And the other thrall that should also have a double death marker was showing it as the third (as in last chance life). Not sure why this happened but its frustrating seeing as the one that gained the extra penalty is the one out of the two that is rarer/more important. Not sure if there is some kind of gameplay explanation for this one I’m missing being new to the game or if this is also a buggy issue others are experiencing.

  • Thralls teleporting back to the last place they were told to “stand guard”. This one was funny at first but is getting tiring. The first time this happened I had persihed and my friend had put my stuff from my body on my thralls and told them to stand guard there for my return. When I got back there I got my stuff, put my thralls on follow and continued adventuring. Hours later I’m back at base and doing things and notice my thralls are missing. I track them on the map and they are at the place I had died. I thought this was odd, but retrieved them. This happened numerous other times anywhere I had told them to stand guard anywhere I had been previously despite continuing on my adventure with them after, commanding to stop following etc. So now I’m in the habit of making sure I set them all to stand guard when I’m back home to prevent this from happening and it seems to have worked so far for the most part, but it’s a pain as this should not be an added effort needed to prevent losing my thralls halfway across the map after running across it, questing, etc.

  • Thralls inventory being full while having an “empty” slot/invisible item. This one is minor in comparison but still annoying. Sometimes when transferring items to a thrall inventory it will say the inventory is full despite showing an empty slot. After a while of this happening I found that if I “remove all” and then add them back one of the items I acquired was in their inventory despite it now showing up, hence the full empty slot. Other times it seems to show an inaccurate amount of rows of items that will fix itself when emptied to below that threshold. Like an extra row will show but you cant add to it, but if you remove items the row will disappear.

If I missed any issues specific to thralls I will edit it in/add it to the comments but I think this covers the main ones I wanted to address.

For context. These are on a dedicated server, and restarts are frequently implemented so none of the above I believe are due to server lag/needing a restart

i know there are a lot of issues and threads so Im not expecting a big discussion or feedback on this one but I’d appreciate if people could let me know which seem to shared/widespread issues and which others may be due to something client side on my end if no one else is experiencing it. That’s literally how that feature works :slight_smile: Stand guard is essentially → Set home location
Every time that you tell them to stop following and then you go out of range of them for a longer period of time, they will return home.

So to recap:

  • Stop following - used out in the field to temporarily make them hang back
  • Stand guard - change their permanent home location

That will simply be spoiled food most of the time… If you fill up a thralls inventory and one of their food items spoil, that will create a new item in their inventory. This will temporarily expand their inventory capacity, but it isn’t shown on the UI since it’s in a slot that doesn’t have a UI slot. In this case if you were to remove an item from their inventory, technically they’re still maxed out even thou you visually just made an empty slot.
Removing items and reopening the inventory will make it show. And yea it can be slightly annoying / confusing.


The rest are indeed known issues for the most part and have several bug reports

If I may support:
“empty slot”, This seems to be common that they want an extra slot open because most thralls “create” their own food now, such as Fighters creating their own gruel, or Rocknose creating stone. So that one makes sense code wise to see an “always” empty slot, I can appreciate that.
“Standing guard” Many times this happened to me, I found that if I had them stand guard in the volcano while I did things, they would end up at the last stand guard, at my house, in an hour. So I would go retrieve them but they were already home. I looked at this as a convenience and just ignored that it could affect you negatively. I get it. That’s not right. They should always go to the last stand guard position in the save menu. So it sounds to me like the new stand guard position won’t take hold unless the server becomes inactive and saves. I don’t know for sure.
“Thralls death counter” Let me tell you about one worse. I found that if I did the warhammer on both zerkers, they would try to do the exact moves on top of each other, I can not have the same weapons on the same thralls for sure. They just stand there until they get hit. The death markers are frustrating , 1 and 1, and all of a sudden none and 3 with no further deaths, this needs to be addressed.
“Stuck in floors” Yep… often, I have to move stations and pull floors to get them out.
