Please please please bring back the old purge, at least as an option! PVE is boring as hell without it. I don’t want to quit, but what is the point of paying for a PVE server without the classic purge? I await the return of my favorite game mechanic EVER! Tell me it’s possible and I will pay for my server forever.
Oh yes… i really miss the old purge. Really wish we just had the option to trigger the old purge and not some weird AI that does a straight line to your base and gets easily destroyed. I miss the old chaos of having the Beast Tamers with theyr mamoths or the bloody Cimmerian Berserker Purge that nearly took down half of my castle with them doing a surprise atack from the insside out. Was it broken? YES. Did it add an even more fun factor because it was broken? F*** YEEES. Oh and the blody rocknose purge that destroyed 1 full newbie base and half of a base when i started playing. Il never forget those moments.
Please devs bring back the old purge. The old purge was stressfull at times but thats what makes them memorable. Not some half broken AI that you can spam for hours. i dont even remember a good moment from this new purges. its just hack to the left and slash to the right. or just Afk while some labyrinth does all the work.
This new purge system is boring and a community killer, i simply do not have the words to express how much i hate it. Since AoW started i have watched the server i play on slowly die. Can’t see myself playing for much longer. AoW and the fall through bug have, for myself and many, many others, killed this game … it’s just no fun anymore
I wouldn’t mind the new system if there was more variety of different enemy types.
And if we would get different purges depending on the location we built our base in.
AND we still could get the purge thralls.
But don’t get me started on the technical aspect of the new purge… ![]()

If they could combine the two. We can summon purges whenever we want, and the old purges that spawned by faction based on the location, with Human fighters and crafters Thrallable again. The very last old purge I had was Frost Giants, with one Frost Giant, lots of standard Sabretooths and Aesir. Knocked out and captured some good named crafters, and Dances With Bears in The Exiles Lands. After Age of War, send The Stygian Army back where they came from, and let us have the old Purge factions again.
Couldn’t do the old purge because it wouldn’t spawn. Can’t do this purge without crashing an official server. ![]()

Please restore the old Purge system, only fix the spawning so that it actually starts and sends thralls at a player’s base. Fix the pathing so thralls actually do attack the player’s gates and walls (no spawning on rooftops when the gate is available). And make the Siptah Convergence Trap available (and buildable) on Conan Exiles map so anyone who doesn’t want a Purge can turn it off.
Please fix and bring back the old Purge system.
Instead of making the AI better and improving the purge they listened to cry babies and really bad players who swarm around Conan Exiles and catered to them by removing the whole thing. It was one of the most interesting features in this game.
Yeah, I think the important part is the “fix and…”.
The old Purge was entertaining, when it happened to work properly. A mass of big snakes spawning on my rooftop, or any wave of any purge spawning inside the terrain mesh, was hardly what I’d call fun.
I had purges spawn on rooftops before, and it’s not as fun as a good pathing attack. Talk about a desperate fight, though! For me, however, I found that bases built on limited space tend to do just that. My choices for base placement have changed as a result; I try to make my bases defendable as I can while still allowing for a healthy spawn area for the purge crew. The new purge is actually even less capable of a clear spawn, it just lets you know that sooner. I had to make all of my bases defendable in the old purge, and that was a fun challenge. You never knew where the attack was going to be! Such fun!

Having built in Watcher many times it was a fight to the death when that Razer guy’s kitchen staff spawned inside the heavily fortified for PVP base… Ugh.
When the old purge worked right it was great but that was rarely the case for me.
It was working excellent for me. It’s true that pvp in times with multi personnel in clans demands big bases in difficult points of the map. So yes in these cases i had multiple purges spawning behind green walls or on rooftop. Our thralls however could chase the purges behind green walls and our rooftops were always full with expendable Teimos.
I loved the builds on frozen areas, especially when purges had clean paths to approach, it was almost always Cimmerian beast tamers and they were coming with the white dragon and multiple named crafters.
On pve servers i could lead the purge wherever i wish and always have a successful purge without any of the side effects the old system had.
But…
The new purge rocks and i don’t bend in comments like this below …

Because old system or new system it lacks of perfection and in many cases the new system is way worst than the old one. Yet all this conversation stands to the technical aspect like my friend @UNfun said, because the general idea of this war or tower defense like the op said is a fantastic multi-player reason with tons of fun.
Devs on the other hand never said anything of burying the old purge system. One day i believe this system will return because like @Wonka said in a private conversation, the old purge system was providing “fear” to the players, the healthy ones at least, enough to keep them back and build something they can control and i find this opinion correct.
So i agree to the return of the old system but not before the new system will be absolutely perfect!
Then you were one of the few. 9/10 bugged for me enemies spawned in in my keep, on my keep, or max leveled, but they only actually came up to it once.
A lot of people had the same issue. Bases wiped by buggy purges.
The new purge is even more buggy just in different ways. The old purge didn’t crash servers for one.
At least with the new system I can just opt out. Don’t get me wrong, it was fun on testlive. Practically empty server with no life long mega builds. But on live your options are couldn’t find a place to set up, just bugs out, or crashes the server.
Unless you are using it to grief some one than it works flawlessly. Which for some reason sounds right for funcom.
Oh ya, I lived in constant fear some bugged out purge was going to level my base and lose everything and nothing I can do but watch it happen.
I don’t find new purgue yet so bad, even with those attacks all straight ahead, maybe is my placement of the treasure chest and the environment around…i use vanir totems to make them open wide and don’t go all together, also i use destroyer constructios,for the same thing,making enemies goes a little bit more separated than a whole bunch of attackers against a whole bunch of defenders…now i have some,“supposed best”,thralls…i need to check tier 9 and 10 to see what kind of enemies attack, what kind of path ways NPCs use to attack treasure…but it is funny.
Worst ever is maelstrom calamity attackers…i just build a platform with a tower in the middle…and thralls around…WORST EVER…last day, the maelstrom was set to attack normaly,then i raised stats a little,today I have raised up primordials number,minimun constructions and other things to see calamity monsters,biggers ones… Yesterday was almost cool, most of the attackers appears some meters before my platform and you can see how they go straight to destroy walls (destroyer constructions), some monsters spawn just inside fundations, so fundations goes break and you can not do anything, you can not kill the monster before it destroy the walls…you can not raise fundation, just a platform at ground level…yesterday, my first try to see calamity moster was nearly cool…not all the monsters spawn inside in the middle of fundations…today,in a different place,with a diferent platform,with some parts with two levels of fundations, calamity monsters just spawn inside my platform…and destroy a lot of fundations without a single hit…even my lost dungeon tower…i have some warriors…and monsters are not a problem…but,one point down for the game,monsters destroy base spawning inside bricks…not attacking coming from some meters before and hitting walls.
Anyone knows where can i find an actualized guide,i don´t get the way to make thralls use correctly bow…and some other approaching techniques.

Everybody is speaking ftom his own experience and i totally understand and believe what you say. I just never had the “honor” to get constantly bugged purges but mostly because…
It was easy for me and that’s not a lie m8 neither brag . My purges were hitting to my most busy outpost always but i was always aware to make it on empty space without any other build around. Plus when i had “aggressive” neighbors that i couldn’t convince to take a safe distance from me then i was packing and move my whole base. I didn’t play on free pve servers to establish domains, the other players had exactly the same rights as i had. Plus it was nothing for me to change base location, it was fun.

I am sorry, i had only once a similar experience to be wiped from a Cimmerian Berserker purge but it was all my mistake, not a bugged purge.
So again, i respect these reports and opinions and i don’t go against them, but my experience was the one i explained.
Was it skill? Was it luck? I don’t know. I am a player not a dev to explain why i had smooth experience with the old purge system.
As was my experience with the new purges on testlive. Not the same experience I had on live.
BUT with the new purges I can just chose not to participate; more or less ![]()
Or to make as much as you wish, define the difficulty and have fun with friends “now” without waiting for days to fill your purge meter and an hour when the system decide when you’ll get a purge.
No, the new purge system has many better things in the aspect of fun than the old one, i just wish it would function better for starters my brother, that’s all.
I learned pretty quick being clan leader that big bases were not a good idea because of ToC and gaming Zendesk. Instead, I relied on permastructures, fortifying entry points and player defence at those points.
So, issues with it being PVP were not because the bases were big (because that wasn’t even a thing), it’s because I built in tightly confined spaces above the ground that the purge couldn’t path to correctly. There must have been a code in it for contingency that bugged because they were never supposed to spawn inside all 4 floors… The core of my bases were weak because if the fortification was broken by players then we’d lost already.
So the purge would obliterate the altar that ensured our protections, bags falling everywhere, damage or break everything without having even breached an outer wall. Didn’t matter if the whole clan was on, it was usually a huge endeavour to fix it all afterwards.
The reasons I do not like the new purge are multiple. The biggest is that my access to unique thralls is gone unless I am on Siptah and they’re so poorly coded that it crashes servers. There’s nothing in the purges, even if it worked properly, that I “want” or “need” in my playthroughs.

In this part “easy” private servers were better. Not big grind to build something big or to fully prepare your army and stronghold. I know the philosophy of official servers on the pvp aspect and i respect it, but there’s lots of things that annoyed me like spawn kills, especially when my console needed almost a minute to get me out of each loading screen

Yet i get what you say about the purge path mechanism. It use to lack in “creativity”, if i won’t find path then i’ll spawn random. It was wrong, no doubt about it.
This is not bad actually, yet i believe that there’s nothing you need so far. Other than that the new purge system is exposing the player a lot in the pvp aspect, so it would be not so good this purge to be mandatory for pvp.
Don’t get me wrong but there’s years that the pvp community is between less pve and more pve. Yet i believe that less grind and less pve gives more time for pvp.
