Option "Always show health bars" is basically an in-built ESP hack

Soooo since I’m a stealth player…I hate them with a passion…but I hate all visible numerics of aggro npcs and others’ buildings. But this is where I’m trying to figure out…what is the benefit of this in a survival game? I mean come on we get thrown in a desert with just a loin cloth and we have to figure stuff out from there…so the visible health bar is completely counter to this theme. With that, I am very curious why this idea is still being held onto by the dev team and what is the vision or outcome of this. Hopefully it will be apparent when the tweaks come.

I use this now to see T4 early, ofc this should be off on PVP server but on in PVE, PVEC servers.

I apologize for the partial derail. But I want to add my two cents on the subject of stealth.

Before the combat up-date pre-launch there was a kind of stealth possible.

For the NPC’s it was that they had a “cone of perception” one could literally walk up behind a NPC and dagger them to death in one or two hits. Dagger was a one hand weapon back then btw.

This was a favorite tactic of mine when farming the den for Talitha Goldfingers.
It didn’t always work, but when it did it was awesome.

Against other players? well one had to be an Archer and needed to move so as the grunts and groans keep to a minimum. I used to follow enemy players by the sound they made. Then because arrows could be shot into the air and arc down onto a target, I used to kill other players from farther away than they could see me.

Was it true stealth? no. did it always work? no.
But it was in the game, and I enjoyed it. I would very much like to have stealth in the game.

Sorry for the de-rail.

A way to make the ShowHealthBars less damaging to PVP is make it so it only shows within combat range, and only npc’s and team mates. That shouldn’t effect PVE too terribly. And would remove some of the PVP issues.

I would love that stealth and on hiding is not a 100% science thing. it’s always been a % thing. I wouldn’t like a PVP stealth thing like skyrim has. It just wouldn’t work well and it would be the new meta.

I am in very firm agreement with SirDaveWolf here. The very minor quality of life benefit is negated by the loss of stealth, both player and at times base location, and the freely garnered intel on clan size which this feature provides. This feature has too many negative ramifications for PvP andshould be set to ‘off’ by default on official servers.

But that was almost one year ago - 8 months to be exact. :grimacing:
