Yeah, using controller, seemed like a lot of needless shifting and moving about to get it all done. I much prefer the current system.
As a PS player, and someone who fights better with a controller, I agree with you. It would be nice if we could have the old way back, in Creative Moad.
Yeah, I only play Conan with a controller. Same with XIV and ESO.
I typically only use MK for stuff like Terraria or games like that. Too many decades using controllers.
I’m a console player and just started playing this game after giving it up for the past year. I hate the new building system, I have zero clue how its better for console players. I cant even figure out how to delete things, you cant just pick it up and re use anything, you have to re make everything.
No because the majority and Ten Cent / Funcom disagree with you and the hunger games. Signed - President Snow
you click on the item select return to inventory. Some return however building components break down to their base materials to stop people from trading to those who don’t have the DLC’s. You can thank violators for that. Regardless it was also needed to fix the crafting index size. The new system is easy to use unless you’re a complete idiot.
I think the majority of the whiners are exploiters who want to trade building pieces to others. Other then that their complaints hold no water after years of complaining of crafting and inventory management.
One of the things that attracted me the most about Conan exiles, was it’s building mechanics, I love all the fighting, love all the exploring, but when it comes down to it, I am a builder.
3.0 is quite a change! lol…
First initial knee-jerk thoughts I don’t mind saying were along the lines of… “wtf?”
Especially when I saw my chests now full of backpacks… (that was unnerving)
I’ve since had more of an opportunity to build and get more familiar with it (well , the bits that weren’t invisible at any rate )
It’s not quite second nature to me as yet, but I really don’t think it’s as bad as some make out.
A more organised lay-out in the guise of a building menu , is not unwelcome, rather than the hot mess it was before (c’mon man it so was, lol) - I am still on the fence with regards to the new building hammer, not sure why it was necessary, and it can be irritating when you realise you’ve forgotten it,
But , as I become more familiar with it , the entire thing will become more second nature I’m sure.
Oh, absolutely love the new creative mode, and the toggable option to BUILD ANYWHERE! WOOT!
I read someone mention something about the ‘instant’ build mechanic feeling un-immersive. I can definitely see that. Actually crafting the building pieces, and seeing them craft did feel like you were actually creating something, I get that, but this new system is quicker, and I guess that is the trade off.
Perhaps that is something that can be introduced later for those that prefer that aspect (dunno for sure, gonna have to ask the devs on that)
On the whole, while I am still feeling my way through it, I think its a positive change, but it does means we’re all going to have to adapt. Give it a chance (bugs aside)
Oh, there is something I don’t like, and I suspect is part of the reason a lot of it was done this way, is that we can no longer share DLC items with our clan-mates or friends. Not a fan of that I’m afraid, that’s just mean.
The new system reminds me of Valhiem or No Mans Sky.
I like how everything is organized. A much needed improvement to the old system.
Buttons could use a bit of work. It does feel kinda clunky on kb/m.
Actually thats fair, I thought it was clunky too, but I wasn’t sure how much of that was just me adjusting to everything (and I use a an xbox controller)
Just to clarify, the building hammer and the new “instant” construction mechanism sucks, it eliminates the crafting joy out of the whole process, and it creates additional burden of running around with heavy resources that you have to figure out how to construct in hostile environments, that’s not what I call “safe” crafting, which is especially true on PVP servers. Aside from that, why break something that worked great? Players were happy with the old crafting system, now you have at least half of the players unhappy with it, and even comparing this to when WOW got destroyed by “unasked” changes or additions to the game, which of course led to many, many players quitting the game… My advice to the developers is this, don’t break what’s working, and instead focus on fixing the bugs, adding content, and making the game more fun. The hammer / change of how buildings are constructed destroyed my joy of this game, and this isn’t just me…
This would be great. I dont think that the new system is bad.It could be even better (my opion) if we had the possibilitie to favorite six or five pieces and use scroll to swtich between them, while holding the hammer, would make things more easy, pressing F everytime to swtich blocks is a little boring.
I love how you lay out in precise detail all the things you find wrong with the new Building System and exactly why Funcom should change it back.
Yeah, I know. I just found the old way easier. I could just open my inventory and go to the hand-crafting side to see the mats. Now I have to move the construction hammer to my hotbar, equip it, and then either open the catalog to look at the mats or try to build the thing to see what I’m missing.
And yeah, I know I could also Alt-Tab to the wiki, but we’re talking about in-game mechanics
Now that I had no idea about that. Thanks!
Yesterday i noticed some odd behavior, when you cant build a block it do not show any message usually. I tried to place a block and said in some croweded area, and got “this land is already claimed”, ok moved far away with the hammer equiped, and the message continues, moved more far and same message, then checked with F key and noticed i have not the mats needed. The claim message only disapeared when removed the hammer and equiped it again, but now the block just become withe. A bit confusing but it is a minor bug i think.
Oh, wow. Since I’m not an idiot, I’ll just say its annoying and pointless to change up a whole building system that worked just fine. I’m sure people will find a way to cheat no matter what. From what I have found, most items break down. I guess they made it like ARK Survival in a way now that I think about it. The hammer is just so odd to me. I have to click on the hammer, left bumper, then left trigger or right trigger then right bumper or left bumper and then you might have what you want.
Amen, I’m with ya on all of this.
The Place button doubles as the Remove button.
Hold R1, the stuff glows red, tap R1 to delete/remove.
Hold R1 again, it glows green, tap to place.
Use R3 and target anything to “copy” it and start placing more.
Just switch the once. As long as another piece is already placed nearby, target it and you can “copy” it like a paint dropper does color in an art program.
You can hotswap anything that works with this system. So like, foundations, walls, walls with windows, roof pieces, fence foundations, stairs, fences. You can instantly pop between these and keep building without ever having to reopen the L1 menu for it.
