I woke up to a bunch of foundations in the middle of my base being either destroyed or damaged. When I checked the event log there was nothing under “Purge”, but under “Building System” it shows that a Living Magma and Living Mountain has been destroying foundations (and killing two animals).
The two gates to the only entrances to my base were completely unharmed, so it’s not like someone led them into my base. I guess someone with a base nearby had their purge spawn INSIDE of my base?
How can that possibly be a thing that can happen, it seems like a really obvious bug to fix??
This is super annoying as grinding stone is so extremely mind-numbingly boring, and a bunch of the foundations can’t even be replaced since the vault on top seems to have been placed “too low”?
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
Build base near someone else
2.Wait for them to have a purge
Although this has not happened to me (yet), I have seen this happen to other people.
Someone asks for help against and upcoming purge. Purge starts. And we watch the purge spawn on the neighbor’s roof. The purge then tears up the neighbor’s base in an effort to get out.
Been there done that.
We build on the top of plateaus, so our purges go to the nearest other structures.
We tell folks not to build by us, but do they listen? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo
On PvE servers now it is a battle tactic. The grievers build a small base as close to you as possible, then build a big base somewhere else, when the purge comes, it comes to smaller base, and you stuff gets attacked.
We now have walls all the way around our bases, just to prevent this. That ruined the 2 year landscape around us. All we see are walls now.
Yeah this is why long-time PvEers should always caution newer players against building too close to established clans. Purges will want to spawn at a distance from the site they’re actually targeting, and if there’s any player made structures in between them and their target, they won’t care who it belongs to.
Even running a private server, staying out of purge distance of established bases (preferably out of render distance) is among the few rules I have posted when a new player first joins.
Given that the resource-despawn radius of foundations is smaller than their land claim radius, you can try to run some foundations out from your walls, attempting to leave the outer-most blocks as low to the ground as possible (afterwards deleting those blocks you ran over to them) so as to expand your landclaim without totally trashing the scenery. While it won’t help quite as much against trolls that are intentionally griefing you, it will help to keep honest but naive newcomers at a far enough distance so that this can’t happen as easily.
