Well apparently someone has figured out how to use the purge mechanics to raid bases in PVE.
This is why we can’t have good things.
Friday morning I logged in to devastation, 1/3 of my base gone. 3 benches, 12 chest of mats and completed supplies. Rare alchemy components and named artisans. So I immediately checked the server log
I don’t have a treasury set up. I don’t do purges on live because the server is already over built and unstable. Meaning hard to find a place to build and a good chance of the server crashing before the purge is done.
So apparently some one has learned how to manipulate the purge to pull it through some ones base. This came in on my unguarded wide big back side where my compost and planters are at. At some point it drew in the fighters and pets from around my keep so lost all them The only ones left were set to doors or setting in chairs; fighters, archers.
Will funcom do anything?
Can funcom do anything?
I reported it but have 0 faith in funcom’s moderators.
I spent the day yesterday rebuilding and setting up better; not heavy for PVP, defenses, but is this a new worry for PVE?
Are peoples bases going to get purged with regularity?
Are people on PVE servers going to have to start building in PVP fashion?
Logged in this AM to no issues. On the upside I’ve got plenty of reasons to play for a while, lot of stuff to replace; food, potions, arrows. But had the rebuild done, benches back up, freezers rebuilt, and eh artisans at the benches in a matter of a few hours. Lot of empty storage.
This. It’s nothing new. However, it’s not as common as the original purge was. I was hit periodically in the past and have yet to be hit with the current one. The old system was mostly accidentally from my experience. The new one is dependent upon what kind of jerks are in your server.
Unfortunately this game has all kind of population. @tiagoturilli if i remember correctly brought this purge exploit issue first here in this forum.
I never had the “luck”, but i know that one day this may happen to me too.
I cannot say! All i can say is that i wish you were playing on PlayStation, i would be there buddy, count on it.
I am sorry m8, really!
Ya unfortunately this has been a problem since day 1 of the coffers ability to be used, since fall I believe?
How did you report it and do you know who did it?
PVP “defences” are not going to make a difference when it comes to the power of purges except for some time which will mostly be wasted effort on your part (time, resources to build). It won’t prevent you from being “offlined” and it’s not like you’ll be able to remove the coffer of the offender even if you’re online.
About the only defence would be building in a hard to purge or unpurgable location.
There’s only two fixes for this. For them to action people doing it, they have to literally catch them in the act of setting it up. Showing a log like the OP did doesn’t say anything. By itself it looks like they called a purge on themselves and utterly failed to defend against it. So you literally need a moderator online watching in a real time to see if there was actually malicious intent.
For example it wouldn’t be enough to show video evidence of it in progress, that could be construed as ‘accidental’. And in some cases could very well be. Heck, there’s even a chance it might have been, as they didn’t see the accused actually setup the purge to make it happen in this way. For all we know the purge bugged on a neighbor and attacked the wrong base. Proving intent in this case is impossible, so no there’s nothing that can be done. The OP will simply need to pick up their stuff and refarm everything they lost.
So the first fix mentioned… well not likely going to happen. Umboris has stated they don’t like to login when addressing reports and such since they have a much more efficient method. But this is mainly for building violations. For catching hackers and cheaters, well they won’t disclose those methods. For exploits like this. I don’t believe they have anything that can verify the intent of the exploits which means its going to be labeled as gameplay.
I mean sorry to say, but I can post a similar event log from a singleplayer from fabricated conditions. If I accused the OP of using an exploit to make it happen, should they be banned? That’s the sort of thoughts and decisions moderators have to make when handed evidence from players. And one that affects private servers to some extent (though they mitigate such with a birds eye view of the situation that FC mods don’t normally get the time to do).
The other thing FC can do, and this will piss off players a bit. But they can make purges fail if another player’s base is within the purge building range. This would make participating in the purge a bit of a pain in the butt since you need to find a suitably vacant area. Good luck on that on a 6 year old server or one that is somewhat popular. This would make purges a feature unavailable to… well A LOT of servers across the board.
So what I’m thinking is what the OP and others will likely have to do in PVE is pick up and build in areas for their non-purge bases in places that can’t reliably be purged. If you can’t purge your own base, its much less likely someone else can.
Ahh. Well, even T3’d with layers barely survives most purges, in old and new. Takes a lot of careful planning, followers and active defence on your part right?
I suggest moving your base to pillar type with overhang of your walls, no way a purge could reach it.
If you don’t want to change your location, try changing where in your base you keep your storage/tables/valuables. Keep them toward the middle of your base. Keep all thralls inside no matter what. Don’t have archers. Don’t have anything that can aggro purge fighters to your base (this won’t stop the exploit but can make it more difficult)
Build an outer perimeter wall around your area. Funcom does allow this (granted your area isn’t incredibly huge, or you try to wall off an entire grid block or something) but an outer wall with a gate door can help.
Think like ai. Think of ways that the AI becomes confused and despawns the purge when you try to trigger one. What trips them up? Do that.
Alternatively, building in a difficult to get to spot works too. Build on the water and utilize drawbridge when you’re offline, pull the bridge, and you’re safe.
When the AI in Conan gets confused (specifically by player buildings). It goes in a straight line. For non-purge enemies it means they kinda wander back and forth until they reset. For purge, it means they clear a line of destruction from point A to point B.
You would have to build in such a way that there is no straight line from their spawn to their target going through portions of your base. Which is why I said if you wanted to avoid this, you’d need to build in an area where the purge doesn’t even spawn. Or try to figure a place where they can’t cross your base to attack someone else.
Terrain needs to block and stymie them, not building pieces.
I’ve asked before if it is wrong, and the CE response didn’t offer any direct answer. Later, I read the devs did not have anything against that kind of attack. The rest is hearsay.
Is it still OP? The chase was usually too short when comparing to npcs. Before, we only needed one taunt to get the undivided attention of the boss. Sounds cheesy.
exactly this week i had the same problem, someone purged my base, plus killed my thralls with the spawn exploit, now transffering my base to the water, risking to get banned for buillding to much because i nned to finisg th new base to demolish the old one as i cant carry all the loot or remenber wher things was with looking the old base. I could be enjouing the event, i could be enjoying the jousting set, that i didint buy because i has to fix things and transfer stuff to keep it safe in the water, at least until funcom dont introduce another mechanic for the cheaters and exploiter could use to abuse pve.
So people dont want land claim around their base to keep their neighbors away or prevent them from building close, so they report it.
Then you end up with people building close to you.
Then this happens and people wonder how you can report the player. Good lord I needed this laugh…not at Deacon, its ■■■■■■ that it happened, but rather that the situation is possible. If it was done intentionally, well, thats what happens when you want BS building rules and cant keep your neighbors from building right beside you. It it was a bug, well, its one that got past Funcom (though not surprising.)
