Not sure where I want to make my main base. Thoughts?

There is a nice mesa at I 7/8 on the border cliffs of the north/south right near “the pocket”.
Its central location would make getting anywhere on the map fairly quick.

I’ve thought of building there myself, but never have.
Maybe next time I move.

Another option to consider: Build in a lake or river. Creates a natural “moat” around your palace as long as you do not let foundations extend to shore. If the animation makes you swim (and not wade), you’re okay, Then make sure you have at least one, but only one, way to walk from the front of your palace door to shore. Build a large gatehouse at the shore. This will direct all Purge attempts to you and channel their aggression without endangering your expensive palace. If you feel particularly vulnerable even with all that, you can connect your gatehouse via a drawbridge, too. Or if more drastic, after a Purge starts, remove/destroy one foundation connecting to your main palace so its impossible for the AI to path into your main base.

Works well for all large bodies of water such as B8 (oasis), C9 (river’s end), E11 (snowy, ice lake), F9 (New Asagarth), G10 (snowy, ice lake again), H8 (might work - haven’t tried this one), and all along the South River and into the Jungle streams and Ocean.

When building out in the open, currently the Purge ‘can’ spawn on your roof if its flat with ceiling tiles. Always cover your roof with either roof pieces or ramps. The AI doesn’t like ramps. You can build a pyramid with ramps and be able to run all over your base without the AI being able to follow. You can place archers on those ramps, too, without them moving from their location (fixed defense points).

I have my base in B8, there’s a great spot on flat arid ground there above the oasis. It has several natural barriers and proximity to Sepermeru, Unnamed City, the brimstone pools and Mounds of the Dead!
Berserker raids also won’t reach down here, you’ll be just out of reach for them. :slightly_smiling_face:

Are you quite sure? I’m almost certain you’re in pretty much the same location as the clan on my server who got a 'zerker Purge recently.

That’s almost exactly where I have my Yamatai castle complex. The purges come from the north across the Rhino field. Even have a platform and small building up on the large sandstone tower that overlooks the black rhino field. Great views,

I hope so. So far I have only been raided by Scorpians, Locusts, and Treasure Hunters. I was hoping for some more variety. I can’t find for certain whether your base location limits what can raid you. I see a lot of information that it does and doesn’t.

According to the wiki map the berserkers only reach to the savannah above and their area ends just before the flat. And I’ve never had any raid from them so far, just the same as Subotai_Archer_Thief, ie. locusts, relic hunters and scorpions.

Your location and proximity to various factions does limit who raids your base. There’s a map on the wiki Purge-page that shows you the reach of every faction across the map.

One thing I would caution is that if you build an outpost near the Black Galleon, either don’t leave anything there that you care about, or fortify it heavily. The new Sobek cultist purge that occurs will chew through anything that isn’t T3 in just a few minutes. I’m speaking from personal experience here.

The areas I’ve been liking most are the southernmost area of the fertile highlands, C7, and the southwest section of the savannah in the middle of the map.
