Navigating your base with worker thralls having inventories

In addition to worker thralls being a part of the new settlement, they have inventories - they act like other thralls in this regard.

As a PVP player that works in tight spaces, maximization of that space is vital for workflow, ease of access to important items and avoidance of additional stresses via quick and thoughtful base design. Trust me, it might look like a mess but for someone who makes the mess it is in its rightful place

I realize I am a minority. But I also know that there are PVE players who build small too and RPers that might also maximize small places for their storyline.

However, this is something that has been an annoyance since I started testing
and I think it’s going to be a pain for anyone regardless of base design.

I never paid this much attention before but a thralls inventory interaction area is bigger than I realized.

So if you intend your workers to be toiling away in your settlement they will get in the way. Constantly. If they work as intended, then they’ll be body blocking you. If the settlement system breaks, wherever this happens, they’ll be in the way.

IF they stay on a bench, they’ll be in the way there too. My gosh, my patience is thin lol This is a my biggest gripe here.

So I thought I’d be smart eh? I’d emote them sitting down. Well, because I didn’t really use emotes aside from taunting and trying to be silly myself, I didn’t realize that the thralls retain their standing inventory interaction areas
 sigh.

What is interesting? If you attack the area above an emote sitting thrall it doesn’t hurt them, you have to have your crosshair directly on them. I’m not really sure if based on this factor I should file it as a bug report as I realize there are limitations to the system
 maybe.

Anyway, just something for everyone to think about once the update to live comes out. You might have to make some slight adjustments in your gameplay as I did. Or, be glad that the settlement is broken and they can be placed inside of 1x1s deep in the base XD

One issue I have with the roaming thralls system, is that they always walk AWAY from the station, but never back to it. In my opinion the animation should be a loop. The thrall would go away, do stuff, then eventually walk back to actually work at the crafting station.

I dont like how the animation seems currently one-way only. I think crafters actually crafting should be key to the appearance of “living settlements”. Currently they craft maybe 2 seconds and then walk away.

OT: I doubt this is much of a consideration for Funcom, since you can craft without crafting thralls
And only a few T4 crafter thralls are actually needed for what they produce.

My understanding is that, though they walk away, they are still attached to their respective workstations. When it lands, you will see in the craftstation’s panel, all the Crafters whose range of effect on the workstation, working that workstation.

@Kikigirl I have seen players on my servers already adapting bases by going up where they can’t go bigger on the footprint? You’ll have already experienced something similar with the Taverns

When they work they cycle reasonably in my experience. Staying at a rest spot or bench for upwards of 5 minutes.

The settlement system breaks most often at benches and beds.

Full complement is: priest, taskmaster, cook, carpenter, alchemist, smelter, sorcerer, blacksmith, tanner and armorer. More than a few.

I don’t think Funcom’s intention is to make player’s not have worker thralls.

This is correct, a 19 block radius currently

I’m not sure what you mean by this.

As in build more levels vertically - if that works

was tempted to hop on the testlive and build my 2x2 to see how the new thrall AI handles that, kind of afraid to

Ahh, yes, I get it now. Yes, vertically no difference as far as I can tell.

My base is definitely no 2x2 like yours but cramped. They just stand as close to a needs based station or bench and still use it. Even up or under others. You can’t move the placeable if that is the case, an error will pop up that it is in use.
