I don’t agree that the new purge is showing anything even close to PVP. The new purges on PVP and PVE by and large are very directed, orchestrated, controlled events. Purge bases being common, long strips of foundations with fences, and the sole purpose is for grinding certain recipes on PVE and beefing up main bases with thrall fodder on PVP.
The old purge, when it worked as intended, was random and would take many players by surprise. This was more PVP than the new purge by far.
I’m just addressing the elephant in the room stelagel, not trying to be mean.
On this forum I can be attacked by crowds of fanboys, but the rest of internet shares my views.
They divided servers into 3 categories and on top of that they made 3 difficulty settings.
I wrote that in multiple posts, Funcom should utilise and further develop these settings instead of dumbing down and ruining the game for half of the community.
They seem to consult things (if they ever do) with small group of yes-men and fanboys similar to their youtuber minister of propaganda eradication.
This guy is a complete wimp in PvE and PvP and he admits it in every video he made.
And Funcom chose to cater to this kind of players exclusively, new building sets, new building sets and new building sets - who needs this garbage, they look out of place in this game anyway?
The only pathethic thing was him saying that he was not able to farm New Asagarth and these nerfs to PvE in AOS were necessary.
It was very easy to cheese NA in multiple ways, it was one of the few challenging areas on a map which otherwise lacks real end-game zone.
But anyway let’s face the facts, Conan started as a fun to play game with amazing atmosphere and we all expected it to grow and expand.
It’s being scaled down instead and every expansion brings something new but also lots of disappointment at the same time.
But most importantly they keep killing the original ‘feel’ of Conan Exiles.
The original purge was a core mechanics and a great feature which distinguished Conan Exiles from other similar games.
If anything it should’ve been fixed but not removed.
But they catered to audible group of players crying “oh no, the purge destroyed a section of wall in my base, I will never recover from this, I spent 5 minutes harvesting stone to build that wall, Funcom are you crazy, remove that”.
This is why I am saying about cry babies, I don’t feel that calling someone a cry baby, for them indeed crying like little babies, is offensive.
Anyway Funcom should wake up and stop removing things from this game.
They should bring back the original guy who lead the dev team.
new purge system needs far more variety of fighter / archer thralls, the pool needs to be much more varied, and there is PLENTY of thralls that could be added to the pool of options. level 10 purges only has 2 fighters that are worth it.
they need to introduce crafter thralls too, how i would fix it, those thralls will be aggresive, and needs to Be KO and put on wheels,
it also needs to have their own loot of placeables that are unique to purges, or those that cant be found elsewhere.
right now, once you figure it out, level 10 purges are easy, even as a solo player.
Oh i didn’t mean it this way, excuse my English . I ment that the new purge system on high lvls is very demanding and punishing, so it will be very difficult for a player to answer both purge and raid. Then again, the huge npc camp is very visible and that’s the “expose” part i was speaking .
After lvl 8 the purge has lots of kaboom, it’s gooood, lol.
And caused a lot of people to quit. Seems people have forgotten the biweekly “I quit” threads from people that lost everything to a bugged purge.
But I wouldn’t call the old purge a core mechanic, it’s an event. The game runs just fine with out it. It might be a feature you liked, but it was in no way a core mechanic.

What you are referring to is a majority of players. What we; the less then 10% of the player base, say on the forum has little influence over the game unless it is the opinion of an over whelming majority of players

What it needs is to work dependably and not crash servers.
The Purge was a popular event, people on internet when talking Conan Exiles were mentioning the purge as one of the nice things other games did not have.
Let them quit and go back to Sims 4, Conan Exiles was an easy game from the start.
They could have fixed the purge, they could have established servers without the Purge, nope, removing the whole thing was cheaper.
Not to mention dead servers where people only refresh their builds every 2 weeks or so.
There is an elephant in the room - Funcom does not know how to manage their games, servers and community.
That stupid shop is the best example. Dumbest thing I ever seen in any game.
As I said before there are different “realm” types, there are difficulty settings, everyone can be happy, but it’s cheaper to force the same content and changes upon everyone.
These are legit concerns not products of my imagination.
And why was the purge removed from private servers as well? I paid for the game (twice, I’ve got separate server admin account), I want features I paid for back.
It’s not majority of players. Come on, Funcom does not play Conan Exiles neither they interact with our community.
If anything they have small circle of fanboys (like eradication) who are going to say “oh wow” any time Funcom serves them another portion of dog poo.

Last time I did a runabout I found several new builds, so there are people active.

Conan’s bazaar and battle passes are absolutely nothing new or even uncommon in gaming.
I don’t have issues with in game stores, or season passes, did/do have issues with how funcom did them.
funcom seems to have forgotten to set thralls to the 20 day vacation scheduled. You really want them messing with the settings?
Purges are an on/off server setting. funcom could easily customize servers right in the settings.
Each game type; PVE, PVP, PVE-C has an easy, average, hard setting.
Difficulty presets for the server:
Civilized: Easy
Decadent: Normal
Barbaric: Hard
How many people would like an iron man PVP server? No buffs, barbaric.
How many would like Mr. Rogers neighborhood PVE? Heavily buffed, civilized.
Me, I like straight vanilla. Hell till they changed the stamina my stats where all the same, neutral.
You have no more way of verifying that opinion then I do mine. Turning it off on the officials before we got the new “sieges” pretty well says it all.

The old purge was bugged more often than not. Like for example, once I got a “Nest of snakes” and they just got stuck somewhere outside of the base and nothing happened. Woo, fun…
Old purge had a purge meter btw, so you knew when it was coming. Outside of the ability to get a purge thrall, there was just nothing to be excited about. It prefered to avoid it entirely.
The new purge is opt in, so I can just pass on it entirely if I want to.
When I do opt in, it usually works. Thats already a massive step forward from the old purge. Yes, they run from their base in one line to the target, but atleast they move. I’ve also learned not to use explosives or gas, that tends to lead to crashes.
I’d like to see them work on the new purge and add stuff or improve on it instead of going back to that buggy nonsense.
summer holidays are always calm. I was server admin for a different game for years and summer was always when the server had fewer players.
Maybe people did stop playing Conan Exiles, but summer never leads to an increase anywhere.
Wait until September, October to judge, thats when players usually return, if they do. If they dont, you can make a point. Its one of the reasons why so many AAA publishers aim to release games in Oct/Nov rather than summer or just before.
Someone asked about the original idea for the purge,
Originally it was supposed to be part of the sandstorm. The intro video still has the idea captured where the sandstorm would bring various evil creatures. Originally the map didnt have the swamp or the highlands, it was just the southern part. so unless you were somewhere at the northern edge of the old map, you’d have to deal with the sandstorm.
That was abandoned as unfeasible(at the time) and a next idea was to have an army or force that would enter the map and more or less randomly roam around.
And when that couldnt be done, they came up with the first purge or ‘old purge’. By this time, we had the frozen north, though. Mind, this was when they had no mounts either and in fact didnt intend to add them because it was too hard to do(thats what the devs said back then). They had the obelisks instead.
Me and my girl love playing the purge now actually. Back then it barely activated and it was random even if I didnt have much to loot, it would attack another base. It was too random. Now it makes sense from a lore perspective. You have wealth they want. However for those that loved the monsters raid. I think they should be a check you can click or press for those wanting the optional older purge. However if I had to choose between the old or new I would say the new purge definitely a huge improvement. The tower defense in a way is fun but it can be overwhelming or easy depending or your wealth. Overalls its gives alot of more options so very happy with it but yes an optional button would be nice for those that loved the older version if it was possible.

Stop blaming other players for what devs decide. Every decision is their own and only them have the responsibility of their actions, no player, no community!

I don’t believe any player asked the changes we saw the last year, not that i hate these changes, i have zero problem with them.
The only changes they do, but pressed from the community, have to do with pvp fair play, not pve.
Ok these changes remove cool things from pve too, but fair play must be in front and pve do not lack of coolness.
Yet it’s not players we should blame, but dev decisions that lead to this “complain row”.

We are all paying costumers having fun with this game and we all want something different . There’s nothing to blame here , it’s logical.
Very hard yes but would become completely inconsequential once you pull the gold since you can stop the purge this way immediately.
The fact that you can call the purge on a whim, control it and there’s an easy killswitch makes it nothing more than a hollow novelty, imho.
Neither the old nor the new really hit that oomph I’d expect. They’re too easily exploited and have too many issues (especially the bugs in the new one).
I’m already in a fake world with my fake character pretending to fight skeletons and dragons… if the new purge wants to be fake in this fake world why not have simply given them a phantom theme? Would have felt more honest.
This is not true. I checked top5 games I played recently and they all have like 15-20% increase since June.
It’s because they know people are broke during holidays, so they release once people recover from holidays, and there is Christmas on the horizon - shopping spree and gifts for kids.
They messed up the engine so bad that it could not cope with loading surroundings for fast moving players, this is why there was no mounts for a period of time.
Exactly, there was no harm in leaving it alone on private servers. Owners could toggle it on/off and the toggle was always there.
I believe that we are dealing with something similar to what was happening in Star Wars the OId Republic (the most expensive MMO ever made).
BioWare did not talk to community, even more, they made a secret forum only for devs and small group of fanboys to consult with.
Consulting things with yes-men is never a good choice.
The Result was constant rage on the official forum. Until they gave up and gave the game to another studio. Now the game finally starts to feel right, but after 10 years of BioWare it may be too late to save it.
There was several solutions to solve the purge issue. Servers without it, or a toggle for each player to disable it.
I toggle the new Purge every now and then, but it’s much less fun.
I liked the diverse biome-based purges. We enjoyed fighting that rocknose boss in the last wave, or dragons up in the north.
The new purge is very repetitive, and it’s too controlled. I want them to pose a challenge, be bloodthirsty, demolish my base. And currently it’s like - ups sorry, our meteor destroyed your stairs, so now we can’t enter the base anymore, so we go home, sorry again bro…
They already have all the code of old purge, just adding a toggle to it would solve all the issues other players may have.
And once more we could fight with enemy who “is serious” about raiding your base, we could hunt these unique thralls in the middle of battle.
It was fun, it was actually lots of fun for everyone on my server, we had it set this way that active players had even 2 purges in one RL day.
I don’t want “soft” purge “on demand” and I don’t want unique thralls to just come to my bar to be hired.
I respect that others hated it, but for me and my dudes it was one of the most enjoyable parts of the game.

It’s a misassumption to think school has any real influence on Conan players.
Conan exiles is an adult game you’re supposed to be 18 to play. So just how is school being out going to effect player count?
So just why would the games player count change over the summer?
Yes, player count has been dwindling, but it has nothig to do with purges and everything to do with the last 2 updates have quite possibly been the second and third worst funcom has done.
Actually; when it worked right, the purge came up to your door, like sieges, just with out a camp. WHEN THEY WORKED RIGHT.
Not originally, that was added later if i recall. The old purge kind of sprang up. And i think they even climbed walls (at least once i witnessed this). And the bugs were your biggest issue based on your post than the actual mechanics. I know when it did work, it was soooo much better for risk/reward gameplay than the current meat grinder they have now.
He’s refusing to see things and he’s defending them. They are just some company with a job to provide entertainment to us, they are not his family.

For me it’s just sad.
I can express what I expect myself from this game and which changes I do not like. And he just focuses on me, not on the game, not on adding to discussion.

I’m not defending anyone, pointing out how wrong you are is not supporting funcom, just means you’re wrong. If you can’t accept being wrong that is your issue.

The simple fact i don’t have to opt in to the new sieges makes it superior in leaps and bounds in my opinion.
The 4th time I lost a keep to the bugged purges I went to a private server that had them turned off. And people know who much I abhor private servers
If I wanted to worry about my base being leveled I’d be playing PVP.
I prefer the new sieges because they are so structured and I love structure. I was having a great time with them on testlive, they rarely bugged out. On live it’s a completely different bag full of cats.
